Ghostraider Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Another thing for the wishlist is the helmet mounted cuing system, is called skorpion by Gentex and is Tested in the real A-10 last year, look here: http://www.janes.com/article/23340/usaf-a-10-crews-evaluate-scorpion-hmcs [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]www.49th.de
SkateZilla Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) The A-10C they are testing them on is Several Revisions Newer than the Suite 3 A-10Cs in DCS. Though it's prolly easily compatible to the Helmet System everyone uses. A-10C's are also in the process of being retired. Ghostraider Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) of course but the lifetime is set to 2020 or longer, when the F-35/F-22 can will resume the missions from the A-10c, i think its impossible to replace an a10 with a jet Edited January 3, 2014 by Ghostraider [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]www.49th.de
Snoopy Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) The A-10C they are testing them on is Several Revisions Newer than the Suite 3 A-10Cs in DCS. A-10C's are also in the process of being retired. HMCS is already being used and not in testing anymore. Both the 74th and 75th FS at Moody deployed to Afghanistan using HMCS jets. The 75th is still deployed and kicking a*% with HMCS jets. But, you are correct that it is a later suite, 7 to be exact. And they aren't officially being retired, yet. Nothing official has come down on this and until I'm on duty and briefed we'll loose all our jets by date XYZ I won't believe it'll happen. Though it's prolly easily compatible to the Helmet System everyone uses. It's not the same or compatible. of course but the lifetime is set to 2020 Actually last date I saw officially was 2028 but even that was at one time looking to be bushed into 2030 or later. Nealius Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 That's interesting. What do the A-10 pilots primarily use the HMCS for? I have always thought of it as a purely air-to-air tool, especially with the AIM-9X/IRIS-T. Are there any plans for the A-10 to be able to carry the -9X? That would be an awesome self-defense capability.

To early to say for sure, possible new advanced missile ordinance as well. more info found here https://www.thalescomminc.com/userimages/Documents/CustomerSupport/Customer_Commitment_DEC_2013.pdf http://www.f-16.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=23330&start=15 http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/usaf-to-evaluate-scorpion-helmet-display-on-f-22-raptor-383307/ http://theaviationist.com/2013/03/page/4/ I would say yep more capability for a-a for A-10C Edited January 4, 2014 by WRAITH
Snoopy Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 The A-10C software isn't for better air to air. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website

Imagine being able to see friendly forces location symbology being sent via EPLRS as you look around outside, and the same for wingmen, waypoint etc. Also imagine being able to just look at a point on the ground and slew your TGP/Maverick to it, or make a markpoint there and then. Sound useful?
Snoopy Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Here you go... The two primary purposes of the Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS) are to cue the aircraft sensors to the Line-Of-Sight (LOS) and provide situational awareness through symbology on the Helmet Mounted Display (HMD). v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
Nealius Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Whoa, that's a much more advanced HMCS than I thought. I thought the information it gave was much less than that.
Eddie Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Modern HMS can display a LOT of stuff, at the very basic level they show the same information as is shown on the HUD, minus things like the FPM & pitch ladder. And in the case of some aircraft they can also display real time FLIR imagery.

Sound useful? I remember that in the early A-10 Betas you could see EPLRS friendlies on the HUD, it was very useful - can't remember the lua file edit to get it back though, but it can be done.
