  1. New patch Installed. Using the method I described above I can actually see a small improvement of about 2 FPS in VR.
  2. @BIGNEWY, with all due respect, a track file is not going to show any problems on its own. We can see that ED have made graphical enhancements (which in my opinion at least, are quite stunning) and following that, as perhaps might be expected, there is a measurable increase in both GPU and CPU frametimes, leading to a decrease in FPS. It is relatively easy to measure. Create a simple track file in 2.7.6. Replay it in 2.7.6 and capture framerate/FPS averages over the whole track (in VR for example, FPSVR does this very accurately). Then replay the track file in 2.7.7 with the same rig and settings and repeat the capture and compare the results. I can't believe the ED developers have not done something similar and must be well aware. Personally, I have seperate 2.7.6 ans 2.7.7 installs and measure an average 8-10 FPS reduction in VR with that method. Unless users were already running close to the limit of what their rig and settings can handle smoothly, this might go unnoticed (which no doubt explains why not everyone is seeing a problem). But it's apparent from this thread that many users are at that limit now.
  3. +1 ..3 times for me at the moment, and looking forward to my old brain forgetting enough of it so I can watch again! We currently lack facilities in DCS though, to be able to do a Brad and take a strategic dump
  4. LOL. Wise words, though maybe too late for me this week !
  5. 80% for me too. I fly at 80% too
  6. Makes sense, just quickly tested with clouds ultra, CW, medium water ..and there's the additional GPU second Still don't quite understand why my CPU is so low. Must be the 5900X I guess, which interestingly only ever boosts to 4.8
  7. LOL, yes, like we knew it would ! Have to tested FSR 1.1 v 1.2. Your GPU framerate seem high considering.. ..which was also presumably on high water I got a much bigger GPU reduction when I added FSR 1.1.. though maybe we're using different settings ? // AMD presets: // Ultra Quality => 0.77 // Quality => 0.67 // Balanced => 0.59 // Performance => 0.50 "renderScale": 0.80, // tune sharpness, values range from 0 to 1 "sharpness": 0.0, "radius": 0.75, ..and I have clouds on Standard
  8. I did actually experience a couple of SteamVR crashes yesterday, which is quite unusual for my rig, but they were both immediately after I installed shader mods and have not reoccurred so I put it down to that.
  9. ..exactly what I did until I found this thread..and very glad I did
  10. You need to install FPSVR from Steam. FPSVR has a hoy key - right CTRL + F11 which will start recording stats, pressing it again stops recording and writes the output to a .csv file in documents\FPSVR\. So, leave you G2 hanging on its stand (or wherever you can place it so that it won't move), switch on the G2, launch FPSVR (this will launch SteamVR) launch DCS. You should see the menu centered on your mirror display. Launch the track file performance track 276.trk as it launches press the hot key. When it finishes press it again. Open the CSV file, there'll be thousands of rows. global find/replace All " characters (or I find calculations won't work). Remove the first few and last few rows (It should be obvious how many to remove as the CPU values will be either far to high or far too low.) Then take the average of the FPS column and copy that formuia to the GPU/CPU framerate and GPU usage columns. And there's your results. We usually perform the test twice and take the average of the results between the two. A little long winded but easy once you've done a few ..oh and don't foget to disable motion smoothing/vector first..otherwise FPS will just be 45 throughout (I forget that regularly!)
  11. Mirrors will make a big difference. I don't underatnd why they're on for you, they're definately off when I replay it and I believe S-O-H already confirmed they're off for him. I assume you definately have them off in options/gameplay ? Do they come on by default when you do an instant action ? Aren't there known issues with the 6900XT and the reverb..or is that just the G2 ?
  12. ..now that I've finished screwing around with performance settings and actually done some VR flying in 4.7.7 I have to say, the lighting changes are pretty stunning. I always felt Nevada and the Gulf's buildings looked a little pastelly and washed out. Not anymore. The haze effect looks far more realistic and the cloud reflections on the sea have been seriously fixed. Beautiful with a low sun. Gotta love this game
  13. ..oh man, that worked perfectly ! I expected that I'd then have to use the slider to switch between installs but no, it now works in both without needing to do that. I guess, as you suggested, it tries to update both entries it now finds! Thanks again
  14. Revert is explained here .. use.. DCS_Updater.exe update <version.subversion> (so I assume you'd want "DCS_Updater.exe update 2.7.6.13436")
  15. You're a wealth of helpful knowledge. Thank you sir !
  16. Good point, but which is the "core" shader these days ? I didn't find lefuneste's particularly performant, and it was much improved when you incorporated it into Clear Water, and I'm finding that better than Simplex 2.1 now. I'll probably just alternate anyway. Only really care about clear water if I'm poodling around the Marianas bombing golf courses in a Huey. Incidently.. !! good to know it still works well.
  17. This was with 2.7.7 clear water and I turned water down to medium.. ..you understand that we're running these tests with the G2 on its stand and so view is always centered and running the tests using the mirror ? Have you also applied ALL of the hygene steps described in the first post. They do make a measurable difference. ..I should also state SteamVR SS generic 100% and DCS specific at 80%, DCS PD = 1
  18. ..we early retirees have time on our hands and have to fill the day somehow. It's DCS or DIY !
  19. seems little point in ED releasing graphical enhancements if we all have to reduce graphical settings and resolution to compensate. I suspect 2.7.7 (coupled with the simultaneous encrypting of metashaders, which precludes the use of many framerate saving shader mods) may be a bridge too far for many VR users without top spec rigs. A 10 FPS drop for 2D may be managable, but for VR it's significant and will break the ability to lock motion reprojection for many in some/many scenarios - unless they drop resolution/settings and lose visual acuity. All that said, this is a beta release so we should act like beta testers - report our findings and hope ED will find solutions. So for my part, and having performed accurate baseline testing achieved by averaging FPSVR stats taken using identical track files replayed in 2.7.6 and 2.7.7 with identical settings, I can confirm an 8-10 FPS drop across the board in VR. I'm lucky enough to have the disk space to now have 2 OB installs, and one will be remaining on 2.7.6 for now.
  20. It seems I screwed something up yesterday. I ran a slow repair this morning and sure enough, the waters cleared ! Also, Clear Water 2.7.7 is now the most performant in my testing ..from 72.01, and if I reduce water to medium, I can't tell the difference.. and..
  21. This looks like the OB registry entry, but I don't have a stable release one (I guess coz I've never installed or switched to stable) I assume the Stable one should just be an additional entry with just "DCS World" pointing at the stable folder ? Can you confirm please ?
  22. Did anyone notice the 3rd party modules slide ? (@44:45) .. .. Napalm and burning flesh anyone ? I love the smell of Pimax in the morning
  23. Yeah , I just read up on it at the weekend and set it up this morning. Thought about using the original saved games for both then that it might be safer to keep them seperate intiailly. ..now that is a thought, thanks !
  24. ah right, and presumably the stable-OB slider needs to be set depending of which is being used. OK, I'll use the custom path option as you suggest. Not a big deal as I won't be switching from one to t'other often. Just wondered if it was possible without that. Thanks for the assistance.
  25. That was my concern in my first post. However, @MAXsenna above is running 2 installs without having to do that
