hello guys...though im pretty confident in flying the p51, i have yet to discover some basic elements just like comms in the p51.

all i know about it is, that the radio is on the right hand side in the pit:)

can anybody enlighten me on how to use it correctly?

i saw that there are buttons, probably presets, ranging from A to D i think, but so far, i got no answers from atc.

ok, partly answered my question myself...

i saw that in the mission editor one can change the frequenzy for the preset buttons A-D.so this way it works and i successfully called the atc.

but it seems not to be possible to change frequenzy while piloting the plane...

how is/was it done in RL?how do/did they tune the frequenzy with this kind of radio?

it seems that during a mission you are restricted to 4different frequenzies, each for one button.so in theory i could only fly and land safely to 4different airports/airfields during a mission(and of course, only the ones which have the same frequenzy i set prior to the mission in the editor)

As far as I know they had the four frequencies and that was it.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Actually, I'm going to put that on the wish list. Since the Mustang is used nowadays in the airshow circuit, it would be great to have a modern replacement for the whatever-is-called 4 frequencies radio.

Plus a handheld GPS mounted on the panel or on the kneeboard.

It could be selected in the same way as the "civilian" option removes the guns in the ME.

I think these options linked to civil mode would be good as some of us don't do the fighting bit in this plane anyway.

I think ED should place a frequency changer and a GPS into the non-combat, civic version.

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

As the currently modeled plane was equipped with the SCR-552-A command radio, it's only fair to keep it like that.

And to be honest, 4 channels are more than enough per mission.

Departure airport, destination airport, wingman (flight), and another one as you desire or at mission requirement.

Later planes were equipped with the AN/ARC-3 command radio, allowing 8 predefined frequencies.

What would be fair though is to be able to let the ground crew, on friendly airfields, change frequencies.

That could be implemented much like the current rearming menu.

Just my oppinion.

That would be pretty cool to use the Civilian option in the ME to change between a modern P-51 with a GPS and more advanced radio and a lean mean WW2 fighter. She's a timeless bird and although I prefer the vintage configuration, using a four frequency radio in a modern environment is a bit silly. Can we have 150 octane for the WW2 variant? :)

I think ED should include in the weapons selection menu the option to configure radio freq's for the P-51.

This would allow one to adjust radios in-game as the need arises, without sacrificing realism. One could only change Freq's on the ground and would save some pilots a lot of troubles due to in-experienced mission designers.

These frequencies are crystal controlled and, therefore, cannot be adjusted in flight.

Before any mission the radio techies would plug in the required frequency crystals.

This AFAIK was the balls up on Eagle Day for the Germans, when many squadrons did not get/receive the signal regarding frequency changes and the techies installed the wrong crystals... thus an ensuing comms miss-cordination added to the failure of that day.

^^ Market Garden.

Leave the warbird alone. The Civvie version with the modern radio and GPS maybe cos this doesn't have the option to have weapons.

EDIT: but saying that it might mean they would have to redo some of the cockpit and have to separate cockpits in the file/game.

adding stuff

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
