upupandaway Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 One question in this context - just out of curiosity: CoD had a publisher, for DCS WWII we are basically in the role of the publishers. At the beginning of such a project, after it has been greenlit by a publisher, how often are progress update expected by them? I know this might differ heavily depending on the particular circumstances, but do the publishers get all the dirty details about the confusing and unfinished lines of code that have been written during a week and so on? Or does it tend to be more like "ok, you have a couple of weeks now, when some of the basic features are taking shape, report back etc. etc."? This would interest me. Davis0079 Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 if your going to compare the customer to the publisher...I would like to remind everybody that the publishing companies(*cough*Ubi*cough) have a track record of asking for too many updates, pushing time tables, micro managing everything and eventually ruining the project as a whole, making the project go under, or forcing an early release of an unfinished bug fest... ...after thinking about it like this...i'm sad we put so much pressure on the Devs...no matter how much money we have invested.. ....adding more pressure to someones shoulders does not make them produce more then if you where to give them solutions...point being, if your not supplying a steady flow of solutions, make a conscious effort to not be a part of the problem... It only takes two things to fly, Airspeed and Money.

Don´t read something into it that I didn´t write, please. My inquiry was just aiming for the circumstances during the initial / conceptual phase of development, not games being pushed out in an unfinished state because the publisher has run out of patience. Really just being curious... FWIW let me reiterate that I really think we should give the guy time to get his personal s**t together first, regardless of him possibly having made stupid pledges he seemingly can't adhere to. Just so there is no misunderstanding - this was more or less my initial point. Edited November 1, 2013 by upupandaway [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!

Mysticpuma Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) As this is the 'official' thread, I'd like to point out that most of us aren't 'angry' were just frustrated :( Having seen the mistakes Luthier made on the CloD forums with lack of communication, patronising replies, etc, etc this is is chance to break free of the previous issues by setting a new standard and benchmark for 'his' community. I personally have no expectations of huge updates and multiple new aircraft/tank/vehicle WiP images being shown, I'd much rather have Ilya drop in here, much as we do, and just put a message on here, have a chat, or just interact with us more. These threads are more out of concern to make sure that outside of this community there doesn't begin a 'told you so' attitude, whereas with a little input by Luthier, it would show that at-least he was interested in his backers and keeping them inside? So, Luthier, if you do read this, the support is there but please don't let the momentum you have be diluted through multiple requests for contact that are ignored. All of us take a few minutes out of our day to read and post on forums, if you are unable to.do this you really should get a spokesman :) MP Edited November 1, 2013 by Mysticpuma
SlipBall Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 He will appoint someone for that it seems...a good idea I think
Mysticpuma Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Thanks Luthier, just saw the huge update. Good work :)
Rangi Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 His reasons for lack of contact are clearly stated in the update and living in the middle of nowhere I can sympathize with connection difficulties. Must be nice to have 4g access and fibre broadband but it's not everywhere yet... PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.

Revvin Posted November 1, 2013 Author Posted November 1, 2013 Great update, as Mysticpuma says its not about being angry its just about wanting some kind of interaction. I'd have been happy with half of the information that came out today, even if Luthier had said a few days ago "hey I'm suffering with connection issues, I will be back on the forums soon" it would have helped. The new cockpit images look fantastic I wasn't expecting to see that stuff so early on. The project takes as long as it needs, if it runs over I wouldn't have a problem with that just as long as Luthier keeps us posted its all good.
Hans-Joachim Marseille Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) How about Oleg Maddox for community manager? He speaks both Russian and English, and commands respect. At least he has mine. Some high-res shots of that Bf.109 cockpit would be nice. While Ilya should definitely give us a bell every now and then, you've also got to remember that as per his own announcement he's currently going through divorce as well. So how 'bout cutting the guy some slack here, huh?I think you better explain what going through a divorce means to some in this crowd. Maybe they think it's all roses and you'll have plenty of time to post updates for work in between lawyer bills, paperwork, cold lonely pizza, sleepless nights and booze. As this is the 'official' thread, I'd like to point out that most of us aren't 'angry' were just frustrated Can you please stop acting like you're the voice of this community? Thanks. ishtmail Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 What Mysticpuma said. Most of us weren't angry, just concerned. Glad to hear he's planning to get a full-time community manager. Agreed, not a pleasant experience, though nothing involving a court room is ever pleasant. I think this will explain it well enough for even the simplest of people. tronchaser Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 +1 for Oleg Maddox to be the community manager, great idea Hans. Wonder if Luthier could talk him into it?
ishtmail Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Guys, Oleg is already associated with this project (as per Kickstarter page), and if he wanted to be more involved with the community, don't you think he would have done so already, at least make a public post saying hi or something? At any rate, I'd rather have Oleg developing the game than managing the community. Just a thought.
