This is a pretty straight forward poll. Simply put, what do Black Shark players expecting when they hop online in a server that has aircraft and threats that are not normally present in current Black Shark online games. Please vote and comment why you voted for what you did. As a mission designer and server admin I am very interested in the results and I am confident other dedicated server admins in Lock On and Black Shark alike are also interested. Information like this can be put to good use in the crafting a positive user experience for all pilots.3 points

I seriously fly sim helicopters since 2004. When I was learning to land on helipads, I've been advised to first learn how to perform rolling landings on standard runway (Ka-50's gear with wheels is perfect for this). Only after you've mastered this maneuver, you may try rolling landings with less and less forward velocity. Your ultimate goal should be to be able to reduce forward speed to zero at the exact moment when wheels touch the runway, because it's easier to coordinate helicopter even in a slow forward flight, than in a hover (also, the landing spot is always before you, instead under, which makes things easier to look after and keep under control). Then try to land on a specific point on runway. With some practice (to be honest, with a great amount of hours of practice...) and a proper management of speed/altitude you should be able to land anywhere, where you could fit your helo into. Learning to hover (without any 'helpers') is another thing, you should learn, and learn it well. It's really hard, especially on a desktop simulator, but once you get it, it'll always be with you. The only similar experience is a2a refueling. The key to landings and hovering (and refueling too, to some degree) is that, you should make a habit of moving stick by a very tiny amount at a time, while making a lot of moves (even a couple of moves per second). Avoid at all cost huge and long controls deflections! To make things a little bit easier, try to turn ON AP channels (at least pitch, bank and yaw) AND turn ON Flight Director. Learning to land and hover with hover autopilot will get you nowhere, for various reasons. Try not to overcontrol. For example, when you want helo to move sideways, tilt it a little, just enough to get it moving, then center controls and keep it moving with small "pushing" inputs. But when you want to stop the movement, use no more than half of the stick deflection, that you have used to begin the move in the first place. That way it's really easier to stop at the desired point, instead of moving in opposite way. Learning to control Ka-50 without any of the "blue buttons" (aside from being totally unrealistic) will be a lot, alot harder, but you'll learn a couple of things about it's dynamics (and generally about helicopter's dynamics), learn how to manage in a case of failure/battle damage and learn how to be a better sim-pilot (in terms of skills). That being said, co-axials are still easier to control than tail-rotored ;) I'll second to that, you have to look dead ahead and maintain control over a helo before anything else, because looking down in search for a helipad will get you crashed, until you'll proficient at what you're doing. TrackIR helps here a lot, a quick glance is all that is needed to keep reference on helipad. Both for landing and hovering, pick a distant characteristic feature of the landscape and remember it's spatial orientation regarding landing spot and your helicopter (exatly you helicopter's cockpit canopy frame - it's RL practice and at least for fixed-wings it's called 'projection of engine's cowling over a horizon'). Try to hold that feature at a constant point "over" the canopy frame and maneuver with as little rudder and collective use as possible. Also always hover and land with your nose pointed into the wind, the helo will stabilise itself thanks to weathervane effect. You'll get also a litle bit of additional lift, to make engines work less and further stabilise helo. In fact it's easier to learn those maneuvers with a small wind, than without wind at all. That's a couple of short instant-advices from me, just to help you tame the Black Beast :) But if you want to learn something about helicopters in general as well, I have some helo related training resources for you: http://www.dynamicflight.com/flight_maneuvers/ http://www.copters.com/pilot/maneuvers.html http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/docs/poh/ http://www.hovercontrol.com/ Read and practice, there is no other way ;) Also, you may want to at least try X-Plane demo with freeware MD-500 (by Brett Sumpter, Alex Gifford and by Ben Russell) or FS9 with freeware Bell 412 (by Jordan Moore). Good sims, fantastic birds and a lot of fun on its own, if you're really into helicopters. Also don't forget, that real pilots learn to fly in something cheap and easy, before they are allowed to try heavy and expensive military machines ;) Ka-50 is rather heavy for its size and, thanks to ED's outstanding work, you can really feel that mass under your controls. While in some cases this inertia is helpful, in others can make pilot's life harder.3 points

(Before I continue, may I recommend that this thread be moved to the Forum Administration Complaints Channel) I know this has been brought up before but thus far I haven't heard an answer that doesn't leave me more puzzled than I was before I asked. So I will ask again: Why take active threads and move them to the dozen little obscure subsections of the forum? I mean its not like this forum gets 10,000 posts a day. If it did then I could understand the need for heavy administration. But this forum is lucky to get 200 posts in a day and usually most of those posts are lumped into a single popular thread. So why not just let threads exist, thrive, or die on the General Discussion channel and users can use the search function to find particular topics of interest but still see what is most popular and pressing among other users. Moving an interesting thread almost always kills it because most people (me anyway) usually won't bother jumping over to continue the discussion. Look, I'm not asking for a change in the way moderators address inappropriate content--you guys do a fair job in that regard. And I know this isn't my forum and I know I have little if any right to make demands. I just ask that you consider the utility of such aggressive house cleaning.1 point

Simple, if im curious if there are any new MP missions out, i check the campaigns sections. If i got a bug i report it in bug section, also easier for ED to see what bugs are out there. Really, this house cleaning is very useful if you want certain info. For example i want info about building my own pit, if i do a search for it i get i don't know how many irrelevant topics/posts. If i just go straight to the game controllers / home cockpits section i got all threads there and see in the blink of an eye which are still active and there are probably also some useful sticky's to be found there. Also if you want a modd for the the cockpit glass you can do two things 1 search the whole forum for cockpit glass modd (i wish you luck, lots of it) 2 search the mods / add-ons section for cockpit glass, this will yield much more relevant topics/post. Don't forget that even though this forum may not get many posts a day, even posts of 2 or more years old can still be relevant, thus having things organized is very useful and im grateful to the moderators taking there time to keep things tidy. dang, to late1 point

Nah, don't worry. Next year, we'll do it either way, with Storm of War: Battle of Britain or DCS: A-10C . And, with two simulators winning the "Best of 2010" poll, this can only mean one thing: :notworthy:, then :drink:, and finally :drunk:! Ah, that would be sweet :thumbup:1 point

On the vertical axis, you have the vertical speed and on the horizontal axis you have the speed of the aircraft. The different curves corresponds to different altitudes :) The numbers you can figure out yourself  By the looks of it, the F-15 enjoys a slight advantage at low to medium altitude, while up high, the F-15 has better climb. All this is in the Subsonic arena...1 point

Yeah I'm aware of that Bivol. The activity in the English thread has been way higher during last days. Ok, I'm 50 % Russian but that doesn't count! :D1 point

Much thanks to everyone who replied. The glitch proved to be the targeting gate too wide as several of you suggested. Apparently I had gotten into the habit of making it wide as a visibility aid and then neglecting to re-size before locking. Apologies for taking up your time with a dumb problem like that. Best wishes, JH1 point

"At this time DCS: Black Shark has taken a lead in the Best Overall PC Game category. This has a few feathers ruffled, considering that the sim is up against the big guns such as Dragon Age: Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Please bear in mind that there were never any rules against postings on official game sites and the like. So encouraging a community to vote is fine. In fact, during the first round of voting several developers tweeted out the link." I love ruffling feathers!1 point

theGozr, you're kidding me, right? Some people are unbelievable... Luckly, they aren't a majority here. If you want it, keep flying the Su-25T then. Most folks will be happy to get a lock on you with their same crap FM planes, be sure. Hopefully, ED ignores such trolls and knows that the rest of the community is thankful for their hard work. ED IS working on new cockpits, advanced flight models and etc., but one plane at a time. Some call it... DCS. Sounds familiar? I know your time is very very precious, and you can't miss your stupid NFL game or whatever while waiting for a new title, but while you're just complaining about someone else's hardwork, there's a whole team spread around Europe and U.S. that is sweating working on various projects simultaneously. You see, they are: Adapting Lock On to the DCS world Working on DCS:A-10C Working on diverse military projects I know your wishes are more important than anything in the world, but for heaven's sake, keep your useless opinion to you instead. Eagle Dynamics won't do porked 3D and AFM just to do so, that wouldn't be professional. Instead, they're modelling it with care, paying attention to every single rivet, modelling flight as it really should be. If you can't wait and think it's all horrible and etc., then go play FSX and, instead of killing planes, "kill time" as some genious put in this forum. If you don't want to fly those boilers, then be patient and wait. In Eagle Dynamics we trust1 point

Well not All aircraft will remain with the scripted SFM and S= Simplified! So basically we will have what we did already by mixing FC and DCS files together with some tweaks from the devs. Seriously we should complain about the lack of realism and work on cockpits and SFM instead of AFM ( A= Advance ).. Many went back to FC and got bored really quickly with Black Shark and the non existent adversary, So i think the sales are going down so why not making a FC 2.0 by making some minor tweaks that were suppose to be on an update like the 1.3 and sale it as FC 2.0 but by keeping the same crap FM planes .. The only worthy to fly is the Su25T and this is for Years now.. Just a disappointment!!! again....1 point
