Great info--you should delete the other post and replace it with this actually helpful information. -

This is interesting given you advised me, "...if you did not find the Reverb G2 acceptable for you then maybe VR is not for you yet." Could you clarify, are you using the Vive Pro 2 for DCS as well? -

Well I'm disappointed for you and also because my index arrives tomorrow (Sunday FedEx)... Obviously everyone's experience is different so I'll give my thoughts after I've given it a go. If it doesn't work, I may also be back in a G2. -
From one Air Force brother to another, this is greatly appreciated! I was a maintainer (structural maintenance)--I didn't work 16s, but I did work KC-135 Q models, A models, and R models. I don't know how you feel about the 135s they modeled in DCS (don't know if the Rs were out while you were flying), I think DCS has absolutely nailed the details! I love seeing them when I refuel--especially since I get to see them from the receiver's point of view.

Hey I appreciate the feedback especially from someone with real world experience! And I definitely got lucky to find someone worse than me. I've been dinking around with DCS since about Septemberish not being too serious about it. I've mainly been flying with madness and no method, but it has become obvious there's a science/art to this that I need to learn. If there's any resources for learning this stuff, I'd be very grateful; especially for any type of situational/practical sources. Thanks again!

Look I'm a complete amateur--I'm thrilled when I get a kill because it rarely happens. At the 22:02:10-11 of this engagement, it almost looks like the jet "drifts". I just remember I was slow with very little energy. I saw the Mig moving fast from my right to left so I kicked the rudder hard to the left... the nose just seemed to slide left while the jet was just hanging in the air and I was suddenly at his 6. Mad skills? Lucky? Is this a common maneuver that everyone uses? Was it an over G and the wings should have snapped off? Or is this a yawn moment for everyone else? Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I sold my G2 a couple of months ago and I just ordered an Index so was searching for information. Anyway, VR in DCS is a compromise period. It all comes down to what you'll compromise because there's nothing out there (that I can afford ) that offers buttery smooth performance, huge FOV, awesome resolution, and perfect head tracking. It simply does not currently, on this date of 7/15/2021, exist. I could not find the right balance of those with the G2, but others do and that's fine. I'm hoping I can find that balance with the index. If I can't find it with the index, I guess I'll have to wait a generation of GPUs and headsets and try again. I know a lot of people are perfectly happy with the G2's and that's fine--I personally didn't like the FOV, two layers of WMR and SteamVR, and the performance. I got tired of looking for the right balance. My system: 2080ti i9 10900k ASUS Z490 2TB SSD 64 gb RAM

Without knowing what to advise, this may actually be the best advice... -

Gentlemen, I find myself in a similar situation. I had a love hate relationship with the G2--I just got tired of (what seemed like) endless tweaking and watching countless YouTube videos on settings... I couldn't find the right balance and I was spending WAY too more time researching what settings to use than flying so decided to sell the G2 and go back to TrackIR and 2d... Then about two weeks ago my number finally got called for Point Control and the package actually arrived today. I'm thinking of trying a Vive Pro 2, but just don't know if I want to jump back in or not. As you all have said so well, trying to find the right headset ain't easy. -
reported Training missions: instructor's voice inaudible
GoodHope replied to Redglyph's topic in Bugs and Problems
So I just went from using a USB headset to using a 3.5mm jack headset and now suddenly I can't hear the instructor voices. I can't even hear Wags' voice overs in the quick missions (I'll fight anyone who tries to silence Wags). I've set the World and In-Cockpit sounds from 50% to Zero--nothing, Nada, zilch. I switched to the 3.5mm jack because it is the ONLY way to get my buttkicker to work (I've tried EVERYTHING and the story is too long so it doesn't belong in this thread). This is really frustrating... -
Same here and no problems--Virpil CM3 throttle, VKB Gunfighter stick and base, Virpil pedals, Thrustmaster cougar MFDs, Buddyfox UFC, TrackIR. Everything plays well together.

Please make an option to turn these canopy reflections off
GoodHope replied to iLOVEwindmills's topic in MiG-21Bis
I'm right there with you--not that I've flown the -21, but for the aircraft I do frequently fly the reflections can really detract from this incredibly beautiful simulation. -
I've owned a set of the Thrustmaster TFRP and a set of the VKB pedals. The thrustmaster pedals were okay--didn't love them didn't hate them. They were light and slipped around a lot so I secured them to a piece of plywood to give them some weight. From there I went to the VKBs which are great pedals especially for helos, but I missed having toe brakes. I wanted the immersion of having the toe brakes so, after getting their CM3 throttle, I went with a pair of Virpil ACE Flight Pedals and I don't see ever going back to anything else. Virpil is simply top-shelf--their customer service is amazing and their software is outstanding. Can't say enough good things about Virpil. Don't get me wrong, the VKBs are fantastic pedals, but the ACE pedals are much more comfortable to me (which comes down to personal taste). Bottom line is you can't go wrong with either the VKBs or ACE pedals.

That's pretty slick and I'll have to give it a look. Imacken always comes up with good stuff!
-
I agree with this--I haven't put a lot of thought into it yet, but I'd like to come up with something tactile I can add to them so that I can more easily differentiate them. I also agree with the OP that when I'm in the idle position, because of the arc of the throttle arm, it is more difficult to activate the switches. Maybe that is a bit trivial, but I do notice it.
-
TDC here as well. Curious to see if anyone has come up with another use because I also have the TDC mapped to my VKB Gunfighter thumbstick (which I find more intuitive).
-
I think it is up to personal taste--I use the dial for zoom and actually prefer it. Works well for me.
-
Man, I hate to be that guy and I realize it isn't important to your post, but just for clarity those are the boom ruddervators. I've also been meaning to post for a long time about the 135s--I worked them for a little over 17 years. Q models, A models, and R models; DCS has absolutely nailed them down to practically every detail including the pebbles on the boom. It is such a thrill to pull up for refueling--a lot of nostalgia there for me.

GoodHope replied to HemiGuy's topic in VIRPIL Controls
@Fakum thanks for that link--that's exactly what I was looking for! I had watched the same exact video as you so I knew it was possible, but I wasn't able to see exactly how to make it work. @imacken had provided some extremely helpful info on setting up the throttle detents so I'm not surprised he helped with this as well. What I've noticed about the configurator software is that once you are shown how to do something that you previously couldn't figure out, the answer is completely obvious in retrospect. Anyway, thank you so much! @Moxie--sorry for hijacking your thread! -

Ralch, I'm currently running the same throttle/joystick combo so Thank you sharing your profile. Would you mind sharing the process of getting the thumbwheel on the right throttle lever to act as your zoom? Are you using a "button to virtual axis" type setup? No matter how you have it configured, would you mind sharing the exact steps for getting it to work? I haven't been able to find either a YouTube video or an explanation in any of the Virpil documentation I've read. Thanks for any help you can give! -
New Guy with some hardware questions
GoodHope replied to greyeagle787's topic in New User Briefing Room
Wish I would have reached out for input like this when I started back in September. I spent a lot of cash, time and frustration on a Thrustmaster set up that has now been replaced with a VKB Gunfighter II, Virpil CM3 throttle and (soon), Virpil pedals. I know there are a lot of people who own and love their warthog setups, but for me there's no comparison. -

Is the resolution of extracting two lines from the WH lua file in your "setting up detents" post? I looked and didn't see it--of course I may have missed it. Would like a chance to give that a try.
