**UPDATE** Voiceover volume level fixed! In this tutorial, I go over the HSI, TACAN navigation, and the ILS. Some of it is repetative from my TACAN tutorial, but thought I would include it all in one video.6 points

I'm pleased to announce that my app has been approved and is now available for free download on the apple iTunes app store. Just search for iWarthog in the store. It is simply a companion to DCS A-10 that features: -Interactive checklist from the DCS flight manual -Emergency procedures from the DCS flight manual -Comprehensive Mission Data Card that allows users to create/edit/delete information for separate missions -Zoomable Airbase PDF diagrams -And a reproduction of the UI "Encyclopedia" (with all aircraft metric information converted to US measurements for us that are behind the curve in the states! ;) ) I hope the community finds some use for it and it helps in some way to improve your simming experience. Also would like to thank ED for letting me use their info in my app, as well as Shu77 for his airport diagrams, and WarriorX for his mission card ideas. This is my first "released" iPhone app, so I'm open to all kinds of feedback. If there's something you think I should add/delete/modify, please let me know and I'll see if I can make the changes for future updates. Also, if there is enough demand, I'll port it over to the iPad and make it even better for the larger screen interface. One last note. I have dedicated a lot of my time and effort into this app and released it for free. If you like it and want to donate a small something, here's my support page with a pay paypal link: http://dcsa-10iphoneapp.blogspot.com/2011/06/iphone-app-is-alive-on-itunes-store.html Thanks everyone and enjoy! -sickdog1 point

I posted a question about getting a Tutorial about the whole subject of JTAC on the Training Missions Thread but got no response so I am asking here. Is there ever going to be more ingame Training Tutorials? I have read the manual on JTAC, TAD setups, hooking etc and I just don't get it. I have been an avid flight simmer since the 1980 going back to the Comadore 64 so I have followed the development of flight sim complexity. Up until now I have always found resources within the structure of the game to figure out how everything works but this sim has so many sub-structures that just are not well explained in the manual...In fact the manual makes too many assumptions about the readers understanding. The JTAC proceedure is not set out in a step by step manner anywhere that I can find within the Manual and I think that there should be a Tutorial produced by ED explaining the step by step process. I have searched the ED forums and not found a comprehensive explaination of how to sucessfully use JTAC. I have also searched Youtube for video. I have found some useful info but not enough for me to master this subject. Any resource help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance1 point

A torrent is a peer-to-peer technology. You can find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrent_file You need a bittorrent client to download it. The torrent itself is a small file, but you "connect" to other people. What basically happens is that a pc downloads a packet of data, and that data is uploaded to other users, who in turn upload that same packet of data to other users. (see link for more info) Why it isn't the only choice: some countries have "banned" torrents, because it is thought that they are linked to piracy. It is true torrents are used a lot by internetpirates, but not all. Which is a shame as it's quite a fast technology.1 point

On the WP screen of the CDU, press the right FSK button with a number and question mark by it.. something like 1? or 4? (3rd one down from memory) This will copy the previous waypoint effectively giving you a new waypoint to write. Do this before entering the coordinates. This is the step you are missing.1 point

Hey Rocky49, I initially did not understand JTAC procedures, but figured it out. At first it seems more complex than it really is. The manual is actually pretty clear on the flow of events and the built-in radio comms sequence pretty much does the leg work for you. Maybe try posting some specific questions about what you do not grasp?1 point

You can learn alot watching Dragons videos on JTAC. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 I also found zAmbOni's Devil's Cross campain missions very helpful, he has 5 posted so far. All of these videos are over an hour long of unedited raw video, I linked one below, im sure you can find the rest if you like them. DCS A-10C: Warthog - Devil's Cross 01A1 point

Yes, and that envelope is the altitude. The MiG can turn better than (with the normal engine power) F-18C below 8-9000 meters. Above its engines give less power and the F-16 also turns better.1 point

Great Idea but really I think ED should run a TS server and have a few Offical game Servers running like EA do for battlefield games. It would give more incentive to play online and promote the games longevity. It wouldn't cost them that much and other companies do it. Just a thought.1 point

+1 GG We can compare Arma and DCS simply Arma have great details of littles objects, like in a classic fps, but take a plane in arma, and you see you have a circle of view around you, you have not a great visibility like in DCS. DCS have clickable cockpit and realistic physics rules, for Arma3 i think this is the same as the 2, two click for start up, one click for lock, one click for shoot :D In Arma you have not an accurate damage model, let see for the 3 but... Arma as not the focus to be a flight simmulator, an infantry one, maybe yes, but with simple system for vehicles, for everybody can use it!1 point

You still don't know what you're talking about :) It's 'easy' to have plenty of performance if you only need a draw-distance of 2km. Not to mention it lacks flight physics.1 point

I don't believe the Mav sends a signal back to the targeting aircraft. The Targeting pod is your best bet as it can be used to get a view of the target at Time of impact, personally I use the missile vies (F5 or F6) and watch the missile ride in.1 point

The 'senior' moments and the volume of information gets to me as well sometimes. Plus I have a lazy/OCD streak that makes me look for easy ways for most things. Anyway, my two cents: First, you have two functions MAV Lock and TGP Point/Area Track that use the same switch, and if you look at them sideways they do the same thing for two vaguely similar systems (one just doesn't fly off and go boom). One less command. Next Slave All to SPI will also perform the Slave TGP to Steerpoint function if your SPI is the steerpoint (which it frequently will be). Those are fore and aft on the same switch where forward slaves everything and aft just slaves the TGP. In most cases (it seems to my limited experience) that slave all will suffice for many situations. One less command. Also C is for camera which is what you are moving (sort of, not always but) and C is for China Hat. MAV Ground Stabilize is TMS (remember T is for Target) down/aft is for (pulling it to) Ground. Make SPI, this is the same for every Sensor Of Interest. TMS FWD Long is like pointing (stabbing the map with your finger) at the (T is for) target. Plus you will use this one so much that it will just become muscle memory in no time. EDIT: --I know some of that is a stretch. Some one else probably answered better while I typed this anyway. I hope this helps, if not, sorry, my mind works in mysterious and convoluted ways most of the time.;)1 point

REMINDER: BACK UP ALL FILES BEFORE YOU TOUCH THEM. 1) Unlock the maximum string length: within ...Games\DCS A-10C\Scripts\UI\CommandMenu.lua, search for and change local menuItemMaxLength from 26 to 100; this is the cutoff length where it uses (...) 2) Change the radio dialog size within ...Games\DCS A-10C\FUI\Resources\Radio\menu.res, make the two changes highlighted in red (reduce existing number by 300, this will extend the dialog left by 300 pixels).1 point

Got it to work thanks to what slackerD said. Assuming you've got a fresh 1.1.0.8 install: This might not work if you're using an old "unitPayloads.lua" you copied from 1.1.0.7. (Remember, Do backups and don't use the default MS notepad to edit the .Lua files!) Create your payloads in the mission editor and save it. Exit the game and copy the unitPayloads.lua from "C:\Users\"username"\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\MissionEditor" to "C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\MissionEditor\data\scripts" just like before. Open the file and (*) search for the name of your payload. At the end of the coding for your payload (just before the line where the next payload starts with "unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][32] = {}" ) Type (or copy-paste): unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][XX][XX]["category"] = "Show" Replace the X's with the numbers that your payload has (each payload has its own set of unique numbers) For example my payload had the numbers [31][51], yours might not be the same but just look at the rows above to see what numbers yours has. I've put all my custom payloads into the category "Show" because theres only one payload in there by default so theres plenty of space. If you want to have your payload in some other category just replace the word Show with the name corresponding to your category of choice. If you have created more than one custom payload go back up to the asterisk (*) and start over again with the next payload, until you've done all your payloads. Save the file and test ingame. Heres what my complete custom payload looks like in the file: unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["name"] = "Show - AGM-65D*4,GBU-12*6,CBU-97*2,M-257,TGP,ECM,AIM-9" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][1] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][1]["launcherCLSID"] = "{DB434044-F5D0-4F1F-9BA9-B73027E18DD3}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][1]["num"] = 11 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][2] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][2]["launcherCLSID"] = "{A111396E-D3E8-4b9c-8AC9-2432489304D5}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][2]["num"] = 10 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][3] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][3]["launcherCLSID"] = "{E6A6262A-CA08-4B3D-B030-E1A993B98453}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][3]["num"] = 9 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][4] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][4]["launcherCLSID"] = "{E6A6262A-CA08-4B3D-B030-E1A993B98452}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][4]["num"] = 3 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][5] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][5]["launcherCLSID"] = "BRU-42_3*GBU-12" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][5]["num"] = 4 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][6] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][6]["launcherCLSID"] = "BRU-42_3*GBU-12" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][6]["num"] = 8 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][7] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][7]["launcherCLSID"] = "{5335D97A-35A5-4643-9D9B-026C75961E52}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][7]["num"] = 7 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][8] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][8]["launcherCLSID"] = "{5335D97A-35A5-4643-9D9B-026C75961E52}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][8]["num"] = 5 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][9] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][9]["launcherCLSID"] = "{6D21ECEA-F85B-4E8D-9D51-31DC9B8AA4EF}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][9]["num"] = 1 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][10] = {} unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][10]["launcherCLSID"] = "{647C5F26-BDD1-41e6-A371-8DE1E4CC0E94}" unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["pylons"][10]["num"] = 2 unitPayloads["A-10C"]["tasks"][31][51]["category"] = "Show"1 point

Hi Red, Haven't read all the previous pages of your thread yet (sorry, I will!), so I don't know if you have said that you already know how to do this. I have designed both a synchro-to-digital and a digital-to-synchro converter with USB connection. Due to limited spare time I cannot make them for sale, but I would be more than happy to share my experiences. Just ask if you need any help with the controlling of the ADI, or any other synchro-based instruments. I guess that the D/S-converter is the only thing you need. And maybe one more 400 Hz phase for the two-phase AC motors that may be inside, if you don't want to fake it with a capacitor :) Keep up the amazing work! Niclas1 point

Mmmm... I have seen many a windscreen and a couple dozen canopy changes, with 90% of them due to crazing...so I wouldn't say that is true. Once a canopy starts to craze, it's usually only a matter of time. They don't get any better, only worse. It also depends on where it starts, a pilot has the ability to call it a safety of flight issue and then it kind of doesn't matter what the books say. Places out infront of the HUD and around the canopy bows where they have to use while on the boom are usually quick kills.1 point
