Hey guys, looking at the Leap Motion got me thinking, if we can get a similar result for cockpit interaction with just a simple touch pad, using it with your left arm?

Have anyone tried that?

I think you will find that a left handed mouse will be a better solution.

Already tried that. I'm a left-handed guy and really hate to use a mouse with my left hand. I think with a pad it will fill more natural to press buttons in the cockpit.

It's going to be very interesting what is possible out of the box in DCS with the new Leap Motion. Counting on some kind of mouse emulation for a start, but could imagine deeper and better intergration such as animation of one's computerized hands in real-time (wearing flight gloves) in the future!

Hopefully this device is going to get the devs' attention!

Mine will arrive on Monday must be on the slow boat from the States idiots why didn't they put on an overnight or even give me that option when I placed the order.

Oh well, mine only after the 29th, when it starts shipping from the UK. But it must have been more than 1.5 years since I first heard of Leap, so a few days more won't make much of a difference to me ;)

Feed back dudes..... like.... yesterday!

This "Leap" would be amazing if it could allow switches and dials to be changed with accuracy.

Could be on par with Track IR as the most awesome flight sim accessory.... possibly.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

I wonder if the pro clip will interfere with it? Leap works off of IR tracking, will 3 bright dots mess it up?

Ah that concerns me well if it don't work I'll just give it to the misses for her Facebook games.

I got my Leap motion unit and it's pretty impressive. Nice to see a few updates for it already and the SDK is well documented. Really want this working together with the Rift and DCS.

The more I think about it I can imagine this working well with the rift.

Move your hands to operate a clickable cockpit, it'd get round the problem of not being able to see the keyboard with the VR goggles on. You pretty much wouldn't need to use the keyboard for clickable cockpit sims.

That's if it can be made to work like that in the future of course.

I cancelled my order after concerns about precision and working with DCS, I want to see one working with DCS before I think about committing to it.

So for you guys that went ahead with the order, thank you for being braver than me :)

I look forward to your reviews, I really wanted this to work as a companion for the oculus !

Ok so how did I get on. Lets just say its packed back up in its box.

The calibration wouldn't work right, so was unable to calibrate

It was complaining of too much light when it was in a darkened room and the only light was coming from monitors.

I can still see the potential, BUT the drivers need serious work and the current program's are pretty much a waste of time.

I will try and set it up again next week. But it certainly doesn't like my setup of quad monitors that's for sure.

Pretty disappointed at the mo, but it was a leap of faith for me. ;)

Expecting my Leap to arrive today, but from what I've read so far it won't do out of the box what I'd like it to do.

The answer may be GameWave, should come to the Leap 'Airspace Store' soon: https://forums.leapmotion.com/showthread.php?2676-Customizing-leapmotion-gestures-for-gaming/page13

Not sure though how Leap would fare with a multi monitor setup, depends on its range I guess.

That is needed i'm using the windows touch app at the mo and although it works to some degree its a bit hit and miss I can flick switches and push buttons but twisting dial is difficult plus it takes an uber amount of steadiness in your arm and head to hold position for long enough to activate said switch.

Got mine just a few hours ago, so far only experimented with the free apps on the Mac platform.

I really like it, it's a great new technology and this will become really useful in many areas in the future. However, as with most new things, there are definitely teething problems which I believe will be sorted.

Some of the apps show the potential, such as the 'Molecules' app, where you can move complex 3D molecule structures freely around with your hands. Feels amazing, natural and immersive. Others I'm not so convinced of, the ones that use finger/handmotions to steer an object on the screen. This can be done better on a touchscreen, with a mouse or game controller in a desktop environment. The idea seems more promising for console gaming and that's not the environment Leap is designed for.

But for us here in a flight simulation environment, I think it will be amazing. Once GameWave is out in a couple of weeks, it will allow to emulate all we do now in the clickable cockpit with a mouse with the Leap and hand gestures. Initially these will not be customisable, but I believe it won't take long and they will be. So when you want to turn a knob, you'll direct your cursor to the knob with your hand and then make a movement as if you would turn a knob - knob turns! And so on.

I'm excited about this.

So far it's a bit of a disappointment. The biggest drawback I can see is that you can't calibrate hand position relative to the screen edges. So I find tiny hand movement covers your whole screen. I find all apps are uncontrollable because it's way too sensitive to hand motion. If I could calibrate my screen edges relative to hand position it would be much more natural to use. Point to the top right with my hand and the leap is in that area right now there is no relation between hand position and screen position.

Early demo of GameWave. Notice how smooth mouse control is. Gives me good reason to believe this will work well in the clickable cockpit. And this is just the beginning.
