  1. wow that loooks like areal mission! How long do you think one needs to fly in order to get the best out of it? Is there a clear achievement that make you realize that you did win it or not? thanks Speed, that is great!
  2. Hey Bodo, I missed that post... I am a professional musician. Your music is quite interesting and well made! Lots of different athmospheres and emotions. Bravo! (you will get a high one day if you can do the same with real instruments!) Jean-Francois
  3. Hi! Conure, Without sounding too philosophical, I really believe that the result is not that important and what counts most (at least in most aspects of life and especially learning) is the process itself... With a sim like this, the best of all is the immersion and learning how to do things repeatedly is part of the immersion (which is actually a very personal thing... some people get a tremendous immersion from reading a romance novel and others playing an fps shooter... but in the long run, they are both looking for the same thing : immersion, something that transports us in the realm of imagination). I, just like you, like very much to practice ILS approch and playing around with CDU pages, setting up training ranges and playing around with small parameters, until it is perfet... it makes me feel part of the DCS world. I guess this is also a bit manic perfectionism, ah well, this I cant hide... cheers Jean-Francois
  4. Hey Paulrkiii Thanks a lot!
  5. Paul Thanks for the glimpse of the real manual, this is very instructive! Do you think that similarly, you could paste the checlist for the startup, taxi, lineup and takeoff for our instruction? That would be really awesome! Many thanks! Jean-Francois
  6. more old posts that might be of use or not : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=339009&postcount=11 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=339129&postcount=12 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=340384&postcount=16 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=340548&postcount=19 But I do repeat, THOSE NUMBERS ARE NOT TAKEN FROM DCS A-10C (NEITHER BS) but from 2007 Lockon. THEY MIGHT NOT BE ACCURATE NOW. But just as an example of what took hours to experiment... JF
  7. Actually this is a very very good point. This kind of info has always been kind of missing since Lockon times. In the encyclopedia, there are some numbers, but never really practical info about many units. For example, what is the minimum distance to use MLRS, what is the maximum range of all artys (Russian, US, etc.), what is the detection range of the different radars, range of guns on different ships, etc... Back in 2007, we had quite a good exchange on that topic in the forum, with Brit Radar Dude. Look at this post : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=338969&postcount=9 and this one : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=338993&postcount=10 Of course, the numbers might not work anymore, since they are not totally exact according to real life but rather numbers decided by our dear DCS designers. They might have change some or tweaked some. For mission designing purpose, one of my dearest whish would be to have well organized tables with all those numbers, distances, number of rounds, reload times, minimum range, maximum range, etc. for all units (I know some are there in the encyclopedia, but I suspect some of those numbers to be actually the real life numbers and not really the AI behavior tables...). Dear DEVS, do you think you couls supply us with these? I, for my part, dont have the (very lengthy) time it had taken to do all these experiment back in 2007... (too much work, less time to fly, kids.. life...) thanks Jean-Francois
  8. Just a few airfields have ILS operational.
  9. I believe Birdy did his excellent Timetable at the time by sheer patience and observation. You will have to fire up the game and look for the trains with F11 view. Once you find one, you can follow it and jot down the schedule. It must have been quite a tedious task and I remember that it was awesome, you are right. Funny how far we (this community and ED's products) have come since the initial release of LOCKON... I remember dreaming about the future sim when initial info was release about upcoming incredible new sim LOCKON... It took so much time before it came to us. And what is neet is that all the progress and enhancements that have been put subsequently into LOFC, LOFC2, BS, and now A-10C, are all included in the present state of DCS A-10C... Cheers! JF
  10. Yeah Cichlid (I love fish too! and I have had many cichlid a long time ago...) These lines seem leftover from what was removed... JF
  11. Thanks for the replies... Frederf, it doesnt seem to be working... I tried to do what you suggest and it didnt work. By the way it is the reverse of what is stated p. 319 of the manual, here it is : Tasking targets to other SADL Aircraft. In addition to receiving Target Assignments from JTAC and other SADL-equipped aircraft, you can also assign targets to other SADL-equipped aircraft. This is done through a combination of using the SPI and active hooking. To create a Target Assignment:  Actively hook the SADL-equipped aircraft you wish to send the Target Assignment to and press the SEND OSB. Upon doing so, the network identification (XX-XX) of the hooked aircraft appears below the SEND label.  Set the SPI to the location of the TAD symbol that you wish to assign as the target. You do not need to be broadcasting SPI to do this. This will set the target location and be visible on the recipient aircraft’s TAD.  With the recipient and target set, press the SEND OSB a second time to send the Target Assignment. Now here is the scenario for the enclosed track file SADL not working.trk : I am HAWG11 heading for a trio of trucks, on a small penninsulae and there is another A-10C, different flight ENFIELD11, headed away from this situation. I figured that if my request to tasking it to attack my SPI is going to work, I will see it turn back towards the trucks. I fly towards it and bring up my TGP, slew around to find the trucks and once they are locked, I make them SPI. In my TAD, I try both ways, hooking the SPI first and then the ENFIELD A-10C and, yes, there is a Network indication that appears below the SEND button. I press SEND but nothing happens... I tried the other way around, pressing SEND after hooking the ENFIELD A-10 and then hooking my SPI, but there is no DATA that appears below the word SEND when I do this in second??? Is there something I am doing wrong, or is it a BUG??? thanks JF
  12. Please, can anyone explain how '' taskin targets to other SADL aircraft'' works? or perhaps that is part of what was removed??? I still see in the current manual, p 319 : hostile units : the following info is displayed when you hook a hostile unit.. ?? what kind of hostile unit can you see and hook on the TAD??? Another question : where in the ME do we set the GROUP ID?? or is it something that has to be done in the air, in the MFCD only? thanks JF
  13. Thanks Firefox, You made me realize something that I dont think is clear in the documentation : IF ONE ASKS FOR A RACETRACK ORBIT, IT WILL RACETRACK BETWEEN THIS VERY WAYPOINT AND THE NEXT whereas WHEN ONE ASKS FOR A CIRCULAR ORIT, IT DOES IT AUTOMATICALLY AT THE WAYPOINT IN QUESTION.... Since my next waypoint was far away, I always assumed that my AI was NOT making the orbit... thanks JF
  14. Hk guys, I am still trying to figure out a few things about the ME and for some reason, I fail often to make an AC to ORBIT ?? I make several WPs and to one of them I go to the advanced WP actions tab/ADD/PERFORM TASK : with the following setup : ORBIT number 1 (enable) (NOW WHAT DOES THAT NUMBER MEANS???) no conditions race-track appropriate speed and alt and, unfortunately, the aircraft DOES NOT ORBIT... What am I missing? (I tried also giving a START conditions of random 100%, but no better) Another question: in the CONDITIONS windows, what does mean the IS USER, NUMBER and TICK MARK on the right ??? is this for FLAGS? Finally, if I want to give a condition to stop orbiting (the day I will be able to make them orbit:(), the way DRAGON explained it how should I word it ? He says : 'add a property to WP 2' and he words it 'flag 1 is false' ?? should it be 'flag is false (1)' or 'flag #1 is false' or what??? thanks JF
  15. HAHAHAHA! Great post. I really think that this is the best sense of humor in the world! Thanks And , more seriously, I also agree with you about the variables : I love to delve in a simulation of something that has all the little details right, like you said about russian instruments and now, US instruments being different. And I certainly played a lot of LOFC with the ME in metric and the cockpit in russian, where now, I like to play A-10C with imperial measurements... My only little point was about consistency throughout the different functions of ONE particular Mission Editor (DCS A-10C) that has both systems mixed up in a non logical way. Thanks again for that great post! JF (P.S. I am a frog from Montreal and I speak french as my native tongue, but I really think british humour is the best!)
  16. By the way, I just realize that this thread has been put into the WISHLIST sub-forum and I think it is wrong : it describe an inconsistency (which may probably be easy to correct) in the game between units of measurements, and this is more of a sort of bug than something to wish for, no? thanks
  17. wow... Since I started that thread, I might as well give my little word here... I never thought that this would become a religous thread.:music_whistling: My only concern, when starting this thread, was about concistency in the simulator, in order to get the same system of measurement in all aspects of the game when one particular system is chosen in the options. My claim is that it is difficult to work in the ME if distance is measured with feet and winds with meters per seconds, for example. If one likes better one system or the other is totally irrelevant here... The fact is that the Hog's dials and gauges are in imperial, therefore it is preferable to work in imperial system to operate it. My thread was more intended as a bug report rather than the beginning of a crusade where Knights of the Foot fight against Lords of the Meter.
  18. Hi! Overpro, Thanks, but I know that... My question is : how can my wingman know how to attack at my spi if I dont broadcast it? (and this is what happens in the game...) JEFX
  19. stopit edited (RELATE TO EACH OTHER) : And you little boys can still think wihat you want, it still works like this :)
  20. I agree Bucic, I meant a great detailed function!
  21. :cry:shit... sorry I meant RELATE and mistyped
  22. sorry Nemises I was typing while you answered me. thanks!
  23. actually, I just tried... start up in the air with a pressure that is not standard (because of my cylconic weather experiment, with quite a high pressure,) Started up over the sea and while my RADAR ALT gave me a couple of hundred feet above water, the HUD NORMAL ALTIMETER was giving me -500 feet ???????????? I then played around with the knob on the analog altimeter until radar alt and normal hud alt were the same... I gues, that is what we need to get from ATC before landing!!! anyway around it, or will it be fixed (ATC) in further patches? I would love to have an ATC more interactive, wih accurate wind and pressure readings, with vectors to line up to the IAF, with possible emergency landing procedure (which are quite frequent considering how I get beat up in some batlles...) etc...
  24. Thanks effe, very clear explanation! So when taking off, we can adjust the altimeter with the current known altitude, fine. But upon return, when we call INBOUND, there is no way to know the pressure to dial in for correct altimeter ? How does our HUD altitude relates to those changes? Do we get HUD altitude in relation to the pressure that we dial in the analog altimeter (I guess not?)
  25. I made an experiment with dynamic weather and the CDU : O found something great: I made a dynamic weather system where there are all sorts of different wind intensity and directions (symbolised by those funny little music notes...) I made a simple flight from a point where the little music note has only half a stem, straight to where it has 3 stems (32nd notes for musicians...) And when flying with accelerated time, I dialed in the CDU page with STP where you can see the winds and it gave me a steady increase from an initial 3 kts to a 16 kts at the end... And the wind direction changed gradually from 269 to 315, which is exactly the direction of the long stems of the music notes in the ME! Brilliant! That means that the CDU is really giving us the actual wind bearing and speed for real!!! another littl great realism detail!
