To everyone that is considering getting the X55 you might wanna start a massdrop vote and you could get really nice discount - i've seen things go for up to 42% off.

Needs 200 votes to get it to the purchasing stage.

https://www.massdrop.com/vote/saitek-x55-rhino-hotas-system-for-pc

Its similar to kickstarter, as in once there are enough people registered for interested, they will go straight to the manufacturer and get a batch of the product with discounted since there is no middle-man, and well they have a known quantity guaranteed for sale.

Make sure you vote for the first one option not the 2nd one (i stuffed it up)

Have to admit, this looks better than the warthog for jets with radar. It really annoys me not having any rotaries on the 'hog.

Unless they have a better source for pots than they have used in the past, the rotaries won't be of all that much use.

I think Logitech need to build something like a replica FA-18 or Su27 hotas with ffb and they will dominate the market. look how well the warthog has done, Saitek have there own style but most flight sim users go for immersion and having a starwars style joystick infront of u covering in glowing led's is the worst thing for that. unless your flying a spacecraft lol. one of my favourite sticks was the trustmaster master flight control system. felt amazing compaired to new ones.

G940 is amazing but it has few flaws what are that stick would need 1-3 4-way hats more, more likely where the thumb button is, so it would be like WH. And then have a two 4-way on throttle too where fingers have now two buttons.

And of course, make the throttle be adjustable so you can add a new extension pipe to other so helicopter pilots would be happy. And do same to stick, add a nice curved 50cm extension pipe so you can place it o floor and stick gets on you lap. This without modification requirements and it is a hit. Of course sell then packages and each part individually. No need for individual USB cables but keep same hub in stick where you attach all parts.

Personally, I haven't had any issues with the X65 pots compared to e.g. X52 Pro which are unstable (though, that might be because the price is much higher so they used somewhat better pots).

Ar they talking about two X55 joysticks? Mach and Rhino? If so maybe one is FFB.

I would like a Joystick with Warthog slim base like... but with both FFB and Force sensing. If I want to fly an F16 or a Rafale the FFB should make the stick stiff and the Force Sensing should take over... other than that the Force sensing would have a role in modulating the power from FFB in some occasions... like a feedback better than the optical sensor from G940 that has only 0 and 1 positions... like when you take the hand of it should not snap like a moron but sense I let it go and move slowly to center. Etc.

I didn't like the idea at all in the hand detection what is reason why I taped sensor because flying helicopter and then when you are requires to take right hand off for a second, chopper is around and mast pumped rotor off.

If it would return stick to new center KA-50 trimming, it would be awesome as it would keep going as should.

isn't with all those fly by wires, real planes don't have force feedback anymore? or I'm assuming wrong?

They do have. At least su-27\35 has feedback to pilot and don't see why it wouldn't be with others (excluding F-16 etc)

Damn, read Massdrop's FAQ and it seems it's only suitable for those in the US, as their parcels are only tracked whilst their in the US and there will be considerable shipping and customs fees (at least 20% VAT plus Royal Mail's £8 handling fee) to pay on top of the purchase price :(

Stuff to Australia seemed quite reasonable. Even with the postage and any potential taxes, it was still considerably cheaper.

I couldn't actually see anywhere on the site where it states how much shipping will be to the UK though, so I can't really know what the final price will be (before import duties).

All I found was the FAQ which says:

"Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We do everything that we can to support shipping to all countries. Keep in mind that you might have to pay more for shipping if you live outside of the United States, and you’ll be responsible for any additional customs fees, taxes, or duties. Also, bear in mind that the vast majority of our products are shipped using the US Postal Service (or USPS, not to be confused with UPS), and the tracking numbers for these shipments only work while the shipment is inside the US. The last location listed on an international order's tracking record is usually Los Angeles, Chicago, or Jamaica, New York, as these are the places through which all USPS packages leave the USA."

Twist stick can be locked out probably like on previous Saitek sticks (though hopefully it will be made more sturdy than on the X52 Pro). How exactly does no FF make it "bad for most"? HOTAS products don't come with FFB generally (there are some exceptions, of course, like e.g. G940).

Like the seemingly ruberised stick and throttle, hope the buttons and pots are not too cheap as on the X52 Pro. Looks like something I could buy for general usage if the price is decent and the spring 'feel' is OK.

WTF - a hat on the ring-finger? Whatta fail in design!

Looking at pics, interesting that they moved the hat switch to the left throttle, seems weird to use the ring finger for that?

I thought that at first too but the specs have it listed as 2 way.

It's the "K" switch. It's a 2 way up/down switch.

Still seems kind of awkward though.

Exactly for that reason (as far as I am concerned :o) - normal joysticks and HOTAS are available like sand at the beach and I am not overly interested in another one. A decent FFB device on the other hand would be gold ...

It does look weird. However, I will not prejudge functionality of the hat switch before I actually put my hands on it.

Yeah, I'm disappointed too but I think you're wrong to suggest that we're spoilt for decent HOTAS. What other than the Warthog (which is much more expensive) is available with so many hats and switches and using hall sensors?

I think it will be like anything, and just take some getting used to, but I dont see anything on the stick or throttle that looks too bad... I will start doing pinky curls to make sure the muscles are ready ;)
