True but here in the UK I have never paid FedEx any customs charges the reason is they are trying to avoid paying it themselves as confirmed by my accountant as their invoice reads Payment for administration and handling not Customs and Revenue collection which my accountant challenged them on at which point they waved the charges on 3 occasions strange that.

Damn it's being sent by FedEx, that is not good. I have only ever been hit BY custom charges if they come from FedEx. I will say that I will be pissed if I get hit by custom charges if I could ave got it from Amazon cheaper.

Not impressed that I've been charged $92.98 which is at least £10 more expensive than if I just pre ordered from Amazon. I've sent an email to Leap motion stating that fact.

Thinking it will be going straight back for a full refund as I don't like paying more than others. Not a good way to look after your supporters.

Touchbuddy/Helios/Surround support?

My mind is boggling with the possibilities of combining TouchBuddy/A10-Server/Helios and TrackIR with a multi-screen experience even without the Rift, Nvidia Surround is giving me 5760*1200 views on my 3 main screens.. too bad there isn't a 64-bit version of SoftTH.

As soon as I see you guys are using it, I'm gonna have to visit Amazon myself.

Don't quote me on the FedEx part but I did see a FedEx banner on their site so just assuming that is who they would be using.

But charging up front for the Customs and Excise duty is not allowed, the product has to enter the bonded warehouse first and is then checked by customs as to whether or not Customs and Excise duty applies.

I just checked my invoice from Leap and they have indicated a pre-charge for they call it tax but again its not its Customs and Excise duty so I will be cancelling that and advising them that this is not allowed hence my cancellation.

FedEx are playing a dangerous game with Her Majesty's Customs officers almost as dangerous as Starbucks and they got caught and had to pay up.

Sorry you got an Invoice from leap.

All I got was an email stating its shipped. Before that was just an email asking me to confirm details. Mmmmmm strange. I've had nothing regarding charges or tax etc. just the initial pre order stating it will be $92.28

You just made my evening. Thank you!

Apparently, I've been under a rock since switching to Nvidia Surround; SoftTH has been in my toolkit since the first LockOn, but I guess I just got lazy.

Now, let's hope our favorite software author and sometimes visitor to this forum has several of these on order!

CNet reviews Leap Motion Controller

Here's a brand new CNet review of the Leap Motion Controller.

The good: The Leap Motion Controller is a Kinect-like input device for Macs and Windows PCs. It has impressive 3D spatial tracking and already has dozens of compatible apps. It costs under $80.

The bad: It only works with compatible apps; not as intuitive or reliable as using a touch pad, touch screen, or mouse for everyday tasks; your arms will get tired when using it.

The bottom line: Leap Motion's Kinect-like PC motion controller has its moments of magic, but right now it's more toy than productivity tool.

I am hoping it will do simple mouse emulation, I am not so worried about using Apps.

fingers crossed for out of the box mouse emulation and compatability with DCS

Leap Motion and DCS World

Hi all,

Leap Motion

Leap Motion was released yesterday and I feel this device could become a gamechanger for us in flight simulations. Imagine yourself in your clickable cockpit, moving your cursor over the screen with hand movements instead of using a mouse, flicking switches, turning knobs, rotating handles with natural gestures, going through your startup sequence that way, using both hands as required and as you would in a real cockpit, and doing just the same in all other phases of flight.

No more mouse, no more fumbling on the keyboard for aircraft functions, you'd just do as you would in your cockpit, with the exception of primary flight controls and throttle/prop control, which I believe should remain bound to physical devices.

The big question is what level of support/integration by a software developer will be required, so that it will be possible to 'teach' Leap Motion the gestures you wish to use and make them function as desired in the simulation.

I'm excited! Please discuss!

Got mine today, have just played with the basic apps it comes with, so far pretty disappointing (no pun intended).

Going to have to figure out how to calibrate it as my cursor leaps around and has no precision.

Will try it out latter with helios etc, fingers crossed it is basic user error :)

First we should ditch those semi-arcade modules without a clickable cockpit.. then we can imagine to implement this with some profit.

Oh, just noticed the other discussion there too. Not sure if you'd agree, but to me this thing seems bigger than just another new input device being discussed in the subforum, I leave it to the mods to decide the fate of this thread...

By the way, just ordered one from amazon.co.uk, delivery after the 29th!

Same for me ordered from Amazon UK delivery after 29th

It does have more potential than just another input design, but I think it would take a lot of work to integrate it into DCS ( using it to actually move a pilots arms for example )

I will be happy with mouse emulation for now :)

Nevermind, google says that's not true.

(functionality is another thing entirely).

Uhm, what!? This has no mouse emulation?

Would be amazing if there was that kind of integration sometime in the future. I'd imagine it pretty ideal if you could just see 'your' computerized hands, as in the video at the very end, flying around the cockpit, grabing a lever, moving it, turning a knob, etc., matching your every move in real time!

But looking forward to mouse emulation as well, for a start :)

It looks like an interesting novelty but I can't see this being any more than that.

The main problem I can see is that after a minute or so your arms get tired, its not very ergonomic. Really other than the cool factor I can't see any advantage to controlling your PC that way and it'd take some serious integration to get this woking in game/sims.

I agree it does look cool though and my finger has been hovering over the buy button on Amazon...

Well it depends on the application. I also don't see this as a complete keyboard/mouse replacement to control everything on the PC. But it's certainly not too much to ask to raise your left arm slightly to move the gear lever up when you need to, or your right arm to rotate the canopy handle in order to close it (on the Mustang). Same as in cockpit...

How's the hovering going (I see what you did there :) )?
