Very possible. It's not really a problem, I was just curious. The F/A-18 slick is alike an entirely different plane. I'm not sure it's even inferior to the F-16 speed-wise. Anyway, thanks!

The DCS F/A-18 is a huge chunk of awesomeness and I challenge anyone that says otherwise to a duel.

The ships are incredible. They fully defend themselves as well as lob Tomahawk missles wherever you direct them. IF anyone has not yet created a red/blue Naval battle group and had them go at each other from 50nm away, while cruising toward each other, I would highly recommend it. There are 50+ missles in play and nary a single frame/second loss. Pretty kickass damage model too onseveral of the ships. Am I the only one that creates scenarios just to watch sometimes? There's also a Chinese sub that dives, attacks, and defends itself. I think it's the 093. I like CA a lot. Most of the armored vehicles work quite well.

Oh sorry, I wasn't complaining, everything worked properly. They were literally narrowly missed by a barrage of artillery and I just thought it was cool ... and very lucky. I mean, skillful on my part

1) Start mission in air, flying over Guam with 3 Wingmen at 2,000 feet, 100% fuel, jets slick (I was doing a Blue Angels routine). All wingmen configured same as lead. 2) Set altitude hold 3) Thottle to the metal (100%) 4) You start growing the lead in front of your wingman and cruise in A/B at 730-750kts while your wingmen, also in full A/B, settle in around 640kts Basically, my top speed is about 100kts faster than my wingmen AI. I've reproduced this a few times. Anybody else seeing this?

Really? I had no idea it was that easy. I'm going to give it a try. Thank you! Oh yeah, I've made hundreds of missions, and you're right, there are tons of buildings. I generally make "cities" out of the Military Staff Building and Railroad Depot building as they are most similar to normal office buildings. I was looking for the objects that were in, say, Dubai. I'm not sure where those models are located. Skyscrapers aren't common 3rd party mission assets, so I wasn't sure if they were possible. With that being said, I did just find a really nice Space Needle: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3316555/

Well Chuck Norris wishes he was as tough as my infantry. They stand on the field of battle, both hands giving the "you're #1 salute", as bombs and missiles explode mere feet from where they stand, leaving moon-like craters in their wake. Does my infantry flinch? Pfffft. Do killer whales dance the tango in Madison Square Garden on the third Friday of every month? Hell no they don't. And my men don't flinch either. Bow down whoever you are, because if you're currently breathing air, you're a coward compared to these guys. I don't want to say these guys are pimps, so I'll just say that when they aren't kicking anuses and taking names, they're standing on a street corner wearing purple fedoras, calling people "jive-turkeys", and making good and sure their "employees" aren't short-changing them on the bread. And that's all I have to say about that.
-
Can we design our own buildings or are there any mods with new buildings? I want to build a city, like Dubai, but obviously much smaller. Is there a way to do this?

Even with the Warthog HOTAS setup, I had to set deadzones or autopilot wouldn't work. It does work now, though, quite well ... but yeah, it does need dead zones.

BTW, I fixed it by rolling back to a previous version. It seems the input file just got corrupted.

I fly the Hornet primarily, and it's hard to truly over-G the plane for more than transiently. The FCS limits the plane to 7.5 G's (slick), and even if you pull the pinkie switch, it only gives you 33% more ... a bit less than 10Gs total. Even pulling the switch, I rarely see 10+, and the rare times I do, it's extremely brief, maybe a quarter of a second. I could be wrong, but I don't think you can fly the Hornet in a way that will result in immediate airframe damage (sans colliding with something, of course). I imagine this is why it's not modelled? Not to mention, a few seconds at max-G gets the Hornet < 200kts *very* quickly. BTW, I agree that pulling the pinkie switch in dogfights is lame, but you'll do nothing but go down in flames if you don't because everyone else is pulling it. Two wrongs don't make a right, but one wrong makes for a pretty unenjoyable, and possibly even pointless dogfighting session. That's why they banned using the pinkie switch from that Folds of Honor contest last year.

I usually fly modern, but this past week I've been playing with WW2 planes. It's great, the only problem is that, when I create a mission, then hit fly ... it takes anywhere from 3-10 minutes for the mission to start. Subsequent restarts do not get any faster. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yeah, thank you, but I already gave that I try. Tried both the left and right. I don't know why it thinks the Pendulums are the throttle. I'm trying to figure it out. FWIW: From the F/A-18C, which works: ["a2003cdnil"] = { ["name"] = "Rudder", ["removed"] = { [1] = { ["key"] = "JOY_RZ", }, }, }, ["a2004cdnil"] = { ["name"] = "Thrust", ["removed"] = { [1] = { ["key"] = "JOY_Z", }, }, }, ["a2005cdnil"] = { ["added"] = { [1] = { ["key"] = "JOY_RZ", }, }, ["name"] = "Thrust Left", }, ["a2006cdnil"] = { ["added"] = { [1] = { ["key"] = "JOY_Z", }, }, ["name"] = "Thrust Right", }, From the F-16C, which doesn't: ["a2002cdnil"] = { ["changed"] = { [1] = { ["filter"] = { ["curvature"] = { [1] = 0, }, ["deadzone"] = 0.03, ["invert"] = false, ["saturationX"] = 1, ["saturationY"] = 1, ["slider"] = false, }, ["key"] = "JOY_X", }, }, ["name"] = "Roll", }, ["a2003cdnil"] = { ["name"] = "Rudder", ["removed"] = { [1] = { ["key"] = "JOY_RZ", }, }, }, ["a2004cdnil"] = { ["name"] = "Thrust", ["removed"] = { [1] = { ["key"] = "JOY_Z", }, }, }, }, In both cases, they are in a file called: Joystick - HOTAS Warthog.diff.lua in their respective directories.

Got it. It's either just me, or a conflict with the specific pedals. DCS seems to think that it's the Pendulum Pedals ... the obviously use a similar axis, and it doesn't seem like it differentiates the specific device.

I have a rather unique issue that cropped up with this latest release (2.7.6.12852). I have the standard Warthog HOTAS setup, plus the $500 Pendulum Pedals that the starving children in Africa think I'm an a-hole for owning. Anyway, since the latest update, I can't fly the F-16 using both throttle and rudders, because the throttle controls the rudder and it doesn't matter how many times I clear/rebind. I tried just binding the thrust to the left engine throttle, but no difference. This is not the case in the F/A-18C or F-15C, it appears to be isolated to the F16 Block 50. Not sure if it's something with just my system or a larger issue, but figured I'd report it just in case.

This is a problem I've had since the day I started using DCS ... In any mission, I have to set my group option to 'Silence' or else Wingman #2 repeats himself over and over and over and over again. "Two spike 120", "two spike 120", "two spike 120", on repeat roughly every second. On the occasions I forget to set this, I have to either change radio channels or shoot him down. Of course, once I give the flight a command, I have to change channels back or it starts over again. It doesn't matter which map, and I can confirm that it happens at least in the F/A-18 and F-16. I've been surprised how persistent this one has been since it effectively makes radio coms impractical. I've done a couple of forum searches, and I don't see anything about it, though. Does anyone else have this problem or might I have a corrupt install?

I'm inclined to think the pilot would lose consciousness before he could tear it apart by G-forces alone. I mean, the wings won't come off at 9Gs, it would probably be closer to what, 15? Maybe 20? It probably depends on how long it's held there. But a pilot won't be able to pull those Gs for more than a few seconds. The meatbag is far more fragile than the airframe, so barring metal fatigue or some other problem, I have some doubts if the bucket o'flesh would successfully be able to pull it off just with acceleration. Then again, hitting the ground is a type of G-damage, so technically I suppose I'm wrong. In a collision with the ground, isn't it the hyper-rapid 500G deceleration that does you in?

I've ripped the wings off of the F-14 a whole bunch of times. Then again, I don't really know how to fly it. I flew it like the F-18, figuring the FCS would save me from doing anything I wasn't supposed to do. Of course, that didn't happen, and I kept ripping the wings off while performing high-G maneuvers. So, yeah, I think it goes without saying that it was due to my awful F14 piloting skills. That said, if you've NEVER ripped the wings off, I gotta say, I'm a little surprised. You must be a natural born F14 pilot, because it seemed not that hard to do, and if you have access to this awesome sim and don't try every now and then to over-stress it to the point point that they come unglued, might I suggest you do so? The first thing I do in a new plane is try to destroy every which way I can. Not only is it fun to break things without repercussions, but dare I say it helps you understand the plane's strengths and weaknesses much better. And come on, have you never found yourself out of ammo, and decided to go out in a blaze of glory kamikaze-style? Of course you have! And why wouldn't you, it's quite fun. And, at least a couple of times, so is flying the F-14 to shreds. If you honestly have never even come close to doing so, then egads man, run, don't walk to your computer and do it now. If I may offer one more suggestion, play that Kenny Loggins piece while doing so. You know the one, "High-way to the Danger Zone!", and when it gets to that "Danger-Zone" part just yell it out with reckless abandon. Make the neighbors think you've lost your mind. Really feel it! Climb to 10,000ft. Get up to, oh, Mach 1.4-ish, thne grab that stick and pull it like your're 13 again and the Victoria Secret catalog just came in the mail. Prepare to say goodbye to your wings, because they're gonna go off and do their own thing. Before they snap off, think of all the good times you had together. You had good times with those wings. You had bad times with those wings, but you had times, man! You had times and that's what counts! Then watch yourself fall to earth as a metal meteorite and slam into the ground at terminal velocity. Screem "Woo-Hoo!" when you smack into terra firma and disintegrate. Go ahead, hurry, go, make it happen, you can thank me later.

FYI: I didn't have the easiest time finding it (I actually got .77 from doing a forum search last week), so in case someone else stumbles onto this thread, I found 0.86.7 here: https://filehorst.de/folder.php?key=dnc1kh7A It's in German (or something that's not English) so I had to click around a bit to get the download, but it wasn't too hard.

Edit to add again: Holy crap, I have version 0.77.7 ... thanks again.

Hi @western_JPN - good question, let me check. Thanks BTW. Added 5 minutes later: Hmm, I don't see the DC-10 so I must have the wrong version. Thank you so much!

Hi recently downloaded the mod, and the names appear onscreen and in the mission editor, but there are no airplane models attached. I just see the label flying around. I set perms and did everything else I could think of, but nothing help. This is the correct location, right?

Thanks for the replies. I understand about the damage not being modeled. I think what's caused me to wonder about the underlying flight model is that I was able to crab 15 degrees left or right at Mach 2.0+, and maintain that flight attitude for as long as I held it. I'm sure it would have rolled had I not held the stick offset. It "feels" like it would be impossible, and from the responses here, it looks like it's the lack of damage that allows it. Essentially, I could do things that I don't think are physically possible. Oh, and to add to the confusion, every FC3 aircraft more or less behaves the same way. Stomp the rudder at maximum speed, and it'll fly crabbed at 1.5+ Mach. That's what I meant by not modelling the rudder. The rudders perform at high speed very much the same as the perform at low speed. At least from my limited experience. As you pointed out, though, with most of my time being spent in the F18, much if it is likely just pilot error/misunderstanding. I appreciate the replies. I learned several things about the F-15 that I didn't know. I'm looking forward to the F-15 Strike Eagle full fidelity plane which is coming, I think next year. Or that was the rumor at one point. Thanks again! Ah-ha ... got it. This makes sense. Thank you.

Can someone who has a little free time do a little test for me? 1) Hop in the F-15, map is irrelevant, for ease of the experiment, a clear, low-wind day is probably best 2) Climb to 25,000 feet, give or take a couple of grand 3) Set Altitude hold 4) Set the throttles to full burner 5) Keep them at 100% while you listen to this video in its entirety (optional - but I think it does make you go faster) 6) When you get to 700+ IAS, press either rudder pedal to the floor 7) Observe what happens Questions: 1) Is what happens, what you expected to happen? 2) Is it actually possible to get full deflection on the rudders at that speed without them ripping off and losing control? 3) What drug, or possibly, combination of drugs, made Kenny Loggins think that haircut was fashionable? Talk about taking a ride into the danger zone. If you repeat this exercise in the Hornet (although probably at less than 700kts), you'll get the reaction I would personally expect, which is to say ... not much of one. The rudders don't deflect much at that speed. Ever-so-slightly, if at all. That said, I thought the F15 and F18 use the same PFM flight model, so I'm a little confused by the disparity in rudder effect. Is it possible that they didn't model the rudder at all for the 15 besides throwing full yaw one way or the other? Maybe I just don't understand how the F15 works, and maybe it's completely normal? P.S. After doing some testing, it appears that all FC3 aircraft exhibit this "omnipotent-rudder" effect. I'm a little confused as to what reality should be here.
