Temp/dew point spread has a big influence on how much temperature difference is needed to create visible water vapor. That's all a vortice is. At altitude, there are some days where the vortices lasts as long as the contrails. If you are close enough you can watch them spin and twist like a wounded snake. It's quite cool.

Would this nice graphic add be modeled with such calculation on our PC?

I'd be astonished.

I would like to know what luither is going to say on the 1st Sep 2013. ED cannot get screen shots of Edge Nevada because the engine isn't in place, so I'm not sure how he is going to turn up with screens shots when he says the map is based on Edge.

Who says he will have screenshots of a fully functioning product in Sept? I think Sept 1st will be announcing his official plans, if he plans to do planes close to the level of the P-51D module it will be some time before you see much of anything. Also, if the Nevada map is nearly complete like we have been told, what is to say other maps cant be built while EDGE is still a WIP? Dosent mean it will be ready for screenshots... but lets not get disappointed before he even has a chance to pitch his plans to us ;)

Concerning the wingtip vortices, is it just a visual effect or is it actually physically modeled/calculated.

If so, this can introduce the 'wash' effects for crossing aircraft too.

I posted a question some weeks ago...

Let me find it...

Yeah, that one:

Right. The current prop-wash affect the generating aircraft itself but I don't think it affect the surrounding (in the crossing trajectory of course) aircraft.

I don't talk about the visual effect in/over clouds but the physical effect: when me, in my A-10c / P-51d / whatever... I cross the wash of another aircraft, it could be fine to have the shake, the dynamic effect. Maybe a question for the specialists of the atmosphere (air) model.

And the answer was:

It's not that hard to do but it requires certain programmer's manpower. It's in our plans though and the materials are awaiting Lancelot to convert formulas to concrete code. :)

So, is it that?

Or is it 'just' a visual effect?

Wags,

Please look into the problem in Combined Arms in that non-Host Ground Commanders cannot control AI aircraft.

Can you provide a report on fixing this issue?

Thanks for the quick reply, Wags.

I look forward to hearing more about resolving this, and when.

Sounds like there are a lot of nice improvements this time around. Eager to give the ATC modifications a test run. The new detection logic sounds like it'll make things more interesting as well.

Disproportionally excited for the new explosion eye candy. I hope we get some screenshots soon.

I know it's a ways off but I'm also looking forward to the AFM for the F-15 and Su-27. That's really what I'm waiting for before I get really into those aircraft and do their campaigns.

12 julho de 2013 - DCS News Update

Our effect artists are busy improving many effects for both their visual appeal and performance. As mentioned last week, one example are new wing tip vortices. As more are completed, I will be sure to post them in future updates.

this vortex effect is very poor

I'm sure they will get on that when Quantum Computing becomes commonplace. Until then you may have to deal with art assets disimilar to real life.

Standalone A10 C had wingtip vortices. They did not cause any FPS loss that I can remember. Not sure why we had to lose those in World. Same with the tinted front cockpit. But we got cluster bombs, rockets that now slide show the game. World is like CLOD in reverse. Every single update comes with FPS hits. Seriously how fun can it be to fire the mini gun on the Huey at 5 FPS? (It's no fun looking at it out the window of the A10 on multiplayer either) At this point ANYTHING that can be done for performance would certainly be a relief.

Hello guys,

I think that the effect of the new wingtip vortices are too short.

cool video, hopefully the DCS is capable of doing the same vortex

Maybe later, who knows? But I'm pretty certain they've got bigger fish to fry first however...

Could you specify please? I ran some minigun tests just to see now, and found nothing remarkable. Or do you mean specifcally that it's not "fun" to fire miniguns while a (different) known performance issue is in effect?

This is my test on the miniguns:

attachment.php?attachmentid=84925&stc=1&d=1374242522

(At the start some maneuvers with part of city in view while firing guns, thereafter stabilized view with intermittent salvoes of a couple seconds.)

If it is the miniguns themselves that cause the problem for you, please try a lower graphics configuration, or PM me and we can see if we can figure out what the problem is.

Compare your specs with his... if I am reading right... that might be the difference... there is issues with shells that have smoke effects on slower machines to some extent, P-51 can loose some FPS for if alot of gun fire is going off. Not a ton mind you... but then my machine is on the low end as well...

Yeah, but I just want to be sure whether this can be pinned down to a specific config on his computer.

He's not that much weaker than mine though (I don't use my OC, btw). His GPU is okey, and the "drops" I see are mainly when the initial tracers are visible, so it shouldn't be ballistics calculation on the CPU.

Off-topic for this thread though, but I'd be intrigued to help him out in PM or a different thread to see what can be done there. :)
