metalnwood Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Hmm, thats a fair bit over 10K USD for the two side consoles. Not sure what it will cost for the center but I am not convinced you are hitting the mark of low cost for everyone ;) I would also query the no warranty and only a one month warranty on anything this cost. 1
Mr_Burns Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Frank you cant sell stuff with one month Warranty, if you dont have the confidence in your development and subsequent production to only offer 1 month it concerns me. I am sure the PCB, Switches and Joysick boards you are buying carry 12 months warranty, for an outlay of $5k a buyer would expect customer service beyond 1 month. But you know that right?
BOS Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Give the man a break! He has shared the development of his harware with us, and been under considerably pressure to state a price or even deliver before he was ready. That means that the hardware and software haven't been tested proberly. The way I see it, 1 month warranty isn't much but then again; it means that he garantees that his stuff works. The problem is the end users and their hardware/software - you all knew how each of us customize our computers and hardware. You could very easy experience problems not related to Fransk stuff. Keep up the good work Frank.
frank Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 SORRY guys - i EDIT the post to 12 month.... ofcourse... Thanks for correcting ;) http://www.dcscockpit.com
Gremlin77 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 wow, that are prices.... Keep my fingers crossed that you find enough customers that are able to pay this amount of money. I follow your thread for several months now, and am very impressed of your work. So I hope you didn't set the price level too high. Just think about everybody can by a CNC laser for the price of one console side.... But I think your project is targeting to customers who want to buy a running system. So, it's fine for these kind of customers. But in my opinion you missed the "system for anybody without technical background for a good amount of money". If you've read my thread, you know that I bought a whole Tornado pit and made the panels and interfaces myself. When I calculate the material costs, development-time, machine-time, partitial machine-costs, electronics, time for software-development etc. a "normal" panel like fuel panel would be at about a maximum of 100 to 120 €. Okay, I know you need some money if you want to set up a business with these kind of things, but you're a bit high in prices in my opinion. But, never the less, I hope you get your business started an I wish you luck finding lot of customers. So, go on, still love your thread! visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916

Keep up the good work Frank. I really don't want to continue this line of conversation but you said it and Frank endorsed it a couple replies later. Firstly, any price Frank sets is OK. No one here knows Franks actual costs except Frank and for all we know his mark ups are limited given the time investment he may need to put in. All I am saying is that a ferw times he has very clearly said he is doing something affordable for everyone and has made compromises to reach that goal. I was thinking costs along the lines of goflight or similar. Not cheap but ok for an enthusiast. So, I dont query the legitimacy of the costs, just how they relate to 'an affordable cosckpit for everybody'
agrasyuk Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 ... That means that the hardware and software haven't been tested proberly. The way I see it, 1 month warranty isn't much but then again; it means that he garantees that his stuff works. ... switches, buttons, phidget led boards , a joystick boards of choice are all of the shelf products. no software beyond community one is used. so the warranty is really only covers proper connection of all the components above. i'd say the warranty terms whatever they end up being are not the most questionable thing here. 1 Anton. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Wow amazing work, its all out of my price range but I'm amazed at the effort put into the project. Hope you find some customers to get behind your products! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
0414 Wee Neal Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Hi Frank, great work. Unfortunately its outside my budget, certainly if I can't buy modules, which would help spread the costs. For a casual user who has to balance family finances against hobby its a big ask, if you could look at a flexible modular purchasing this would help offset the overall costs? Just my thoughts, which don't detract at all from the great work you have done. X93355 Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Wow - building a realistic simpit is expensive and unfortunately those USD prices converted to NZD prices is a small car here. I hope you get some orders Frank because you have done a great deal of work and the front panel looks real smart.
