  1. Incredible video. Thanks for the share Eight Ball.
  2. I feel like these questions can be translated over to a fixed wing pilot, and the information could be a little useful to you still, so I'll give it my best shot from an airplane pilot perspective. outlawal2 touched on a lot of really good points that I agree with. 1: Variety mostly, control over the environment and meteorological conditions etc. Can't exactly go rent an A-10 from the local FBO! Most real world pilot simmers are aviation enthusiasts, and enjoy all aspects of aviation. Hell, I'm a real world pilot, and I still have DCS, X-Plane 10, P3D, and FSX Steam Edition installed! Whether it's cruising in an F-5, or gently caring for an old warbird! I can fly almost anything my heart desires, at any time of day, regardless of the weather outside, and regardless if I'm sick or not, at any location in the world in a simulator. I won't talk about price since you specifically mention a sim versus flying for hire. You're not typically paying when you fly for hire. Although, if you're flying privately, it is a major consideration and often times a deal breaker for many. 2: Again, can't comment on helicopters, but it's a bit harder in a sim for an airplane. Obviously nothing can replace the raw, linear control inputs you get from flying the real thing, and nothing can replace real world head tracking/view! Although I'd be interested in testing out VR sometime to see what that's like. FOV is also nearly 180 degrees in the real world. Easier to spot things out of the corner of your eye, or see things without needing to zoom in. Easier to feel and hear what's happening with the airplane without having to constantly double check your VSI to see if you're climbing or descending. 3: Never flown anything like that. :-) 4: A LOT. Sim pilots tend to glorify the fun parts of aviation, but rarely do they realize you'll spend many hours learning all about regulations, like how soon you need to notify the FAA of mailing address changes...etc (and yes, you'll be tested on those things!) There's more to it than meets the eye sometimes. I was a sim pilot for 10 years before I began training, and had no idea how to identify the differences between an FSS and a FSDO, I didn't have right-of-ways memorized, that kind of thing. Not only is local law enforcement and the federal government watching out for your mistakes, but you're also dealing with your own life...and the lives of others. There's no room for letting certain subjects slip your mind. Real world pilots will sometimes terrify themselves, too. I know I've been scared in the cockpit before, and it's not as fun as triggering a random failure in the comfort of your own office chair. 5: As far as being able to get in and take off? Sure. Staying out of trouble by knowing what to do with special use airspace, and knowing what you need to ensure your person, and aircraft are airworthy are different. The answer to number 4 sums up the answer to this one pretty well. However, since flight models tend to be a little squirrelly in sims, a sim pilot may actually be able to handle most aspects of flying quite well! 6: My main gripes are always aerodynamic principles. Ground effect, wind sheer, and thermal forces are almost always nonexistent. Mechanical lift and mountain waves are usually ignored. Then you have controller axis curve issues. Weather draw distance is usually pretty small. For example, you can't see nasty weather coming your way, because a simulator will draw a singular weather situation around you, until it updates to draw something else. Hope this helps :)
  3. Hey guys. I've been searching for a while for a video I saw a while back of a guy going through an entire flight from start to finish in the P-51, preflight and all. It's an excellent training video. For some reason I can't find it anymore. I believe the pilot had passed away since the video was created. Anyone happen to know his name, or can anyone link me the video? It's a civ P-51, it's not a USAAF video. Edit: Someone on the A2A forums found it. :) ${1}
  4. A Bug, or a Superbug. All day, every day. It just doesn't get any more bad ass. :)
  5. I've seen people use those plastic rolling mats that stick to carpet, and cut out a hole for one of the chair wheels to lock into when rolled forward.
  6. Hey guys, anyone else keep a fancy time piece on their wrist while aviating? :D I have a couple favorites of my own right now. The Seiko SNA411 is what I'm currently testing out. Legibility isn't as nice as I'd like an aviator watch to be, but it has that knockoff Breitling look to it. For function I stick to my GW3500B. 12 hour local time on the hands, and 24 hour zulu time on the digital display. I'm curious about what everyone else uses. I can't decide if I wanna keep my Seiko or not. I worry I'll miss having zulu at a glance.
  7. I appreciate the offer to help EtherealN. Trust me, if I was having a hard time with a product I'd be the first one to post about it. I just wanted to read the official company policy on refunds, without it taking 8 weeks through the ticket system. I had already requested a refund, and it was rejected. So I wanted to see which part of the policy I had missed. I didn't see anything listed in the EULA. The closest thing I could find was that if your license is terminated, you need to remove the program. No worries though.
  8. Sorry Viper, I don't see where in the information on contacting support where it states the return policy for ED products. Do I need to create a support ticket, and then wait for a response in order to find out what that policy is? Is it not readily accessible?
  9. Hello folks, I haven't been able to find the return policy for products purchased at the official Eagle Dynamics website via the website itself, a forum search, as well as a Google search. Could someone point out to me where it's posted? Thanks.
  10. Here's a video of a cross country flight I made last Friday using my GoPro. Sorry, no fighters in this one. It's in 1080p but for some reason Chrome browser doesn't like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnvhVOxDBmQ
  11. Mobile phone connections dealer and representative. Recommending products and services, consulting with customers and analyzing accounts, activating devices, discussing mobile broadband and hotspot solutions, transferring data like contacts, pictures, and videos, installing their screen shields, setting up and activating loaner phones that are given as part of our protection program, training, and selling effectively in ways that benefit the customer. Etc. :)
  12. Yet when a new DCS module is released, using the same map that's pretty much been in use for the past decade, using the same engine, you'll be the first to shell out money, right? It's a continuation of a series of games. It still holds the same title, Battlefield, so don't be surprised if it's similar. I don't see what's so horrid about all new maps, new weapon models, most likely new game modes, new textures, a mass of unannounced improvements, and development for months to come with DLCs. Is everyone just gonna hold off on the next DCS module until they see EDGE and Nevada? Those poor third party developers.
  13. I have 2 complaints about this post. :) Anyone who runs around in Battlefield 3 grabasticlly is a noob, and is pretty easy to shoot. Shooting noobs is fun. It's not a one shot kill game, and you don't have to crouch and walk around back to back with 3 other buddies playing Navy SEALs to do well, at all. The game wasn't designed around that mentality at all. It was designed for people to run into clutch points, and battle for control. All you need is a little accuracy, anticipation of spawns, and have movement nailed down, and I don't see why flanking noobs who lack SA and racking up the kills is such a problem. Your second complaint doesn't make any sense either. If skill is what you're dying to have in BF3, rank and laser attachments shouldn't be affecting you that badly. I agree MOH:W wasn't that great. They tried to make a COD killer which probably won't happen for a long time. I wish they would have sold the series to someone else, rather than just abandoning it. MOH 2010 wasn't half bad.
  14. Looks like loads of fun. Still a hell of a long way to go though. Didn't even notice it until I read this post. It's a relatively unobtrusive HUD anyway.
  15. Payday isn't until Friday. :D
  16. There used to be this website where they listed all kinds of game demos from the world wide web. They were all free. I'd download all of the ones that had to do with flying. I remember one of them was Red Baron Arcade. That was probably my first, albeit it not much of a flight sim.
  17. Iraq Lobstah!! :)
  18. Here's an excellent ball turret gunner video from Modern Marvels. Some brave men they were. Link
  19. Oh no... :megalol:
  20. C-5s would have been the way to go...

  22. This is a bit off topic...but related. I too have been seeing weird low-passes lately. I never mention them, because I don't want to sound crazy. :D The other week, a 4 ship of C-130Hs passed overhead at about 10 pm. I was in my kitchen when I heard Allison turboprops starting to shake the house a little. We get C-17s overhead every once in a while...Ch-47s at least twice a day...and I knew this sounded different. I was right next to my door, I opened it up, and about 150-200 feet from ground level was a 4 ship...the first two passing a second or two in front, of C-130s. The wind they gave off was phenomenal. The turboprops rattled my ribcage. All 4 were unlit, and barely clearing the trees. Neighbors started walking out of their houses a few minutes later. They were so close to me, that I could make out the shade of gray against the night sky. They went by so fast, and were directly overhead, so I wasn't able to see any tail markings. I also had a similar thing happen to me once with a privately owned P-51 when I was living closer to the bay, he banked between trees, dove below the level of the embankment that led to the beach, and cruised over the water until he blended in with terrain on the other side of the bay. When ever anyone tells me they've seen something incredibly strange regarding low passes, or weird sightings, I never dismiss it. Because I've seen some pretty weird stuff myself.
  23. Airlines are re-routing flights to avoid a North Korean missile launch. North Korea claims the launch is for "peaceful purposes". Japan has already been overflown by 1 rocket, and claims it will shoot down any that enter it's airspace. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/10/korea-north-rocket-idUSL3E8FA31520120410
  24. wtf. :D
