Hello everyone,

I'm planning to make a short DCS World video, however the camera controls available are too standard, just rotating around planes and moving the camera itself closer or farther from the plane or other objects won't give me what I need to record some nice scenes, apart from the fly-by and chase cameras. I've played with all the available keyboard commands but I still can't get certain things done.

Is it possible to simply "zoom in or out" the external cameras? By zooming I mean an actual zoom, not just moving the camera towards the plane and having everything distorted, such as a huge F-15 nose in front of you and tiny little wings on the back. :noexpression:

Is it possible to "pan" the camera ( not sure if this is the correct definition of what I want to do ), like smoothly sliding the camera left or right without keeping the look-at point centered at the center of the plane's airframe?

Here are a few examples showing what I want do exactly, this video was recorded in Lock On, in between these marks the camera is smoothly panning to the side while you see the planes, but the look-at point is clearly not aimed at the planes:

02:30 to 02:55

04:15 to 04:20

04:40 to 04:50

If anybody knows how to zoom in and do these moves please tell me :)

Thanks in advance

"02:30 to 02:55"

For this shot, im assuming there is a third plane, acting as the "camera man", simply moving forward slowly. And the camera is probably the normal F2 view, "unlocked" with ALT-F2 to look the other direction (towards the A-10's), and then zoomed in.

This is basically the trick for many possible camera angles, to attach the camera to some other unit which is moving. Just have to plan it out in most cases, while in other cases you just end up getting a lucky shot. :)

2:30 could also be done in post production.

The zoom level suggests that the creator cropped the video, then used keyframes to pan around the shot. Sounds more complicated than it really is.

RIGHT Control Button And * and / control Zoom, as in when you zoom in it closes the FoV Too (like a real Camera)

So

RCTRL+* Zoom IN/Close FOV

RCTRL+/ Zoom Out/ Open FoV

Period (". DEL") Button Controls Locking Camera on Object:

which gets you this:

If you watch carefully, you can tell that wasn't done. The orientation and depth of objects in the frame and background are different as the camera moves.

Speaking of filming things for machinima purposes. Is it possible to fly inside the cockpit, yet hide the cockpit to give you a nice way to use a TrackIR to aim your camera, without having to worry about the cockpit blocking your view?
