maddabboyahoo.com Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 WAGS do you think an Oculus Rift SDK Setup pinned thread would be useful? I think more and more people will be getting them.
maddabboyahoo.com Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I just purchased tridef and vorpx to use. Side note Tridef does an excellent job of creating 3d movies from normal movies if you have red blue glasses or a nice 3d monitor. Works awesome on asus 3d monitor with Nvidia. I wish the movie theater demo for oculus used a similar technique. -michael

Flim Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Nice you got it quickly! I would try lunar flight, heli island, and Anterworld outerra demo to give you an idea of what the mig feels like in 3d. Make sure the firmware is updated to the latest 18. The warthog throttle is funky in Outerra, so use a simple profile to make it work correctly... Btw, I'm pretty excited this is moving forward and can't wait until Dk2! Edited October 28, 2013 by Flim
maddabboyahoo.com Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Some of us a few months back (June-ish) had it working with a tracking plugin, and alot of tweakin, not sure if it's in this thread or another one. We had a small issue w/ Zoom and 3d (Perception between left and right eye). https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=1790 vorpx has a nice little utility to set things up and it links to the oculus setup. I don't see firmware listed in the oculus setup. Though it has a magnetic calibration tool so hopefully that will help with my drift. How can I check firmware and update it? Thanks
Flim Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Use the calibration utility - tools- update firmware- select firmware from the sdk folder when it pops up.
ED Team Wags Posted October 29, 2013 ED Team Posted October 29, 2013 I ordered this too to make it easier to switch between my 2560x1600 monitor and the Rift. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817399097 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/wagmatt Twitch: wagmatt System: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3729544#post3729544
maddabboyahoo.com Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I like monoprice's stuff. Ive been using their stuff for years. I prefer HDMI switches for most things and when I use DVI I convert it at then end of an hdmi cable. The HDMI cables are must smaller and lighter allowing the switches to be smaller. They work seamlessly with DVI. http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011310&p_id=8155&seq=1&format=2 You'd have to make sure to get a unit like you got that would support dual-link. At this point I'm keeping my asus monitor on and cloning with NVidia to the rift. I haven't got anything setup to the point where I can read the menus in game in rift so keeping the other monitor on is easier and I'm getting awesome performance with it. I can't see the other monitor in fact I keep the room lights on and don't notice in rift. I haven't touched the brightness or contrast controls and its fine.
maddabboyahoo.com Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Thanks this worked great and the new calibration for the new firmware is more detailed. Now I only wish that each thing used the latest sdk release. Vorpx still sees It's own oculus config version it came with. Tridef doesn't let you mess with it. Vorpx looks very promising. I did a quick test in warbirds and the resolution was MUCH better than native. It will need lots of tweaking but I'm sure that's just how DCS would work with it. I'll need to set back up for mouse looking. Thanks!
SkateZilla Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Same, I just Disable my Eyefinity array, Drop to Center Screen only, Activate my Oculus Preset, which is cloned outputs to center screen and the rift unit. it's not as complicated as it sounds, but I run 3-6 screens at any given time now. Since I Shipped my rift away, I'll prolly look into getting another one in a month or so. SkateZilla Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I would wait for Dk2... I know, Sponsor would be paying for it regardless. woodsman Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Look what came in the mail today :) No problem seeing the keyboard through the bottom vent. Awesome. I know it will impress despite the obvious shortcomings with the DK1. Wags, please share your first impressions with us about the OR in general and simming with it, DCS or otherwise.
woodsman Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 See Oculus Support thread. Wags just got his DK1 today and I hope we hear what he has to say soon.
ED Team Wags Posted October 29, 2013 ED Team Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) Some VERY early observations: 1- Having a higher res will be a must for DCS. HUD and other displays would be unreadable. 2- Head tracking latency needs to be improved. 3- Particularly with War Thunder, I got nausea after less than a minute. However, once I calibrated my IPD, it was better. Once I started to get used to it, it was a very good experience and certainly the closest I've ever felt to flying while not in an actual aircraft. 4- Tried HL2 and will be pretty amazing one the res in increased. Once the res and head tracking latency are improved, I think I will be using this quite a lot! hannibal Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) i was able to try the rift also over the weekend, half life looks amazing, but i got a headache when strafing right and left. i was dissappointed i didnt get to try warthunder, the host didnt have that installed. i did try strike suit zero...kinda lame experience for me. titans of space didnt do it for me either, the planets scale was small for me, but it was cool when planets passed by you, the rollercoaster demo was cool. resolution was bad, but the depth was amazing.. to look down and around... the scale could have been better, but that demo did turn my stomach over still the 3d effects are amazing, the half life 2 environment is simply amazing. at the moment i am building gaming seats, my dream is to use it with oculus rift, and DCS Cobra AH-1G... THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I HAVE HEARD, THAT WAGS IS USING THE RIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DwoaC Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I am so relieved you have the rift in hand and can already see the possibilities and the limitations. I know prudence says there is little to gain from patching in support but the press alone, and coupled with dcs ww2, makes it worth your while. Plus and this is the most important point I can't wait:) Really is great news. Thank you Matt. Please share more it's very entertaining.

The only thing i am afraid of is that i use glasses, i have myopia. So i am afraid of getting it worse. I preffer to have better eyes than better immersion.
