A little F-15C AFM update - 7 December 2013
KillarZ replied to uboats's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Didn't want to start a new thread about this so quick question. If I buy FC3 within the next coming weeks will I automatically get the f-15c and su-27 AFMs when they come out? -
Beginners Guide to DCS World Aircraft Mods
KillarZ replied to RedBeard2's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
Thank you for taking the time and effort into creating this document. As a current aerospace engineer student I will hopefully require a decent knowledge and skill over the years to create decent mods for DCS. I'm just now closing my first semester of college so I haven't had any hardcore aerospace classes yet but I already started playing around with 3d max and plan on taking a C++ and calculus course over next summer. (I want to get the credits out of the way) So hopefully in the summer if I have the time, patience and interest I will be able to sit down and play around with modding into DCS. -
RIP. God bless him into your arms.

Interesting read on flight models. Does anyone know what sources and what information one would need to create an AFM or even an SFM. Where could you find these sources? Don't mean to get off topic but just a quick question.
-
Technology wise it's definitely and obviously possible. Just is all about setting up the legal rules regulations and safety precautions for this. Would be cool though. It's funny how fast drones and quadcopters are taking off the start of the drone age as just begun and the possibilities for this technology is endless. BTW I'm sure many of you have seen this video but cool display of quadcopter drones.

Two problems with DCS IMO 1-outdated technology 2- long development time IMO the problem with DCS is the outdated technology and the development time. These two create a never ending loop where ED is always going to try to play catch up to the next gen technology while still try to deliver content for the current platform. I understand that they are a very small company and these projects take an extensive amount of time and work but by the time it takes for the team to get one project out, the technology they used to create it is already years old. By the time we get a decent amount of modules into DCS, it will still be very outdated compared to what it could be. They keep us waiting and waiting for the next installments to come out but by the time they come out there will be something about them that needs to be updated or redone. DCS IMO was a reboot but it should have been a complete reboot to catch up to current gen technology. As in a complete new engine that will make the most use out of next gen technology. The only current engine that's up to date is the amazing physics engine the game provides but the graphic/terrain, sound engine are greatly outdated. (BF3 jets sound a whole lot better than DCS jets) It's 2013 and the game still isn't able to use multicore. I support DCS and I hope one day they succeed but first they have to find away to dig themselves out of this development hole they are in. Maybe start a kickstarter to fund a modern day flight sim that uses modern technology with a world generated terrain engine and exceptional physics and sound engine. People say it can't be done with todays technology, I'm no expert but I believe it can and that is what drives the world today. They would need to come up with innovative ideas and a foundation game engine to make something like this work. Or contact another company that may be able to work on the engine separately. With that in mind here's what I believe what makes DCS good and what DCS needs to be great: Pros: -world class flight sim physics engine -best net code in a flight sim -good mission editor -very modular -very nice theater mode and camera angles -fairly smooth gameplay (I'm not really referring to framerate but framerate is decent too) -FC3 (because it creates a bridge between hardcore flight sims and casual flight sims) Needs Improvement: -better terrain engine (EDGE is coming but lets hope it won't be outdated tech) would be nice to see a world generated terrain engine -Improve UI (DCS has a good UI but does have a lot of room for improvement. Example would be an online lobby system and more graphical optimization options) -More aircraft and modules -multicore support -Sound Engine (surprised to see this not talked about as often as it should be) -Multiplayer and single player multiple crew cockpit support (I know it's coming but just thought I'd add it to the list This is just my take on it. As I said earlier, I completely respect ED and for all that they are trying to do for us, but sooner or later they are going to have to reboot to catch up with modern times. I get that ED is a small company but like I said, lay down a concept idea of what criteria they need to make the type of sim they want to create and how they will be able to create it. Then launch a kickstarter campaign and try to partner with another company that will create the game engine for ED while ED works on a couple of more modules to keep its customers happy.

Cold World. Not to say that death from the thousands of other people in the world that die everyday isn't a tragedy and don't deserve attention but I posted this thread because I felt the man deserved some respect. I personally have respect for him because he was a car enthusiast on and off the screen and he really didn't seem to have a "fake personality" even though he was making as much as he was. He was a very humble and respectful actor. Did I meet the man personally? No. But that is just my take on him. Also the man has done several charity events and he died on his way to one which I personally didn't know and I'm sure many others until he died. If he isn't a respected actor than who is? About the speeding.. As I said I'm very interested in fast cars, especially exotics. These cars are built for speed and specifically porches are built to deliver a thrilling driving experience. Now does this make it right to drive it to it's limits on public roads? No, but who's to say a car enthusiast like Roger Rodas and Paul Walker aren't going to go for a little joy ride in that ultimate driving machine. Yes, it is dangerous for themselves and others but for them they were just doing it for the thrill of the ride. When driving like this you have to remain cautious, calm, in control and not get carried away into doing something outrageously stupid. The way that Porsche is smashed it is clear they were doing going stupidly fast because cars like that are built to withstand those types of collisions. In the end I'm not saying it is ok to race or drive like they are but I am saying that it is ok in certain environments and certain speeds where you still have control and enough reaction time to be fix yourself even in the worst of situations. Of course the best place for this is the track as it is what is meant for. Also I haven't read any details about the crash today but, yesterday they said it seems that a second car may have been at the scene when they crashed.

^^ignorance. But I will not go off topic just to entertain this guy.

I'm sorry man but that was just disrespectful and rude. If you didn't like the man keep it to yourself but your comment was not funny or called for. I agree. Take that signature off if you aren't going to practice what you preach and instead be a hypocrite I wonder if he said that quote at all. Does anybody have the source? True that. I apologize for not mentioning him but the other guy was Roger Rodas who is a racing partner with Paul Walker. RIP to him too. I also pray for him and his family

"'Fast & Furious' star Paul Walker killed in car crash" http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/30/showbiz/actor-paul-walker-dies/ Really sad, I had much respect for this man and his career. Ironic that he died in a car crash.

Thanks, what other ways are available for smoothing out mesh. Also after reading through some of your thread. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=41425&page=15 It really made me rethink my techniques on 3d modeling. I just wanted to ask for others opinions, Am I on the right track? Should I restart my model after looking through more tutorials to get create a better more smooth and clean model? In this model I just took a cylinder and started to reshape it into what I have now. Is this a good way to model. Also Right now every thing is one object. Should I have had different groups for the wings, fuselage, intakes, etc.? And last, using the symmetry modifier should I get in the habit of modeling with out it?
-
This is my very first model that I've stated in early July. Well technically, it is my second, I started with too many polys on my first which ultimately led me to restarting. It took me about a week or two to get this far. Unfortunately I accidently welded too many vertices together and now the intake is messed up. This discouraged me to stop working on it for a while. I want to get back to work on it but I have to figure out a way to fix this problem. I'm not asking for your help but if anyone has any constructive advice on what I should fix or what I should do feel free to share.

lmao I saw that too and thought, what a weirdo but I just found his page interesting. believable or not it's a pretty interesting story. Not that I buy in to anything anybody says cause people like us may never know but that keeps my mind open to more things.

Yea I was thinking the same thing about posting on YT and such. You think the government would have tracked him down. But then again a lot of his stuff is only a month old which is pretty fresh. It seems like sometimes it takes the gov't a little bit of time to realize that info is being leaked. Especially since he's not a viral sensation. Not too many people know about him or his YT page. And the dude claims to be 90. It's not likely you'll see any 90 year old guys on YT but if he is, you would think that would be the age where scientist that worked in a such top secret facilities would feel the need to share they're info since they might not have it for much longer. (not to offend anyone)

I found thus guy on YT lol, yeah I know not the most reliable source, but if you actually go on his page and read his comments, he actually keeps a straight interesting story. Of course there is no way of knowing his accusations are true and I understand a lot of people just might call straight bs on him. But anyways I decided to share this to anyone who finds stuff like this interesting. And see other peoples thoughts and opinions on this guy. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiIfL5ExYloCmJA9F0aUpsQ/about http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiIfL5ExYloCmJA9F0aUpsQ/discussion

HI. I've just recently downloaded 3ds max 13. I am completely new to 3d modeling. It is something that I've wanted to learn for a while but I never had the right hardware. Now that I have the hardware and software I've been researching information about 3d modeling for the very beginners. Within my research I found a couple of great tutorials that I feel can help a lot of new modelers. I will post these for other new 3d modelers to see and for the experts to look at and make sure I'm on the right path. My first project I wanted to create was an aircraft model that can be imported to DCS. I know it most likely isn't going to be the best quality model but I can always improve it. (Right?) I don't know anything about scripting so most likely I won't be the one importing the model but I just want to create a model that will be DCS ready. With that in mind my questions are (These may sound like a stupid questions for most but): Will ED's plugins work with 3ds max 13? What exactly are ED's plugins? What do they do? Where Can I find them? And Do I have to install them before I start modeling? What Else do any experts think I should know before I start modeling? Intro to 3ds max tutorial Modeling aircraft tutorials http://www.my3dtextures.com/tutorials/How-To-Make-An-F16-Fighter-Jet.html#.Uc8mDXTn_VJ ED Plugin Information http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Editing_and_modding P.S. I will add more helpful links if and when I find them. Also can anybody confirm on how helpful these tutorials actually are?

I just wanted to add i have this same problem too, so its not just you. In fact Ive had this problem since FC1. Im assuming you're talking about using the precision slider to zoom in and out of the cockpit and even when your not moving it you get a little bit of jitters. Am I right? If thats true then yea I have the same problem and i hope someone has a fix.

Oh I see what your saying but a phantom would be for the people who want to practice formation on their own so they dont have to bother anyone or embarass themselves. Its just a great tool. But anyway i respect your server and thankyou for having it up. The virtual aerobatic community is small and unfortunately right now I dont have the time to be a part of it. Hopefully later one day I'll be able to fly and be a part of the community.
-
Do you guys later intend to add a phantom plane to fly on?
-
Hi, I'm 17 and am about to graduate high school in a few months. I'm interested in getting a degree as an aeronautical engineer. I've always loved planes since I was a kid and always wanted to have a career around them. So I guess I really want to be an aeronautical engineer but I just have a few questions. What's it like being on the job? (Do you enjoy it? Is it stressful at times? What do you do on a daily basis?, etc.) How hard is it to find a career as an aeronautical engineer? I know the median salary is somewhere in 80k but to be honest I was hoping to get something like 150k. Would it be impossible or extremely difficult to get that high in salary? How many years would it take? I hope someone on here is able to answer these questions. Im really praying for my future and hoping everything will come out ok. As you can see I want to make good money but at the same time enjoy what I do. So if there's any other alternatives that anybody might find that I'm interested in please share. Thank you for your time in reading this Ps I think I put this in the wrong thread so feel free to move it to the appropriate thread.

I was at school in class when this happened so I didn't get to see it. What plane was the esscort? And where were they taking it? -
lol you got me there for a second.

I'm sure they took some ideas in terms of look from the F-22, F-18, and F-35. It resembles them too much. But I have to admit it looks sexy

I just got bf3 for my xbox last Thursday. To me its a fun game and I already have to many hours into it. I have a kd of .87 (I know its not good at all) but thats because I spent most of my time going 1 in 7 trying to learn how to fly jets especially when there's a jet ace that has like 2000 kills in a jet. (It was 1.38 before I started trying to fly) The thing about it bf3 players argue that it is more realistic than COD, which it is, but bf3 is not that realistic either. To me they have a couple of minor things to fix in bf4 and yea the fact that they announced it already tells me that the series may get stale fast like COD. They need to fix when u go to high in a jet you just get stuck there that is so annoying. People say the engine stalls if the engine stalled it would fall back down not just get stuck.

Any tips on bf3 air combat. both air to air and air to ground are find. I just want to learn how to be an ace in the sky in this game
