My guess is yes, because it's incredibly annoying having to grab the mouse constantly , however,

Can i control mouselook with a button on a flight stick ?

And, is that comparable to Track-IR ?

Isn't Track-IR taxing on your eyeballs ? (uncomortable)

Track ir 4, or 5 ? I hear 5 is smoother, how much difference does it make ?

Does everybody use Track-ir and a flight stick ?

I personally don't own TrackIR but I do plan on getting one soon. It is possible to control mouselook with hats on flight stick, it is even possible to map controlling mouse cursor on your HOTAS, but both of them are quite annoying. That's why I plan on getting one. :)

Yes you do need it, simple as that. Once you get used to it it will be the best thing you have ever bought for your pc. I have a tir4 that works perfectly well. I've never tried the tir5 so can't make a comparison.

If i remember correctly, in another post you wrote that you where an oldtimer when it came down to flightsims.

What do you use, mouse and a keyboard? That's for FPS games.

If the cost of TrackIR is a bit too much (it is for me, among other issues I have with the company), you can always look into Freetrack, you would be surprised how easy it is to set up and it makes for a fun and rather rewarding weekend project.

I would link it but I am not sure of the official policy on Freetrack on this forum, I know how that topic tends to go on flight sim forums...

Well as far as I know ED changed it's policy for Freetrack a while back and even integretes it's native API into DCS so it should be ok to post Freetrack links. I do own a trackIR (wich I bought second hand incedently) but I also have a few issues with natural point monopoly policies, if only trackIR didn't work so much better for me than I was ever able to get freetrack too.... No way I would ever had owned one I tell you. But purely speaking of the piece of kit... It's great, out of the box great. Can't even compare using hats or mouse to this.

Freetrack user here! IMHO, headtracking is on par with a joystick as far as the "must have to fly" list. Yes, you can play without, but that's like flying with a keyboard.

A few minutes of reading should give you an idea.

Every point on that blog is nothing but Freeloaders whining, respectfully, they have cause for some of those arguments.

Natural Point has the right to restrict other developers from using their interface or including their DLLs and Link to their interface inside their software, emulation or not.

They shouldn't restrict Signed Developers from Including other Interfaces though.

Do you need Track IR?

Yes, you definitely do need a head tracking capability if you're serious about DCSW or any other simulator, be it flight, driving or whatever.

If you like to DIY, you can get away with free head tracking offerings, but if you can afford it, get the real deal.

I have had a TrackIR for a while now and if it broke, I wouldn't fly again untill I got a new one or fixed it. I've had TrackIR 2,4 and 5. I did notice a difference between the 4 and 5.

SkateZilla I really don't want to further this much as it's off topic but:

I agree, at least to a certain degree, but it's been a little hard at times because:

They shouldn't restrict Signed Developers from Including other Interfaces though.

What they do is as ilegal as using a couple lines of very simple code.

In the states it's called Anti-Trust. Not to mention moraly wrong, sadly they most likely would not need to resort to such tactics as they have a great product and were first on the market. Also going after the DIY guys is just ridiculous. Basicaly they have a monopoly and want to keep it. It's preaty much a given that you can't get without headtracking in Flight Sims this days. Who wouldn't want to be in charge of the only company that was able to manufacture Joystick/Hotas? It's a Hard market because it's a niche market, but in the end I belive Healthy competition serves everyone the best (except the people who were hoping on a monopoly of course).

Man this is going to take some time to get used to .

It feels good sofar though

I never realized how much my head was moving during "staring" at my screen . :joystick:

I resisted getting TrackIR for a long time but I bit the bullet and bought it last week. Man it was like a revelation. I'm still getting used but it's so much easier looking around in the cockpit. It's weird because whenever I see a picture of a cockpit of a flightsim now, I want to move my head and look around.
