  1. this mod worked, although I ended up extracting only the line for that command, just in case it was an out of date input file. Shagrat's suggestion looks promising, and is probably a better long term solution, since it wouldn't get broken by DCS updates, although it was a bit hard to follow because the post's image links were all broken. I still think HB should consider adding this bind to the default commands, since it obviously can be done, and the X55/56 is a popular stick.
  2. the X56 throttle has a slider switch that is in approximately the same position as the speedbrake switch on the F-14 HOTAS (labeled as SLD), unfortunately, DCS only sees it as one button, pressed when the switch is in the ON position, meaning that while I can set it to extend the speed brake, it doesn't retract the brake when disengaged. Heatblur, I know there are lots of ON ELSE OFF type binds in the tomcat's control settings, would it be possible to add one for this? Barring that, does anyone know how to use the X56's programming software to make this work with the existing binds?

    US Pilot skin

Anyone have any ideas? I know there are copies of the pilot textures all over the game, some of the hornet liveries even come with versions of it, but changing those doesn't effect the ejected pilot.

    US Pilot skin

Not being a very good pilot, I end up ejecting a lot. Often enough that it bugs me that after ejecting from the Hornet (as well as the Tomcat), the game uses the same pilot figure as the FC3 F-15C, complete with a very visible Eagle Driver shoulder patch. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding exactly what textures are being used by this guy. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  5. I just downloaded the Open Beta launcher, but it's kinda daunting that I have to set everything up again. Is there an easy way to port my existing settings and binds from my existing DCS install?

    time period

This new Marianas map looks amazing, I was kinda surprised by the modern setting though, seeing as the Marianas saw a lot of action in WWII. That got me wondering, since I don't have the Channel or Normandy maps, or the WWII asset pack, how does that stuff work? If I buy Normandy without the assets, will it look like modern France? Does the map's appearance change with the era setting of the mission?
  7. IIRC, the AN/AWG-9 doesn't have that capability. In the Tomcat, you have to rely on Jester and the TCS.
  8. I can confirm, this just happened to me and I was able to disengage after letting the wire drag my tomcat back a bit and jiggling the hook handle. The arresting gear officer is going to be pissed though, letting the pendant drag an idling 24 ton fighter a couple of plane lengths can't be good for the arresting gear.
  9. that's the problem, if I do start again from the inbound check in, I don't get anything after "Update State, switch tower." I never get the overhead call or the charlie signal.
  10. I was wondering what was going on with the layout. This new layout is not in the least bit user friendly. Change it back!
  11. ok, possible work around, if you have a key mapped to the ball call, you can still use that after a bolter, and the LSO will talk to you.
  12. I've noticed this a few times now. If I wave-off, the LSO will work fine on the next pass, but if I bolter or touch and go, the comms reset and I have to check in with the marshal again. Then, even if I fly all the way out to WP 0 and start my approach over again, they won't talk to me after the marshal hands me off to tower. No Charlie signal, I never get prompted for "Hornet, Ball" or "Clara" and the LSO doesn't talk to me.
  13. I play with a single monitor, no VR. I'll try the work around from that thread the next time it happens. Where is the dcs.log file? I did a search of the game folder and it didn't find it.
  14. I've been having this weird issue lately, I open the game and the mouse pointer isn't where the cursor is actually pointing. Usually the pointer is randomely a few inches to the left of where the actual cursor is. I can tell because buttons will light up in the menu as if I've moused over them, but the pointer is no where near the button, and clicking will select whatever the invisible cursor is on instead of where the pointer is pointed. This happens intermittently and randomly when I load the game, the only way to seemingly fix it is to close and restart the game, but even then it sometimes just does it again.
  15. there is also the problem that most tracer ammunition doesn't actually have the same ballistics as normal rounds. Tracers, as most people think of them are largely a Hollywood myth. My understanding is that they generally aren't used in aircraft anymore, because if you're trying to walk your fire with tracers they will throw off your aimpoint.
  16. I got this X56 set on EBAY for about $200, although it was refurbished and the stick was faulty, so I had to send it back and ask for a replacement. Hopefully this one works. Ironically, UPS delivered the new X56 just as I finished re-calibrating the Combat Stick, but at least that seems to have fixed the problem. Fingers crossed that the new stick works!:joystick:
  17. Hmm, I'll check the calibration and give it another try. Maybe the ol' CH fighterstick knows it's going to be replaced, My new X56 is supposed to come in the mail today.;)
  18. I brought out the Hornet last night after not flying it for a week or so, and I noticed something weird. The RALT and BALT modes on the autopilot won't engage. I clicked the Option Select Buttons for either of them, and the button animates, but the autopilot doesn't engage. ATTH seems to work fine, as well as HSEL function. At first I thought it was the Keypad I'm using for a UFC, but the button still animates when I tap the appropriate key. here's a trackfile showing it not working: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lpczmxrzgg9ct13/BALT%20not%20working.trk?dl=0
  19. It's a JetRanger helicopter with a big delicate camera mast on top, not exactly well armored. I think the primary attack profile is with hellfires from behind cover, if you're close enough to use a gun or rockets, you're probably too exposed. It makes sense to me why the rocket and gun aiming system would be an afterthought.
  20. I've been wondering why I'm only scoring one or two hits when I fire a salvo of phoenix missiles. I thought it was just the missiles being unreliable and going stupid.
  21. The easiest way is to make new shortcuts. Navigate to your DCS game folder, go to the folder marked Bin, and then find the executable called DCS_Updater. That is the executable that your desktop shortcut would have pointed to. Right click on that. Towards the top of the right click menu should be an option to "Pin to Start," that will put a shortcut on your start menu. To add a shortcut on your desktop, open the same menu, then find the "Send to" submenu. Inside that will be an option that says "Desktop (Create Shortcut)." That should replace the shortcut on your desktop.
  22. Given how many controls are already available for the tomcat this is a surprising omission, but would it be possible to add an axis for the manual wing sweep handle?
