  2. The "old hands" will remember him as "BrzI", head of the Russian Air Force Staff College, where we flew for points in the missions he created and scored. In this tutorial, he returns as an instructor. The "Tanker Attack" mission is the last stock Su-27 mission (#5). The night is dark and stormy and you and your wingman are tasked with downing a well protected KC-10A tanker aircraft. In this tutorial, Goran "BrzI" Ivaz discusses some of the advantages and pitfalls of making a "stealthy" low-level approach. He gives some excellent hints on wingman management and even talks a bit about astral navigation. Come, join the fun. You'll find the tutorial at the top of the A2A page. 3. Ever since I heard that the DCS series intended to model radar realistically or not at all, I've been thinking about how it could be done, and done right. I finally gave in and started to write it all down, and the result can be downloaded here: http://greystork.com/resume/writing/Detailed%20radar%20simulation.pdf I will undoubtedly subject myself to a lot of flak about how I missed this and that, but it's a start. Any (constructive) suggestions are welcome. I should mention that I never intended this thing to be this 30 page tome, but that's how it turned out. My apologies to you poor souls who choose to actually read it. :smilewink:

:noexpression: ...

  9. Of course they didn't fire any. It wasn't exactly a target rich environment during Desert Storm. Of course, we didn't know it would be so easy to gain air superiority, or we wouldn't have bother with the Stingers. On another note, one of the pilots that I'm working with right now has done fairly extensive training with Stingers on the AH-64D Longbow Apache, but they are certainly not mounted in combat at this time as there is no threat. Keep in mind that these are Stingers we're talking about, not Sidewinders. No U.S. Air Force aircraft mounts Stingers. Other than "proof of concept" for USMC aircraft, I've never seen a helicopter fire a Sidewinder. So the argument that you're taking ordnance away from someone who could make better us of it is invalid. U.S. Army doctrine is pretty clear that A2A combat is something to be avoided if at all possible. Stingers are meant as a defensive weapon against other helicopters, and are certainly not meant to be used offensively against fast movers. It's also widely understood that the use of helicopters in an environment where your side does not have air superiority is not a very wise move.

  10. This incident is described in the book "Strike Eagle", and it was in Desert Storm. And looking it up now, yes, the book does say they used air-air radar to lock up the the helicopter while it was on the ground. I can quote the relevant section if you like. Actually it took off just after they launched the GBU. But it still hit.

  12. The thing is: The newest F-16-versions still suck! The newest Mig29 (MIG29OVT/Mig35) is THE fighter plane of the future. -Ultra light frame (75%+ carbon) -AESA radar -Real 3D thrust vectoring (2D sucks) -Most agile fighter at the moment -Unique EOS system -Soon the ramjet R-77 version -Best performance/price in his class (F-16/F-18 segment, not the ef2k/f22/su-35 segment ;)) … Eat this: (Black shark version :D)

  13. Lock On and IL2, the two games I play the most are Open GL games and Nvidia handles this better than ATI. Fudd is a Beta tester for Blackshark and he feels that this system will have no trouble handling BS. The thing I considered is I am waiting for Oleg's Battle of Britain. It will be an Open GL game not DX10. The gamble is that this game will work better with Nvidia. My thought is that by the time these games are launched ATI will develop drivers to run them better. You could wait for the new Nvidia card with two chips. It is going up against the HD3870X2. I found this interesting link regarding benchmarking HD3870X2. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2742448

  15. Looking very good Torwak! :) One thing though, the engine mounting should not be that streched on the 737-700 (same as wedgetail). Your wing there looks like a 737 classic. http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0582213&size=L Compared to this http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1317902&size=L Keep up the good work!

  16. Thanks for congratulations :) It was not easy, competition was very tough, namely S77thNotia10 (2nd place) and his gang and Boberros (3rd place), but me any my baby Su-25T somehow managed trough :pilotfly: TorwaK most certainly spiced thing up with his two new and very hard missions (day and night versions). Thanks TorwaK for the awesome gift and, I cannot say this enough, even more thanks for hosting two servers, providing 24/7 support and attractive stats pages. As for missions, several of us are working on new missions that I hope will be added to existing ones pretty soon. Cheers and good hunting!

  21. I am pretty sure that those are R-27ER. I can be wrong, of course. But: 1) R-27ER is the most common version used by Su-33. It is radar guided, which makes it a good choice for QRA mission for low-visibility or long-range intercept. 2) R-27EM is more expensive, therefore barely used. Also it's better suited for targets flying very low(not likely for QRA). 3) R-27P is limited for use against radar emitting targets, so definitely not a good choice for QRA (the potential target could be a hijacked airliner or a small private aircraft, which would make this type of missile useless against them). 4) R-27EA - can't be. This missile is not in the current VMF inventory. It's still a guess, but the educated one :smilewink:
