No, the 2.4 patch can come any time.

64 bits only will come in the next few months.

You must see them as two sperate things, totally unrelated to each other.

For example, 64 bits might be included in .2.5 but maybe it will be .2.9?

Or even 3.x ???

There is also this from earlier in this thread.

Can we still play with 32bit with this update 1.2.4?

A. c0ff already stated 32-Bit is still in this patch.

B. The Statement that 1.2.4 will be 64 Bit only does not Specify which Build of 1.2.4.

As Each build number is usually 1.2.4.xxxxx, where x=build number

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

OK my bad then. Sorry for disinformation guys :)

Not a problem. There is so much floating around here that it is easy to get things misconstrued.

This is from a thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=103099

"With version 1.2.3 now available, work is underway on version 1.2.4. The primary focus of this next version will be:

1 - Further improvements to network play and stability

2 - Coincide with the release of DCS: UH-1 Huey

3 - Improvements to air-to-air missile performance

4 - Changes and adjustments to beyond visual range combat systems

5 - Further GUI improvements

Moving to 64-bit Operating Systems Only"

So the answer is no. It will only be for 64bit

I personally assumed the 64-bit statement was totally seperate from the 1.2.4 details due to the fact it is was in bold and further down the page to highlight the very fact this was only something they will do in the future, but are starting to consider seriously.

It obviously won't be 1.2.4, but for me it can't come soon enough as it means more potential for a better looking game, not to mention the loss of the dead weight that is 32 bit support meaning the game can be better optimised for 64 bit performance.

I made it bold, just to show what I was trying to show in that post

We are considering dropping the support for 2 things:

1) Windows XP

This will happen pretty soon, mostly because Win8 MSSDK does not support WinXP.

2) 32-bit

This is a tough one. There're valid use cases for it (old laptops, or OEM Win7), but DCS just can't nicely fit into 32-bit address space without complex trickery, that is not worth it.

However, the soon-to-be-out 1.2.4 build still supports both.

My bad.... Just getting old..

... Might of been Win 3.11 then..

EDIT: (5 years Mainstream Support and 5 years Extended Support)

Edited by joey45

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Actually, 3 things:

XP and 32 bit mode are both outdated technology. Game mode is there to widen the user base, and allow scalable entry into the DCS.world.

As such I'd have thought the additional coding was still worth the effort.

( Reading your post was an interesting illustration of how easy it is to jump to unbased conclusions.

My first reaction - with no reason - was that your objection to having game mode was that it let 'light-weights' into a 'hard core sim' - which would be rediculous, because how does it hurt 'simmer' if there are 'gamers' playing somewhere else in the world (?). It took me a little while ot get to you might reasonable be worried about the additional coding effort needed to support it)

Cheers.
