  1. Maybe I screwed up when swapping the mods. I thought I even cleared fo and metashaders2 between each change. Ah well, it's been a long day
  2. My goal was actually to retain OB 2.7.6 for now and update the copy to 2.7.7, as 2.7.7 is costing ~8 FPS with little visual enhancement in VR which, if you're just managing to maintain locked 45 FPS with high graphics (even with my rig) in complex scenarios without modding the f*&k out of it, is a lot ! Rant over Thanks for the suggestions. I did actually use the copy method (altering dcs_variant.txt in the copy and then copying my saved games). I never considered registry entries for VIACOM .. eediot !! "Rename the export.lua, and repair DCS. Then start VA, and VAICOM should recreate files" - presumably it won't recereate them until I start the DCS copy ? Otherwise how will it know that I've made changes to the copy ? or does a DCS repair create a new registry entry ?
  3. I've recently created an additional DCS installation (I now have 2.7.6 and 2.7.7 in seperate folders) VIACOM doesn't appear to work correctly when I run the newly created 2.7.7 version. The comms menu constantly pops up and although my voice commands are recognised, they have no effect. I'm assuming this is because it is pointing at my original installation. Is it possible to make it work with either/both DCS instalations ? There is definately the VIACOMPRO folder and export.lua entry in the new installs Saved Games (because I copied the Save Games folder from the original installation), and I can see the VIACOM entry in the DCS Options, special tab.. I know's there's the "Use custom DCS path" option on the config page..but does that mean I have to change this every time I want to use a different DCS installation ?
  4. Ok, that went a lot quicker than I expected and I now have seperate 2.7.6 and 2.7.7 installs. I've used dcs_variant.txt to give each their own saved games folders. (For anyone trying this note that you need to introduce the dcs.exe version in the new copy to Steam and set as a VR game in order to be able to set app specific options in SteamVR.) Simplex 2.0 will not compile for me in 2.7.7, but 2.1 is fine. I created a merged Simplex 2.1 / Lefuneste mod hybrid to test. Didn't seem to improve it. DCS_Shaders_-_SIMPLEX_2.7.0.4625_v2.1 - Lefuneste HYBRID.zip 2.7.6 vs 2.7.7 FPSVR test results for comparison.. So I'm losing about 8 FPS between the 2.7.6 and 2.7.7 baselines with no shader mods, and can at best improve that by about 8.5 FPS with a shader mod version, so pretty much just back to 2.7.6 with no mods! Unless I'm missing something, I don't think your clear water mod gives clear water anymore ? Luckily FSR still works!
  5. Yep. My DCS M.2 drive has heaps of space so I'm been meaning to try creating a parallel OB installation from a copy of my existing one. This seems like a good time to branch as I really love my performance in 2.7.6 so 2.7.7 will go onto the new copy first. Just getting my ducks in a row, OvGME folder configs etc and some advice from Skatezilla first. Hope to have a seperate 2.7.7 build later today.
  6. ..me too, and my specs are in my sig - Ryzen 5900X at stock, ASUS Strix 3090, 32GB I run clouds standard and if terrain object shadows are flat I also run Mustang's flat shadow removal, otherwise settings are the same
  7. Nice one. Any further performance improvement ?
  8. Ok, I merged the new mod into Simplex 2.0 as I don't use the IC pass version DCS Shaders - SIMPLEX 2.7.0.4625 v2 HYBRID 1.zip Only Compose.hlsl was replaced in the Simplex deferred folder. The rest were new files. I'm still on 2.7.6, but DCS won't load with this enabled.. Perhaps the new mod is only designed to work in 2.7.7 ?
  9. ..sorry, crossed posts. Great minds...;)
  10. I don't pretend for a moment to understand how these shaders changes work, and I haven't gone 2.7.7 yet, but I do note that I get very similar performance with Simplex shaders compared to clear water hotfix in 2.7.6, and I understand that Simplex shader work in 2.7.7. So is it worth looking at combining this new mod with simplex ? as simplex appears to have a few additional members in deferred and also the enlight members ?
  11. Thanks. Back to ED I guess.
  12. Wow! Great so see someone innovating like this. Brilliant idea and execution and somewhat cheaper than PointCTRL. May I ask, as you're using the Leap SDK, is it possible with that API to disable/enable each hand individually ? I have been thinking about ways to get round the physical hotas problem described in the thread above but any method would rely on being able to disable/enable hands individually when using the hotas. I thought maybe using force sensitive resistor pads placed unded the hotas which could be used to detect a configurable amount of down force being applied by human hands resting on them and thus trigger the enable/disable appropriately Then of using some sort of detector of signal ground loop strength, which would be completed when touching the Warthog metal grips (An idea inspired by the drop in amp hum when grounding my Telecaster single coil pickup by touching the bridge) Then I thought of using inductive proximity sensors on the hotas but thankfully, I eventually managed to get to sleep last night LOL!
  13. I guess so, but I can't see the editing out solution happening for a long time, if ever, and I'd really like to get me one of these so a good-enough-for-now solution would be nice.
  14. Surely all that is needed from ED to get round the physical hotas issue would be an assignable button to toggle the hands on and off. Assign this to the hotas (maybe on both joystick and throttle) then only flick it on when you need it, back off when you return to hotas. Could even use a Voice Attack command. ..though thinking about it, you'd need a seperate toggle for each hand, or the hand remaining on the other hotas would start interacting. Possible ? Can't see how a masking solution would work as you'd probably loose access to all controls close to your physical hotas.
  15. I don't believe I've ever used it. Neither business nor personal. So hopefully I'm ok.
  16. Hi @SkateZilla As I have the disk space, I'm planning to set up an additional DCS Openbeta installation and then use your utility to manage different versions in both. I've never tried this before or used your utility so I'd really appreciate it if you could please confirm a couple of things for me.. 1. I need to initially follow the "dcs_variant.txt" file method steps described in your DCS Updater thread to create the additional install from a copy of my existing one ? 2. Assuming the above, does that create a new "default" saved games DCS folder, or does it create a copy of my existing saved games settings ? I.E. will it copy existing config/aircraft/liveries mods etc across ? If not I guess I can just replace the default one with my existing saved games DCS folders ? 3. Presumably then I just need to run your GUI and introduce both install locations to it ? 4. Then I can update each install seperately using your GUI ? Thanks in advance
  17. I wasn't knocking eye tracking tech, just the motorised IPD adjustment. Maybe useful in their commercial headsets which might get passed around a lot, but let's face it, we're alone in our man-caves here..or is that just me Don't get me wrong, I think this headset is exciting, but for me that's just because of the near display wide sweet spot. Seriously, if HP brought out a Reverb G2 variant where the only improvement was aspheric lenses and software (at maybe half that price) I'd jump on it. And personally, I'd rather ED completed their Leap Motion integration rather than eye tracking for cockpit control.
  18. Thanks. Well I'm poised to make the one click BIOS change to enable TPM on my AMD board but I've read a bunch of horror stories from users who have done so and can't post anymore!
  19. Just curious as I note you've upgraded to Window 11 (which I sadly won't be doing on my AMD board!).. Do you have this option now in WMR settings? Start Playing SteamVR Games Faster: New setting available to automatically launch SteamVR when Mixed Reality Portal launches, allowing you to bypass the Windows Mixed Reality virtual home environment and jump directly into SteamVR. This new setting can be found in the Settings app under Mixed Reality > Startup and Desktop > Automatic Startup.
  20. What always gets me when new headsets are released is the way the Youtube VR "influencers" absolutely and unreservedly gush about them like they're the second coming. I guess I'd do the same if it meant I'd always be handed a free one on release day. "I've never seen anything like this!!!" they spout, when clearly they have as they've all tried and reviewed the VR-3 and XR-3 months ago. (I remember when the XR-3 was the hot Ford hatchback we all craved in the late 80's. Jeez I'm getting old.) As @Harlikwin points out, no actual DCS or even MSFS performance stress testing by any of them and the motorised IPD adjustment for me, is an unnecessary gimic that inflates the price. Reminds me of the pen NASA specially designed to write in zero-g. The Russians took a pencil. Much as it appears to be a game changer, I can't personally justify the 3 grand to upgrade from my G2 and shall wait for a competitive market. A Reverb version with aspheric lenses perhaps ? Nice easy inside-out tracking and off ear headphones for me.
  21. Funny you should mention that as these were released literally today.. https://varjo.com/products/aero/ aspheric lenses and with eye tracking to allow dynamic foveated rendering Still a little too rich for my blood, but starting to get affordable
  22. Thank you I'll take that. Can't see the thing in VR anyway Each to their own buddy. It works perfectly for me thank you. I'm sure this is not the thread to discuss this anyway. I only posted to assist someone looking for a solution in the spirit of this forum. Wasn't expecting a critique.
  23. I ran some baselines using your performance track 276 against my current 2.7.6 install. I also created my own track - Shaun Track 277.trk . This is just a basic flyover the populated Batumi areas at 2000 feet with AP on. I did this just in case your aerobatic 276 track breaks again when I upgrade to 2.7.7 (It's a good thing you're not in the RAF. I can just see the poor inhabitants of the Welsh valleys shaking their fists at you as you buzz them ) Anyway, averaging two passes against each track with Clear Water Hotfix, Simplex 2.0 and No shader mods, I get the following. I'm not running with any other mods and other settings are as per your old test 26, msaa x 2. I do also have my grass/forest/scenery sliders maxed. Medium shadows and no terrain shadows as per your findings re Mustang's So interestingly, on my track only, Simplex seems to give marginally better performance than the hotfix in 2.7.6 Also interesting that over both tracks, Simplex is less CPU demanding, and as we're more CPU bound I guess might explain my track result. I'll repeat when I get round to upgrading.
