awdrgyjo Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Can someone give me a definitive answer to this question: in the latest version of the sim can the TGP see through thick cloud in FLIR bhot/whot modes, mine cant, as ever, thanks in advance for a reply, cheers.
Jona33 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 No it can't. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
awdrgyjo Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 No it can't. Thanks mate, thats all I needed to know.
Nate--IRL-- Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Should it be able to? I know it can see through the normal clouds. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

JCamel Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I'll add a TGP question rather than starting a new thread. Does TGP serve any purpose in air-to-air mode? It doesn't seem to be able to SPI a target to the HUD in A-A mode and I therefore can't really see the point in it since you can lock the missiles just with the HUD. Sure you get a dot on the TGP indicating the target's 360deg orientation but no altitude as far as I can see. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.

JCamel Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Just realised you can actually use China Hat FWD Long to slave the AIM-9 seeker to the TGP track if TGP is SOI too. Amazing the stuff they miss out in the training sessions. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
Sceptre Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 No payload can see through clouds, and you can't lase through them either. That's when JDAMs come in very handy:) RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
FatSlapper Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 The TGP has always been able to see through full cloud cover! Since original beta. I was practicing with mark points, marking below cloud cover and then climbing above the deck to bomb "blind" and noticed the TGP could see through the full cloud cover (10). I think it was semi fixed at some point as now You have to zoom the TGP in all the way to see through the clouds. It was reported a long time ago....Just checked again for a pic and naro mode is all Ya need....
FatSlapper Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Its not supposed to be synthetic aperture radar, the kind that can see through clouds.

AlphaOneSix Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Synthetic Aperture Radar can see through clouds just fine. Already in use on many ISR platforms.
Dejjvid Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 IR through water still has some limitations... ;) And about the laser, I think the clouds (water drops) "bend" the laser as it does with the "normal" light. So GPS or INS guided munitions is your best bet. And a JTAC on the ground to give you the coords. Sceptre Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 That's when you need a snake eater on the ground with a SOFLAM hooked up to a DAGR. Lots of interesting things get done that way. This will be fun in multiplayer when CA is released:) RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
