Flying Penguin Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 OK. Haven't bothered with reading this whole thread, so pardon my possible ignorance, but this is the impression I got: IIRC, when ED first announced Steam integration, it was said that only new buyers will benefit from it, so no way to turn your old modules bought in ED shop into Steam-integrated modules. Quite a few people were sad about this, because they wanted their modules to be integrated into Steam, but not for the price of buying them again. Now, here comes news that Steam integration of our old modules is possible. I don't know, but it seems to me that somebody from ED had to negotiate with Steam pretty hard to make it happen. And here we go again. ED tried to make their customers and fans happy by doing something they want, and instead of them coming and saying "Thank You", they rush in with pitchforks and torches, spreading conspiracy theories (as bright, substantiated and logical as conspiracy theories always are), and start blaming both Steam and ED. Sometimes I'm really wondering why are ED doing what are they doing for community like this. As for me, I'll give this one a miss. Yes, I do use own some games on Steam and have no problems with it whatsoever, but I can't see any single benefit of transferring my DCSW into it. However, if it brings more customers to ED, I'm all for it. Well said that man.... Revvin Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Thanks to the team at ED for making this happen. I can't believe that a positive move in getting exposure on Steam for the DCS series and also making it possible for existing customers to migrate to this format can be seen by some to be such a bad thing. I think some people here are being deliberately obtuse just to create controversy and bad feeling.
Flying Penguin Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Good stuff. Wags (if you are following this thread), is there any plan for keys purchased through channels other than direct from ED? I can't be the only person here who has modules purchased from other retailers (e.g. Game Fly). Also, for those of us with FC3, is it possible to get access to the FC3 single modules via Steam? In my over simplified happy little world it looks like just a case of looking at the keys bound to our ED accounts and doing the jiggery pokery to map these to Steam titles, although I'm sure the mechanics of doing this are not simple... Cheers, Jamie Well answered my first question, it just works. Added my GameFly purchases to Steam and it works just fine.... That only leaves the question around the FC3 individual modules. SkateZilla Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Does your FC3 key give you access to the individual modules on ED's site? :music_whistling: If FC3 is installed, then the Individuals are hidden from the DCSW Main Menu. Dont purchase the individuals. Only way to find out is the paste the FC3 In Steam to see what is says... The only Exception noted was BS2 Upgrade. Flying Penguin Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) Does your FC3 key give you access to the individual modules on ED's site? :music_whistling: No, clearly not at the moment, but that wasn't the question. But if all FC3 owners have to be outside Steam in order to integrate FC3 jets into DCSW, when exactly the same jets are available on Steam individually, that's not a sensible situation in my book. The main point of FC3 was integration with DCSW, and given ED have confirmed that FC3 module owners will receive all updates that will feature in the standalone jets, there is no cost to ED, other than some level of administrative overhead, to granting access. So surely it's better to grant access via existing codes, rather than shut FC3 users out of Steam when you've gone to the trouble of giving everyone else the option. YeaImRota Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 buying the ka 50 upgrade in hindsight seems like a stupid idea.. As said earlier, there needs to be a system where you can put both your BS1 key and BS2 upgrade key into a form and have it generate a BS2 full key. Either that, or look for BS1 on Steam when activating a BS2 upgrade key there and then tie BS2 to that account if it exists. I would prefer Steam over the Starforce limited activations, but I just wish that this could get more streamlined. Regarding the conspiracy theorists, I love how you all make such a big deal about a list of serial numbers when the NSA is reading your emails and listening to your phone calls. It's ****ing ridiculous that this thread has devolved into such idiotic speculation instead of actual discussion on how this system can be better. http://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit Hoggit 1st Fighter Wing Weekly training missions on Tuesday nights, missions on Saturdays! KaspeR32 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 DCS on Steam still uses the same Starforce activation system. Interesting. Either way, I couldn't be happier about this Steam migration. I love updating through Steam, using the friends list, achievements, and just having a neat little collection of games in one area on my computer. I just hope they iron out some of the other little issues. Owners of FC3 will hopefully be able to grab the individual FC aircraft at some point. And BS2 upgrade owners have always had the short end of the stick when it comes to DCS: World. I would love to trade in both my BS1 + BS2 upgrade keys for a single BS2 key. The only difference is Steam Activates the Serial Number Automatically during "First Time Setup" of DCSW or During the "Installation" of DLC. Depending on your Settings, You can change it so you are required to paste the key in the Activation box, but if you leave it on Default/Auto, Steam Automatically does it. Same rules Apply for Steam, AFAIK in regards to Act/De-Acts. Dany90 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 But what about DCS BS2 upgrade, FC3 and DCS A10C on steam, anyone know if there will be future compatibility I mean merge DCS full game with DLC and merge BS1 with BS2 on steam and FC3 And this will happen again and again and again...
PeterP Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) But what about DCS BS2 upgrade, FC3 and DCS A10C on steam, anyone know if there will be future compatibility I mean merge DCS full game with DLC and merge BS1 with BS2 on steam and FC3 Difficult to see. ...Always in motion is the future. DCS Activation Keys Merged to Steam Dear all, Today we were informed that all DCS activation keys purchased through Eagle Dynamics, with the exception of the Black Shark 2 Upgrade, have been merged to Steam. Matt 26 July 2013: DCS News Update A-10A and Su-25 for DCS Flaming Cliffs Now Available Today, A-10A and Su-25 for DCS Flaming Cliffs went on sale for $14.99 on our online store: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co...r=shop&lang=en These modules feature: 1- Detailed 3D model (high polygon / high res textures) 2- 6 DOF cockpit 3- Advanced Flight Model (AFM) 4- Same level of cockpit system detail as the Lock On: Flaming Cliffs aircraft We are releasing these modules for the following reasons: 1- It allows users access to these aircraft that do not own, or want to own, Lock On. 2- It allows users to buy just the aircraft they are interested in, without having to purchase the full Flaming Cliffs 3 product. 3- It allows us to make these aircraft available to a much larger audience on Steam, Origin, GameFly and other digital retailers. If you already own FC3, you do NOT need to purchase these. The A-10A and Su-25 of FC3 are identical to the DCS Flaming Cliffs versions. ^^^^ above means : FC3 cant be re-published on another platform because of legal issues with UBI-SOFT . FC3 is a addon for LockOn and it needs the original LockOn installed to be functional. And UBI-Soft still holds all rights of LockOn. So ED 'decoupled' the single planes from FC3 and reworked them (new cockpit/new AFM) to make them work without the need of LockOn. ...I wish you good luck to explain to a Steam user that he can buy FC3 on Steam , but needs to buy LockON from UBI-Soft to make some use of it... :P.... ...So FC3 can't be available on Steam. And I highly doubt that Steam will integrate keys of a software that isn't available in their store. So we will not see that you can register your FC3 in your Steam portfolio.
