Hi

Ages ago someone out there made a really nice little tutorial mission where you got to start up, take off, fly to a little village, hide behind a ridge, take out 3 tanks and then move onto an enemy camp and blow it up. All this then return to base. I love using this mission to get myself warmed up after a prolonged period of not playing BS.

It was called Tutorial01.miz

I have it installed and it shows up on the missions list but it won't run on the newer versions.

Anyone know how I can make it run or does anyone have an updated version of the mission that will work?

Cheers!

You will probably have to rebuild it from scratch. A lot has changed in the ME since BS1.

EDIT: Have you seen these?

That would be the fella!

I tried just opening it and trying to save it but no joy. I have started trying to replicate it in the Mission Editor, with a certain amount of success. My version is not as polished but it's doing the job of letting me up and about and blow some stuff up to remind me how to do it.

I did see the training missions listed Cichlidfan but I have a particular fondness for that one.

I have downloaded this one and tried it and it doesn't work with BS2. On loading it just hangs.

In fairness, I have very nearly finished my own version. It was actually easier than I expected. The mission isn't exactly the same - when I opened the original in the editor the tanks were completely missing so I had to try to work out where they were supposed to be. I'm not at all sure that I've put them in the right place, but they can't be too far off.

Once I've added some voice to it it'll be pretty much finished. I'll post it here if anyone is interested.

Cool. I'll stick it up once I've done the talky stuff.

Talking of the talky stuff, I have recorded it in .mp3, which appears to be a valid format but it won't play.

I have set the trigger to Sound to Coalition and loaded the relevant .mp3 but when I hit the Play button it doesn't play and when I tried it in game, on start-up, it also didn't play though the accompanying text popped up.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

So mp3 won't work?

I'll try converting my mp3s to wav files and see if that's any better.

I converted all the speech files to wav last night and they work. There are 6 files of about 7 seconds each so it's not an enormous amount.

I'm just considering whether to bother / whether it's necessary to try and do radio effects on it.

I'm using audacity and not really sure where to start.

Hi

I've uploaded this now.

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/496828/

I can't speak for its quality - it's my first full mission.

The voice seems very quiet. I tried recording it louder but it didn't seem to make a difference. Not sure what's going on there.

Anyway. Enjoy!

Sounds good! :)

I checked "How to take off and blow stuff up" a few moments ago, the DCS World compatible version works in my 1.2.6, no problems there. Did you download the old one?

I'll just re-post the links here:

How to take off and blow stuff up for DCS World

How to take off and blow stuff up for BS1

(I just host the files, the mission is still 100% Para_Bellum's work. Discussion about the DCS World compatible version.)

I didn't even realise that there was an updated one.

I've tried the one listed above and it loads fine, I'm sure it works OK too.

I would be kicking myself for not finding that before all the work I put in on my version but I learned stuff along the way so it's all good :)

Cheers for the link. I always prefer playing missions made by other people.

Yeah, the ME is a mighty powerful tool. I only scratched the surface so far, and it's just fascinating what can be achieved with it. Never a bad idea to get to know it a little better. :D
