Hello - First of all: I love DCS:BlackShark I spotted it the first time in the German FS-Magazine And what can I say- since than I never fired FSX for a helicopter ride up again! And I had really had a hard time to get this Simulator - not because it is so hard to get here in Germany - no -it is because you can't spot it the shops! You have to look among Fishing and Sailing simulations... Think about that I got my DCS copy also only by "accident". I bought the FS-Magazine only because I wanted to read a review of the helicopter add-on BO-105 from nemeth designs for FSX ... and than I read this review about a strange Russian helicopter.... So how many people grab Hawks instead of BlackShark because they didn't know it better?! And I thought that I have to do something about this and here is what I'm doing everytime I'm near a electronic store like "MediaMarkt" or "Saturn" (Germany's equivalent to "Bestbuy"): This is a video from my last "shopping tour" I did it up to now in 3 markets (and more to come). And so should you :) Be a DCS-Media Guerilla! -Join Now! -Spread the Word!7 points

Hey guys, for the last many months I've been developing an abstract BFM trainer, that uses abstract, simplistic and minimalistic graphics. The focus is dead straight on BFM, fighter maneuvering, with advanced intelligent AI. It has simple controls, runs on old dumps, supports network multiplayer up to 32 players in 4 teams. It supports joystick input (also recommended method of input), and has relatively realistic dynamics (It's far from commercial simulators, but it defintely ain't no HAWX.). It even supports recording to TacView ACMI format! Basically think of it as the dogfight training mode of your favourite jet flight sim (Falcon 4 / LOMAC dogfghting training modes), except free and open-source, and much simplified. The idea is to focus on BFM skills and actics without having to worry about 500 keys in your cockpit avionics systems or epic, lagging graphics. Link to website & download: http://aeron.sourceforge.net/ Youtube trailer: Demo TacView format ACMI: Me versing my brother (who is a beginner :D) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L7O8X802 Screenshots: I very much hope this raises interest of members here! (especially the people who are fed up with arcade nonsense physics in HAWX and Ace Combat type games) :smilewink:2 points

Yugoslav MiG-29 pilot locked up and maintained a lock on a JAT (yugoslav air transport) DC-10 at the range of 120 km. DC-10 was entering Yugoslav airspace over Adriatic sea inbound from Italy. Onboard that DC-10 were Yugoslav basketball players who won World championship in 1990 in Argentina. So this was 19 years ago with N001 radar! Two ship MiG-29 flight flew to intercept and escort. (DC-10 is of pretty same RCS as KC-10)! So do not mistake missile Rmax with lock Rmax!2 points

Kamov Ka-50 "Black Shark" Checklist Fairchild Republic A-10C "Warthog" checklist can be found here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=55949 I created 2 versions now of the Normal Checklist : - Normal Checklist (Beginner) This is the checklist as I started out, with keyboard and position columns for the beginner. - Normal Checklist (Pro) This is the same format/layout as a reallife professional checklist, it has no switch locations or keyboard shortcuts in it. This adds to the reality effect and can be used if you know where the switches are. Eventually you should be using the Pro checklist ofcourse. =-) Download: Normal Checklist (Beginner) Normal Checklist (Beginner) v2.1.pdf Normal Checklist (Pro) Normal Checklist (Pro) v2.1.pdf Probably the best thing is to print it out using 2 pages per side so one page has A5 size. Changelog: ************** Normal Checklist Version 2.1 ************* Stopped/Running engine temp gauge test figures added. ************** Normal Checklist Version 2.0 ************* Item location panels now correspond to the manual so beginners can find the items easier. Several items renamed to correspond to in game labels. ************* Normal Checklist Version 1.9.1 ************ Typo fixed thanks to ddahlstrom ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.9 ************* Fixed Fire Suppression mode label to OPER instead of WORK Moved Cyclic/Rudder/Collective Movement check before setting engines to Auto throttle, this way it is the normal way to check, not when the engines are in flight power, checking collective movement would cause the a/c to lift off. ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.8 ************* Fixed error in ground power key assignment, thanks Nightshadow81 ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.7 ************* Removed "Targeting Navigation System ON" as it is for ground/maintenance purposes ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.6 ************* Fixed a error, "INU Heat" first then "INU Power ON" ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.5 ************* Added Hot Refuel/Rearm Checklist During Shutdown checklists set Parking Brake First to prevent a/c movement in high wind conditions ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.4 ************* Added Collective Low Check before engine startup Added Governor L&R Off in shutdown checklist ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.3 ************* Some minor errors corrected Made a Pro & Beginner version Pro has no keyboard shortcuts and location columns ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.2 ************* Some errors corrected Items added that I missed Some orders changed (allthough in game the order doesn't seem to matter) All keyboard assignments added ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.1 ************* Some minor changes/errors I found while using the checklist they have been fixed now. ************** Normal Checklist Version 1.0 ************* Initial release.1 point

N019 N019EA version supplied to Warsaw Pact countries. Lacks "SP" mode N019EB an export variant. Lacks "SP" mode. More downgraded N019M an updated version as a response to the compromise of the N-019 radar by a US spy. Increased ECM resistance, new software. Doubling capacity to 400,000 operations per second compared to the N019. Allows two targets to be engaged by active radar homing missiles simultaneously. Slightly increased range to 80km. N019ME Topaz slightly downgraded for the IAF N019MP version for the Mig-29SMT. Detection of 20 targets simultaneously, track four, and engage two. Ground mapping mode, acquisition and engagement of sea and land targets. Capable of generating maps of 15x15, 24x24, 50x50 or 77x77km with a resolution of 15m. Radar imagery can be transmitted via datalink to GCI centres or A-50 AWACS aircraft. Improved performance against slow flying helicopters and resistance to jamming. Uses Doppler beam sharpening techniques N019M1 Fully programmable digital processing. 30-50% greater range in air-to-air search and track. Improved track-while-scan mode, with the ability to continue volume search for new targets while tracking 10. 4 targets can engaged at once with R-77 missiles. Air to surface modes include Real beam, DBS, SAR (5x5m), and moving target detection. Can handoff target data to the Kh-31A/Kh-35A anti-shipping missiles. Allows target handoff to TV guided weapons.1 point

Yes, sorry my mistake, but it's not the N019 but an И019 (И - I for Izdeliye (product)). This N-I mistake happened after a direct translation where И was mistaken for N. And it was a stock И019! OK I found the data with lots of details regarding the topic of this thread, so here's the important part. It's in Croatian/Serbian but I can translate imprtant parts (underlined text) to the very word so maybe you all can learn my language a bit :-) It says: Introduction of MiG-29 was a quite modernization leap of entire YuAF. Only it's (Fulcrum's) radar И019 had a range of 95km (58nm) with a capability of tracking multiple and engaging two fighter like targets simultaneously! Glossary: MiG-29 = MiG-29 domet = range 95 = 95 km = Kilometer nekoliko = multiple cilj = target gada = engage dva = two isto = same vreme = time Shall we close the subject now and admit that RuAF fighters are undermodeled in LOFC?! + I failed to mention it's a MiG-29A (9-12) I'm talking of, not a MiG-29S (9-13) as in the subject :smilewink:1 point

Doesn't the 29 feature either a N019 or a Zhuk-M (?) depending on the plane's version? Btw, I find it quite amusing how difficult it is to find actual information about the avionics being used in actively operating fighters. They're only quite openhearted about the export versions. But they hardly mention their own equipment.1 point

Thanks for clearing that up Case and Alfa, to think me and 5000 other lost souls were actually starting to believe that RL Flankers could only lock from 66km away. Our resident NATO/Rus testpilot had us going for a while.:D1 point

Surprising how fragile those rotors are when contacting an object. Now I understand that clip where an Apache clipped some trees during a low level training sortie. I know the Mi-8 often clips tree branches and all is needed is some paint.1 point

I don't know what this has to do with anything... if ET had datalink with 1.00-1.01 version and actually it doesn't it would mean they coded it on guess... and my guess would still be to not to give it datalink because the missile has IR guidance. I still doubt radar of these fighters have less range then the missile(s) but if you can prove otherwise I'd like to hear it.1 point

Awesome, good work!! and dont let 'em take you alive!!!1 point

This indeed sounds a lot more plausible. Thanks Alfa  An interesting question that pops up is that launching at a distance of 60km doesn't mean the missile will be beyond 60km from the launching aircraft when it hits :smartass: So that even if it is advised not to launch beyond 60km, it doesn't mean missiles won't hit if launched at that range :D1 point
-
I find this doubtful too GG - I think you are confusing "lock" with "LA" ;) . I think the bit you are refering to in the manuals has to do with missile support range - i.e. the datalink range limit, which IIRC is something along those lines(50-60 km). AFAIK this limit is not with the radar(s), but with the radio reciever on the R-27R missile, which in turn explains why its refered to as a fixed number and the same for both Su-27 and MiG-29.....and in fact(I believe) also the same for both the R-27R and -ER since only the propulsion sections differ.1 point

Su-27 - I'd like to see it able to paint targets for buddy's semi actives, and be able to track and attack 2 targets at once with semi-actives =p1 point

Yeah, as I said, I have seen this phenomenon as well. If it were simply trying to focus on a pre-designated target (for example a active TP on the PVI-800) or a Ingress target via the PRTz+ABRIS then it wouldn't continue to move as if it were tracking a moving vehicle the way I have seen it do. As I said, the only time I have seen this happen for myself is after engaging and killing a moving ground target and it also doesn't always occur either. I will probably try and do some testing on this soon although I am a little busy with work tonight. Madmatt1 point
