Or just add a secondary radio comms system designed to be used with voice recognition software besides the current menu system. Context sensitive menus are great for keyboard but suck when used with voice recognition.

...but it's payware. Something built-in, integrated with the radio would be better.

Then TARS too should be implemented ;)

Of course, ED should do all this for free!

To use Voice Activation Commands you need to speak clerly so your computer can understand you! The easy test is to fire up Voice Recognition on Windows 7 and activate Anna and have a "talk" with her. If she don't want to speek to you then don't go buying VAC.

I think, that the best way to implement voice commands is not the "voice recognition" method, but ED should do it by assigning your own voice samples to commands in options/controls, the same way as you are assigning your joy buttons

This is the way how you can comunicate in your native language :smilewink:

I think ED should stay out of the voice command business; they have other, simulator-y things to do.

Being useful and being something that ED should expend significant time and resources on, are two very different things.

I haven't noticed a lot of automobile makers developing their own GPS units either. ;)

 Which is underrated in aviation anyways!

Especially for the guys here who fly real planes it is a good training to mumble less on the radio :D

What clues do you have, that the spend time will be significant? Compared to what?

But I do, even though they're educated-guess clues.

Time spend on making an American fixed wing jet is counted in years. And ED has more teams than one, as they wrote in last newsletter.

And there are teams working on a bunch of things. There are things that need to be done well before you get voice recognition, which right now can be provided by external applications - just IMHO of course.

ED should stay out of the Voice recognition software area and consentrate on the simulator. VAC and other software works great. Just keep the bindings for all menues. I would like if the menues showing up also would be an option to switch on/off.

My master degree in software engineering has a clue and fully agrees with GGs opinion. Doing voice recognition would be a total waste of assets for ED. There are products that will allways do a better job, because their business is based solely on making speech recognition.

There already are nice apps - VAC is nice example.

I'd more see 3D mission editor which was to be on the way:D

while you are trying to announciate the words, 'oh' crap!, fire anything and everything !' the telephone pole sized missles have traveled 5 miles...

btw, I tried that vac stuff many years ago with several flight sims...

in the 1990's and in the 2000's...

it is not as easy as you think to make it work, the more controls, the more commands... and you must 'train' the software to understand you...

VAC works together with the Database of the Windows Speech Recognition. You have to use the Train Function a few Times to get a good Result.

When you reinstall Windows you have to start from Zero again, because there is no build-in Backup Function.

I have searched for an Option to aviod that, and i found this here :

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16296

A simple-to-use Program to backup and restore your Windows Speech Recognition Profile. It works with Vista and Seven, and saves a lot of Work.

I thought this could be useful for other VAC Users too. :)
