During ramp start I am having a problem with the APU.

I have created mission in mission editor with multiple entities.

Upon entering the mission my A-10 cockpit loads as normal and

I run the start up procedures just as I was taught in the training lesson.

Here is what happens.

Turn on battery. Up. Check.

Inverter on. Up. Check.

Check Signal lights warning panel and audible alarm. Check.

Check fuel. Check.

Oxygen on. Check.

O2 flow. Check.

Left and Right. Wing/main boost on, up. Check.

Flip APU to start. Up. Check.

Monitor APU and it doesn't go above 40, like it does in training

Mission or any other time I have started it before.

Turn APU gen on. Up. Check. Still not going above 40%

APU audible alarm and warning light on caution light panels do not extinguish.

Is this a problem with the flight in the mission editor?

I have since went back and made a detailed list of te training flight to do's

And still not have been able to start the APU correctly.

Thanks.

The only way (that I'm aware of at least) that can happen is if you're totally out of fuel. If that's the case, the APU will spin up to ~30% and never get any further.

If you post a track people can help troubleshoot some more.

@dethmagnetic- my plane is full of fuel. I thought of that as well and made sure it's at 100% fuel

before I load the mission.

@joey45- engines won't start at all.

I even made sure that I don't have any keypress issues with my joystick profile before I load the mission as that could create a problem as well.

the only thing I can think to do is create a new mission and try to see if I get the same issue. Problem is creating a new mission doesn't really solve this issue unless it's just a bug in my mission file.

How do I post a track?

if your apu is not going above 40 precent. make sure you have your throtal levers behind the gate. if they are above the gate in the idle position then the start valve is open and its trying to feed bleed air off into the air start for the engine. thus not being able to start the APU.

I have a X52. Throttle is all the way down. I even assigned the engine off command to a button on my joystick for each engine. This doesnt work either.

Ok here is the mission track. I was trying to create a good training mission for myself. One that would give me the chance to air refuel, deliver guided/unguided bombs/mavs on tgt, perform ramp start and basic navigation. Im still new to this. Any help figuring out what I am doing wrong during the start up would be helpful.

I'll take a look now.

Solution: fill her up! ;)

Your tanks are empty. Now, since you were sure you were at 100% fuel (which isn't advisable, due to weight), you've either made a mission editor mistake or uncovered a bug. You should attach the mission .miz file.

Ok. Found 2 new issues trying to figure this one out on my own.

APU issue. I just uploaded the .miz file. I checked, sure enough my fuel is not empty before mission start. Take a look and see what you think.

2nd. I created a new mission. No problem starting up in this one, however I can not turn the Laste to arm (switch next to RWR to Nrm under throttle). What enables me to flip that switch to arm?

3rd. Back in the Training mission I uploaded there are 2 F-16's on the ramp. The awacs and the tanker do not taxi pass them. It also appears they shutdown, or do not start up for the mission.

I haven't found a VFS to fly with yet. I keep running into Viper pilot squadrons and im not flying f4.0 atm. Any leads on a good A-10C Squadron?

Thanks for all the help.

I'll have a look at the mission.

To arm the EAC, you need to have the EGI system aligned. Do you know how that procedure goes?

Regarding the 16s on the ramp -- if you've placed them there as parked, that's just what they'll be. I'll take a look.

About finding someone to fly with, have a look in the multiplayer forum section.

EDIT: The F-16's should be in the process of starting up, then. Once they're done, they'll probably taxi out ahead of the tanker, who can then follow. Bue, the taxi logic is a bit fuzzy and breaks easily. If you want to keep the general mission structure, just move the F-16s so that they don't confuse the 135 pilot. :)

EDIT 2: Might as well explain the EAC (stabilisation system/autopilot) thing. First you need to align the EGI (inertial/gps nav system). This will start automatically when you power up the CDU (computer). You can't move the aircraft during the alignment. This will take 4 mins. The current time is displayed on the cdu alignment page. When you get the T = 4.0 0.8 message, and alignment complete flashing, press the MFCD button corresponding to *NAV, and then select EGI as the navigation source on the centre console, just below the HSI. When all of this is done, you can engage the EAC.

I guess I have been rushing thru the start up to fast. Thanks.

Any Idea on those F-16's or the APU?

The f-16's sound like they are on at the begining and then they shut off. Some sort of timing issue. Their routes are depicted but they never start up and taxi for departure.

Finally, regarding the fuel: The airfield was set to carry 100 tons of fuel. When I set this to unlimited, it worked. I suppose the other aircraft took all your fuel! That also explained the F-16 issue: with unlimited airfield fuel stores, all flights successfully took off.

That is very interesting. 100 tons of fuel sure sounds like a lot to me though.

Well, keep in mind he had AWACS and a tanker sharing that as well.

It really isn't. 100 tons is only just enough to fill 20 A-10Cs, around 180,000 litres.

To put that into perspective, most RAF bases have 3 or 4 bulk fuel installations, with each BFI having 2 tanks and each tank holding up to 1 million litres of fuel. And some bases hold even more than that. There can be more than 180,000 litres just in the piping systems.
