  1. I thought I would release the beta version of my airfield diagrams for DCSW as the charts are at the point where I need to print a copy and then work my way through the airfields to get the rest of the detail right. The radio frequencies, elevations, directions and measurements should be accurate with the mission editor the F10 view and the A10C's internal MAGVAR. I'll do the release as a separate thread to the design discussion to avoid the release getting lost in that thread. I'm working through tower placement and taxiway labelling in addition to points of interest however a lot of the Russian airfields dont have the taxiways labelled which complicates the matter, I'm thinking it may be worth waiting until the DCS release prior to revisiting this. I've also added references to the ADF's from the BS manual and if the interest is there I will release a Russian air force version with Metric measurements once the maps are finished. If anyone picks a bug or has some reference notes for the airfields let me know. UPDATE: Updated airfield name plus some error corrections For those of you printing this, I recommend printing in color to A5 directly, as the map lines blend better in color then gray-scale, however you can print 2 per page on A4/letter Airfield Diagrams.pdf

  2. So I just opened up the first mission in the new Campaign, and while reading the briefing I saw that 2nd Bde "BlackJack", 1st Cavalary Division was the friendly units, as with it's subbordinate Battalions! See I was a member of the "BlackJack"Brigade, specifically in 1-5 Cav "Black Knights", and part of D Troop (BRT), 9th Cavalry Regiment "Darkhorse". The BRT (Brigade Recon Troop) were the Recon Assets for the entire Brigade, and would generally be out in front or to the flanks running screens or doing other various missions. I spent most of my time in Iraq as a "Darkhorse", but spent alot of time as a "Black Knight" prior to going overseas. Thanks for the attention to detail and getting those units in there...It's be great to use "Darkhorse" Troops as a JTAC, Recon Element, or Forward element in contact, as that is how it really happened in the not so distant past. Either way...great product guys...Just Awesome!

  3. You could record a track and then render a avi from that and then pick the frames as you please. Rendering time might be long for huge resolutions, though.

  4. Using the following method you can print a two sided checklist booklet from the A-10C Manual that's about the size of a kneeboard: In the PDF Manual choose print Print Range - pages 591 - 621 In Page Scaling - choose Booklet Printing For Booklet Subset - choose Front Side Only Hit print to print on the first side of your booklet After that's done, click 'print' again Print Range - Pages 591 - 621 For Booklet Subset - choose Backside Only In Print Range select Reverse Pages Take the printed pages and add them to the print paper tray in the same order and on the same side they came out of the printer after printing the first side Staple or band and enjoy

  7. Oh depressed little piper, what are you for? You hang out so high, and have your own little switch. I move you down, and up and around, but still I think you really should do more.

  8. Here's a close up of the KC-10 PDI lights. They are called PDL on the KC-135. It's worth it to note that the PDL are controlled by boom position and not aircraft position. If the boom operator's technique is to follow the aircraft around with the boom then the PDL can help establish contact but otherwise is only useful for maintaining limits while in contact. Fore/aft position is on the right hand side, which is the throttle hand on most/all large USAF aircraft. Up/down is on the left side for the left hand on the yoke. Small jets are the other way around of course. Flashing lights indicate minor movement while solid indicates more significant movement. Off lights mean disconnect while flashing PDL+aircraft lighting means breakaway. This PDF gives good information about a lot of AAR. Pages of note are 4 and 9. http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcms/mediafiles/6ACABD83_1143_EC82_2EE2BBB48BDF8D3C.pdf

  9. Here's another option. I used an older landinggear panel from ebay (non original ofcouse :-) Removed the mechanism and used a saw to "trim" some of the pieces of it and bolted it on a prepared baseplate. No option currently for solenoid-held/blocked lever though. Cost in this case is less then 100$ (not counting the solenoid held anti-skid switch missing in the pics below) Nothing wired yet and havn't descided yet if to risk bending the lever. http://www.strandedduckling.com/LNDGPNL_3.jpg http://www.strandedduckling.com/LNDGPNL_2.jpg http://www.strandedduckling.com/LNDGPNL_1.jpg cheers Gus edit: Missed a pic http://www.strandedduckling.com/LNDGPNL_4.jpg

  11. I can bet that 90% of the people with unmodded cougars don't fly very hard also. Flying a unmodded cougar in a dogfight is next to impossible or very hard. It would probably be better to use your keyboard instead. Yes they might have sold 40,000 of them, but how many were put in storage soon after the spiking and other problems arose? I'm not bashing the cougar, I have one now. But how many people have switched over from the cougar?

  13. Hmmm, very odd indeed. Unfortunately I'm not a professional programmer, so my knowledge of what might be causing the problem is limited, especially when it's only one person experiencing the problem! I'll send you a PM to see if I can supply a solution.

  14. Using pdftotext and a diffing tool, I've listed some of the major differences between the beta 1 and beta 2 manuals: Introduction, features list - Removed feature: Online achievement tracking, dynamic campaign, and chat rooms Stores: Added description of the CBU-97 Stores: Discussion of bang-bang guidance Stores: Added description of CBU-105 China hat aft long in AIM-9 mode: Slaves AIM-9 to TGP TISL panel: Added note saying it is not implemented in the sim. Analog altimeter: ELECT/PNEU switch relabeled as functional KY-58: Correct description for RV mode IFF panel: Relabeled as not implemented in the sim. Short explanation of what DTSAS is ... and what a bitball is :) Expanded digital 9-line explanation Increased number of fundamental forces of flight from three to four; give a warm welcome to gravity Explanation of why airbrakes should be half open during landing, and how to use the AOA indexer during landing Added explanation of FLAPS indicator on MAV page Added explanation that slewing the Mav cursors destabilizes them (don't we all know...) Radios - Now explains an "easy tuning" and "realistic" mode for the radios. Easy tuning has the auto-tuning, frequency list, and color coding; realistic does not. Completely rewrote and expanded JTAC explanation Expanded electrical system description Added morse code for punctuation in reference

  16. Ey @ntonis, Once you figure out how to trim, please take a look at this post in my blog: http://kriegsimulation.blogspot.com/2010/10/dcs-10c-warthog-angle-of-attack-watch_24.html Let me know what you think. Cheers,

  17. Strange, my experience is very different. With brain bucket or noise canceling headsets I could hear details even in noisy CH-46 and Apache. A pal tells the story about hearing a cavitating hydraulic pump at the 180 just before a trap in an A6. Now days he and I often fly a C-45H together and even with noise cnxing headsets we can hear boost pumps, gear and flap motors. But maybe after 40+ years in the saddle we're just imagining it, so you may be right.

  19. Bother! I finished my first pass of the airfields and then Beta 2 came out, so I decided against going back through to check if any extra taxiway markings were added to avoid having to do it each beta, with the intent of doing it again at the final product. That in mind I only fired beta 2 up enough to check it installed last night. If theres a new field though I will pick that up and possibly do a single page release for it in the mean time.

  20. UPDATE: INTERIM RELEASE New version on post 1. This version represents the changes discussed in the thread and includes regional airports. It will also serve as my interim release through to the final release of DCSW. I am fairly happy its accurate now in terms of object placement so if you see a problem call it out. Once the final product is out I will do a further update to incorporate improvements added to the airfields.

  21. Thats sorta what I meant. Their in-game performance is identical, but the number of uses is a massive difference, yet statistically they are identical within a margin of error. I'm sure if Case implemented Time of Flight and other stats they would be similar in that regard to.

  26. These are some numbers on air-to-air missile usage I accumulated on the 51st server during August, September and October 2010. Shown here are the percentages of the missiles that killed (blue), hit (green) or missed (red) their target. At the right it shows how many missiles of each type were fired. During this three month period over 20000 air-to-air missiles were fired. This is an update of the plot I showed earlier, but now using much more data. In general, I think one can conclude the following: R-73's are the best air-to-air missiles, having over 50% chance of hitting their target, and about a 1 in 3 chance of killing it. Of the long-range radar missiles, they are ordered: R-77, AIM-120C, AIM-120B, AIM-7, R-27ER, R-27EM (note the small numbers on AIM-7 though). AIM-120C's are only slightly better than AIM-120B's. AIM-7's are most lethal when hitting. R-27ER's are the same as R-27EM's.

  27. View.Lua file Should look like this! It was changed in Beta I think! Camera view angle limits {view angle min, view angle max}. CameraViewAngleLimits = {} CameraViewAngleLimits[su_27] = {20.0, 120.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[su_33] = {20.0, 120.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[su_25] = {20.0, 120.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[su_25T] = {20.0, 120.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[MiG_29] = {20.0, 120.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[MIG_29K] = {20.0, 120.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[F_15] = {20.0, 140.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[A_10A] = {20.0, 140.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[KA_50] = {20.0, 120.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[A_10C] = {20.0, 120.0} c:\......\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A10c Beta\Config\view Had the same problem! Just change the A10 line back to the default of {20.0, 120.0} Granted any track or what not you saved in the fish eye will stay that way. Track records all settings at time of play!

  29. OK By way of update for those of you following, the red pen update for the charts was finished last night, all towers are identified and hopefully all POL and ammo depots that are on the maps are now identified in hard copy. I have also got the updated taxiway map for Senaki, Tbilsi, Sukhumi and Nellis. Theres also a typo in the current Tbilsi diagram with the directions reversed and one chart showing a 1000m 'measuring' line still that should be gone. A couple of the new airfields feel incomplete, Groom in particular, but Tbilisi is an awesome FSX style accomplisment that you just want to operate out of. I'm planning a third release of these once the final product is out, but my next update should be fairly accurate. Of course I got up this morning to find BETA 2 was out so thats downloading now and after a quick review I will get the updates added and hopefully out before the weekend.

  32. Anything over 4Gb is useless unless you are running an i7. Right now, the i7 is the only chip that can handle tri-channel memory. Which means matched 2Gbx3 sticks. If you try to use that setup with any other chip, you will see a reduction in speed and timing. For every other chip out there, the best setup for gaming performance is a matched set 2Gbx2 dual-channel. Obviously, what i'm talking about here is for gaming purposes only. If you run engineering or A/V programs and you are constantly overrunning your page file, then more than 4Gb is going to help you. Another side note: Don't mix and match ram in your system. Only use sticks that are exactly the same and from the same company. A set of matched sticks will always outperform a set of mis-matched sticks.
