Was curious if any of our fellow DCS'ers also fly R/C aircraft? I currently fly both park flyers and the micro's. All of them electric. My current "fleet" is:

- Park flyers: F4u, F4F, T28, SE5a, and the BF109

- Micro flyers: F4u, T-28, and the Champ

I do like flying R/C, but having a sim such as DCS is a much greater immersion. I find myself "flying" more on the computer, than anything else. :pilotfly:

I've been doing RC planes on and off for the past decade or so. My most recent ship is a scratch-built FPV plane, or 'camera drone' for the non-RC initiated. I've been meaning to upload a video showcasing it onto Youtube..Need to get around to that..

I've been flying for about 20 years, on and off. Everything from control line to nitro helicopters, but nothing too extreme, my budget has never allowed it. :) Currently, I have a Staudacher S300 (.60 size), a radian pro sailplane, nano cpx helicopter, umx sbach, micro polecat, gws slowstick, and parrot ar drone 2.0... I've been working on a 1/5 scale j3 Cub, but progress has stalled a bit since I packed it up for a move and haven't restarted the build.

I want to get back into big helicopters (a 600 would be nice) but I couldn't imagine having that kind of cash again. I want to save up to really fly and get a license, but between r/c, the sims, and my other hobbies, I don't know how that's going to work. :)

I am playing around with RC toys too. I was going from electrical engines through nitro and gas. My favourite one is now an P47 1.18, 4 stroke Saito nitro. Biggest plane is a Piper 2.5m wingspan and a 1.20 nitro engine.

About RC heli actually I am a bit scarred about big ones > class 400. I like them though, but I always watch them from a very safe distance :D.

Also I own some 1:16 scale RC tanks heavily tuned with aftermarket parts.

Those "toys" challenged me and have added to my general knowledges some important facts, which improves even more my understandings. I know some real pilots stating that flying planes in cockpit is somehow easier than flying them RC (not including here instruments, of course :) ).

Overall, is a wonderfull hobby!

though, this isn't... I came across this video, via an R/C website. incredible...

^ Those are the kinds of aircraft I refuse to even consider, I could have already paid my way through a pilots licence and some hours with *one* plane like that, let alone my collection thus far.

And yes, the big helicopters are mostly fun because they're terrifying... Not only for life and limb, but for your wallet. :D Even with the 400's, any contact with the ground other than a perfect landing is guaranteed to cost at least $60.

I like my NanoCPX, it's like real life R/C simulator, you can fly it almost as recklessly as you wish and it'll take crashes in stride, yet it's responsive and quick enough to do many of the 3D tricks (pretty much all the ones that don't rely on inertia). It's like flying an ultra-maneuverable R/C dragonfly.

exactly! hence, I stick with the foam / electrics. low cost, easy to fly, and simple to repair.

one thing with R/C's that's guaranteed, you're gonna crash at some point... :joystick: :music_whistling:

Actually that was filmed with just one GoPro.

I did a flight than landed and repositioned the camera to a new spot.

It was a total of four flights.

Since than I have collected a few more GoPro cameras. I now use the GoPro Hero 3 (Black Edition)

The quality is so much better than it was back then.

Some R/C Dogfighter pics

Hey there,

I have been doing R/C ever since with changing focus focus on cars, planes and helicopters...

Some pics:

TopFlite P-47 D23 Razorback with OS-FS-1.20 SuperCharger 4-Stroke ( great sound ! ), retracts, flaps and 2 x drop tanks ( center and wings separate ).

Flies like charm despite its ultra-high wing loading due to 7.75kg take off weight at 1.6m Wingspan. This Jug flies like a dream !!!

The smaller, balsa finish one is already fiberglassed, you just cant see on the pics.

That one flies a lot more agil, only 88cm wingspan @ 3sLipo and BL motor.

Dogfights like a beast, fast as a falcon and NOT forgiving when cornering too tight...staaaaall :)

Got many many more, even more that aren't anymore ( haha ! )

ohh. and the 1:6 FG Marder Buggies.... sold them meanwhile but were a blast for some time.

Need propellers....you never find the right pitch/diameter..no matter how many you have.

Over 100 props, wood, fiber, electric, gas...too many different ones and never the right one

Yeah, these RC Air Craft are kool.

When I was very young my father had a small RC plane dont know what happen to it, probably crashed it......oops : (

But I would love to own the new series of Turbine Jet Powered RC Air Craft, they sound awesome..............

Also now I noticed thru various Youtubes you can get camera's and vision head sets .....................

Web site http://www.fatshark.com/ heaps of other manufacturers designing this type of stuff now for drone type gear.

Here's another type...........

Another Link ........ http://www.nitroplanes.com/pivifpvwhead.html

As to which is the best I dont know many reviews and opinions on various designs some with headtrack and night vision and many other features.

Heres a video with good detail to an F-15RC model.... I like!

160 hrs worth....WoW haaa .......... Kool!
