mia389 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 This might be wrong place but I just wanted to say how impressed I am with this community. Most other gaming forums I am involved with don't compare to the respect for one an other that I see here. Guys are very helpful and respectful here. Other gaming forums I am involved with. Spetz Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I saw the thread title and I was like "oh noes, here we go..." I see that too 98% of the time. The demographic that this title lends itself to seems to be an older crowd that just don't want to bother with Internet drama and "I pwned you dude" type stuff. I do enjoy my time here.
Picksplitter Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Most other gaming forums I am involved with don't compare to the respect for one an other that I see here. Guys are very helpful and respectful here. Too true, Mia... Soon after getting my Hog I was also very impressed by the decorum on this forum. There seems to be no end of patient individuals here prepared to talk anyone thru anything! And I must agree with Spetzs' take on the demographic... but the joy lies in seeing the 'youngun's' picking up on the respect and emulating it. Which again, proves an ancient adage true... Fjordmonkey Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 This community is among the nicest I've been in, although it's somewhat interesting to see that anyone coming in here with a chip on their shoulder and an axe to grind quickly finds out that there are sharks in these waters :D Plus, of course, effective moderation absolutely helps. I'm glad that the DCS-products don't cater to some of the same crowd that hangs around at the BIStudios-boards, or even worse *shudders* the 1C Bananaboards for IL2: CLoD. Now there was a vicious community.. Regards Fjordmonkey Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone. I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.
Bucic Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 If you're impressed with this forum, you should check the BoB2 section of A2A simulations forums :) Here we consider guys in their 30s seniors. There - probably 40s is 'the norm'. They helped me tone down my temper. ENO Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Occasionally I think passion is a two way street and guys let it get the better of them in a negative fasion. I do find the mods are on top of it, however, and guys acting out are straightened up pretty quick. I do enjoy these forums, however... and I'm glad others feel the same way I do about the community overall. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. I used to fly FSX a lot starting in about 2009, the guys I stuck with to fly though were all over 40. It was the only way I could enjoy the game. I did screw around with the F-18 though, like the "kids" - but I kept distance and flew formation with the guys in the airliners, landing with ILS with the group and such. When I tell my friends I like sims, they call me boring. :joystick: I tell them their attention spans are too short to understand what I find enjoyable. :music_whistling: My Rig: CPU: i9-9900k - Corsair H150 Cooler. Rotorhead Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Yeah, compared to some other forums I know, I must say that DCS community is one of the best, if not the very best of them all. Yes, we sometimes argue hard, and we voice our opinions rather loudly, but, except a handful of individuals, still keeping good manners. I know this forum as a very friendly place, where people gather to share their passion for flying. If somebody needs help, it does not take long and another forum member comes with good advice. Overall, I'm very happy and proud to be part of this community. Only thing I dare to disagree is the "age theory". Yes, people tend to get more mature as they grow older, but experience tells me it's not as common sight as you might think. It's not about how old you are, it's about how you want to behave. I think the key is somewhere else. I don't want to sound elitist, but this forum is about high fidelity flight simulations, right? And if you want be to good (or at least decent) at it, you need some intelligence, understanding, willingness to learn and improve, and lots of patience. And I think all of these virtues are a good prerequisite that you will be able to discuss in a mature manner, too. And I won't even mention that not a small portion of this community consists of real life pilots and the like. You know, before strapping you into a multi-million-dollar jet, they usually make sure you're not a complete moron. ;)

Yes, people tend to get more mature as they grow older, but experience tells me it's not as common sight as you might think. It's not about how old you are, it's about how you want to behave. Amen to this. I've found over the years that age has very little with to do with maturity in general, and that you can as easily find a mature, polite 16-19 year old kid as you can a foulmouthed, ultramuppet 60-year old fart. And that especially holds true in flightsim-communities :) I also like what Tiburtius said, how some of his friends don't have the attention-span to enjoy flightsims. I have the same issue with some of my friends, who can't understand how I manage to study the A10C Flight-manual and checklists in order to try to learn how to fly and fight effectively, and I usually get a sea of dumbfounded faces when I try to explain the immense feeling of satisfaction I get through understanding and mastering any given procedure or system.
