Military Assets for DCS by Currenthill
currenthill replied to currenthill's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
It's in the download link on my site. Most asset packs have incremental fix update, that's because if I fix small things you guys won't have to download all the GBs again. -

Thanks! Download the incremental update, unpack and overwrite. It’ll fix the missiles. -

Haha, thanks for the info! If they actively supported modding (it's known to happen in the real world), maybe there would be less issues for users to complain about? And pointing towards imbalances in gameplay doesn't really make sense looking at the core game inventory. Maybe it's just me, but I've always had a hard time listening to game developers telling me how I should play the games I buy. Especially sandbox based games. -

Thank you, I'd lie if I didn't say I'm a bit exhausted from all the troubleshooting. 1. I'm aware of this issue, I think I can fix this in the next release. 2. I plan to add the Buk M3 with the next Russian pack update. Haven't decided what else, but there are more assets coming. -

My excellent tester just found another issue that needs attention. And it'll probably affect a lot of my assets. It's part of the DCS core changes of how and when a ground asset will spot and engage a target, especially the ones without radars. This will most likely take a lot of time to correct. -

Very close. Nowadays I spend 50% of my time troubleshooting issues caused by ED updates. It takes more or less all the time between two updates, so it's never ending. -

Correct. I try to make sure all my filenames, variables, names etc are unique. But the Karakurt was an early asset. So there might be some earlier exceptions. -

No worries! Unfortunately the THAAD issue and the LTAMDS issue were two totally separated issues. The LTAMDS was an easy fix since it only required a parameter change. The THAAD issue on the other hand is most likely caused by something in the DCS core, which I cannot change in any way. That's why I reproduced the issue with core assets (the DCS core Patriot system) and reported it to ED. We can now only wait for ED to investigate and fix the issue. Until it is fixed you'll just have to make sure your THAAD site isn't attacked by more than 15 incoming threats. Here is my bug report: -

There is only so much I can do to implement the advanced weaponry. At the moment I'm happy that I even got the YJ-21 working after the last update. Until ED releases information of how to create ballistic missiles there isn't much I can do to improve it. With the DF21, make sure it has a clear and unobstructed view towards the target. That's also a workaround based on what's possible for modders in DCS. -

Yep, as the smoke seem to be the issue, it's a DCS core issue. It looks like issue only appears in the single thread version while the MT version doesn't experience it. But instead you get the extremely heavy smoke effect. -
I've come across some new strange behavior when it comes to ground unit radars, and I think it's all across the field. When a SAM system and its radar are facing a certain number of incoming threats (missiles or aircraft) it will either not launch or launch a lot of missiles which then detonates after launch, the behavior becomes very irrational and obvious faulty. But, if you reduce the incoming threat number to just one threat below the threshold value the SAM will work just as intended. I've checked several in game systems like the Patriot and S300 (as well as my own assets of course). The same behavior. The only thing that differs are the threshold number of max incoming threats it can handle. And I can't seem to figure out what is controlling that. You might think it's the amount of radar channels, but that's not the case. I have two very clean mission files with a Patriot system and incoming targets. The first one with the max amount of threats to function perfect, and the other one with just one more threat and it stops working completely. This seem to be some sort of core game mechanics not working as intended as the issue can be spotted in more or less every SAM system with a radar. The difference is that the behavior can be more or less irrational depending on the units configuration. Edit: I should mention that the issue only seem to affect weapons guided by the launching asset (like SARH, TVC or laser guided) it doesn't seem to affect ARH based weapons. SAM radar issues - not working.miz SAM radar issues - working.miz

AIM-174B for F/A-18C 1.1.0 released! On popular demand I chose to release the AIM-174B (air launched version of the SM-6 Block Ia without the MK72 booster) for the F/A-18C. It's nothing fancy, it was made to be used with the player controlled Hornet, but will of course be limited by its radar performance. It will replace your AIM-120B and will break IC. Credits Thanks to ED for the F/A-18C and its configuration files. Installation Unpack files in the main DCS program folder (not your DCS Saved Games folder) and overwrite. I recommend using OvGME as it allows for easy installation and uninstallation of the mod. Distribution model It's available for download on my site. And as usual, please don't redistribute it! Disclaimer This was just a quick side project and I won't spend time supporting it, feel free to play around with the missile configuration to tune its performance. -
Yep, the only thing you can do at the moment is enable/disable and position it. Size doesn't work, presets doesn't work. So I will have it disabled for new ships, can't have the modern ships looking like the Kuznetsov.

Interesting coincidence. I was just working on this. And so far I’ve only come to the same conclusion as you. Only the positioning can be changed as of now.

Hey! It was me that made the AIM-174B used by GS and Longshot. It was made specifically for the player controlled F/A-18C, so it doesn't pass IC. That's why I haven't released it. -

Wow, you managed to disregard or misunderstand my post completely. Didn't I already say I completely understand the DCS T&C and EDs reasoning behind it, even if I don't agree with it myself? But you still seem to think the mesh is the mod. To humor you, I can tell you that the (common) license T&C I mentioned as an example in my post doesn't require me to mention the creator of the native editable mesh file. In the case I use a mesh with Creative Commons license type, I credit the author as by the license type in the README. Just like ED does when they use open source software. I even think I've credited you for some liveries. And what's up with the straw man about me naming a model? I've never said I create my meshes myself, it's even spelled out in my FAQ on my site. We should be more interested in how the modding possibilities of DCS are steadily declining. A couple of posts earlier I mentioned that even the weapon schemes are now encrypted. I just want to have the tools to make the best DCS mods possible. Well, it's been a pleasure, but I have to continue working on my assets now. -

Did you even read what I wrote? Not this again, we've had this conversation before. You seem astonishing immune to the information I give you every time you bring this up. You still seem to be under the impression that my mods are purchased 3D models which I release. I know you understand this better than this, so why play this game? But okay, I'll describe it for anyone else reading this. The models you purchase comes in an editable format (for example Blender, Max or FBX), they sometimes come with textures (which I rarely use), sometimes with UVs, but never with animations, code, sounds, collision models, destroyed models, documentation, testing etc which are needed for a well working asset. When I'm done with the mesh, adding the UVs, materials, textures, animations, connectors etc I export it to EDs proprietary EDM format. A format that doesn't allow editing without reverse engineering (which by EDs T&C is forbidden). For example, if you buy a 3D model from CGTrader, they will most likely come with what they call a Royalty free license. Here is how they describe the license T&C: "Royalty Free License allows you to use the product without the need to pay royalties or other license fees for multiple uses, per volume sold, or some time period of use or sales. You can use it as long as it is incorporated into the product and the 3rd party cannot retrieve it individually in either the digital or physical form. You cannot resell the model you bought in the digital or printed form, but can use it in your commercial projects multiple times after paying for it just once." "21A.2. The Buyer’s license to Product in this paragraph is strictly limited to Incorporated Product. Any use or republication, including sale or distribution of Product that is not Incorporated Product is strictly prohibited. For illustration, approved distribution or use of Product as Incorporated Product includes, but is not limited to: - as rendered still images or moving images; resold as part of a feature film, broadcast, or stock photography; - as purchased by a game’s creators as part of a game if the Product is contained inside a proprietary format and displays inside the game during play, but not for users to re-package as goods distributed or sold inside a virtual world;" "21A.3. If you use any Product in software products (such as video games, simulations, or VR-worlds) you must take all commercially reasonable measures to prevent the end user from gaining access to the Product. Methods of safeguarding the Product include but are not limited to: - using a proprietary disc format such as Xbox 360, Playstation 3, etc.; - using a proprietary Product format; - using a proprietary and/or password protected database or resource file that stores the Product data; - encrypting the Product data." You see, you need to separate Product from Incorporated Product. One can use the EDM without any issues, but one cannot redistribute or transfer the native editable model file. In the case of ED (as I mentioned in my earlier post), they have decided that they want to own the native editable model file, so that they can maintain it over time. If a third party would create models (like Massun or the Deka Chinese Pack) they could sell/transfer the native editable model file to ED because they own it. Let me reiterate - I know the EDs DCS T&C very well (Edit: It's actually TFC Ltd and not ED), and I know their requirements, that doesn't mean they're perfect. They can be changed in an instant if that's what they want. Believe me, I've written hundreds of contracts where IPR is a crucial part. That's why I commented on you calling it stupid talk. Does this make sense to you?
