  1. I've noticed this too--thanks for looking into it.
  2. I've been at this since September so I completely get what you're saying. It can be overwhelming, but it is incredibly rewarding and worth every bit of effort you put into it. Like rapid said, start with the basics and don't be in a rush--everyone wants to round down range, but take the time to learn good habits in the beginning. Sounds simple enough to take off and land, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do it--learn it right from the beginning. Learn formation flying--put together a simple free-flight mission with another AI jet and practice following it. It will pay dividends later; especially when you're learning air-refueling. Youtube is a fantastic resource to use and I've used it a ton. Enjoy!
  3. Absolutely brilliant post! Gold mine of information here--would not have been able to set up my detents without it. As you said, using the 0% to a button for the idle/off is soooo much more efficient/practical/clean. Thank you for the time/effort you put into this. The whole thread should be a sticky.
  4. Glyn, so I just started this campaign (love the original Serpent's Head) and I'm flying the first mission. You gotta tell me... did the voice actor for the controller on the Stennis intentionally try to sound like Lt. Aldo Raine? Because I'm having flashbacks to Inglorious Basterds! null
  5. Ditto!! I absolutely love the Hornet! I've tinkered with the F-16, A-10 (I and II), Harrier, Gazelle, and Huey. I always feel at home in the Hornet--it is an absolute pleasure. And I'm an Air Force guy--go figure that I'd love the carrier!
  6. Thanks Sabre--I'll give that a try. Definitely not trying to knock the campaign--you guys have done a wonderful job and it has been a lot of fun and a great learning opportunity as well. Best, Hope
  7. I've flown 3 missions in this campaign and my wingman has also flown into me twice. Once while in a slight decent after the last waypoint (mission 1) and another while on a gentle climb shortly after after departing Nellis (between waypoints 3 and 4). Sorry, I didn't save the track file, but if it happens again I'll save it and post it.
  8. People need what works best for them. For me the curves have helped, for others maybe not, but that's for them to decide. I would never say someone "needs" to have curves, but I wouldn't tell them they don't because I can't possibly know what would be best for their setup. Gentle and precise adjustments are one of the keys, and the curves have helped me with that.
  9. I remember 20 some odd years ago people laughed when I bought a hard-drive (and paid a ton of money for it)... "What a 3.5" floppy not big enough for you? <eye roll>" If I would have said someday I'll have 64Gig of RAM their heads would have exploded. I guess I should add I have two 1TB SSDs and if I had it to do over again I would have went with one 2TB SSD and one 1TB SSD. I thought I was nuts doing two 1TB drives, but one of them is almost full.
  10. This is what I'm using, but I fly the F/A-18 so YYMV. Not 100% satisfied, but they're a helluva lot better than they were before. 0 | 5 | 11| 25 | 35 | 42 | 49 | 56 | 64 | 75 | 100 X Saturation = 98
  11. I don't know what throttle you're using, but if you're using a warthog I highly recommend you put some curves on your throttle. It sounded crazy to me when I first heard about it, but it helped me tremendously.
  12. Great choice on the SSDs (I've got two myself and love them), but don't forget to give some consideration to your case and GPU cooling as well. Edit: meant to mention power supply. All of those parts: case, cooling, and power supply need to play well with each other.
  13. My kids bought me a set for Christmas for my G2. They came in a little over a week ago (I'm in the US). They are fantastic--my first such pair but can't imagine they could be any better and my eyes are very bad.
  14. Could not agree more. Depending on your hardware, VR may be a bit of a compromise, but I'm very happy with the performance I'm getting from my setup (mine is exactly like BigNewy's). I only fly "flat-earth" when I'm trying to learn something new so that I can watch by youtube or whatever--that's the only reason I'm keeping my trackIR. Otherwise, nothing compares to flying with VR--it has to be experienced. No picture/video on a monitor can replicate it. The last remaining piece is to get PointCTRL from Miles--I'm hoping to be in the cutoff for the next batch he releases.
  15. Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but having the mouse tracking to my head movement in VR is maddening. I had a Rift S for a short time and don't remember this being an issue, but now that I have a G2 it is driving me mad. Can the devs please fix this!
  16. For any of you glasses wearers what's your experience wearing them with the headset? Be really curious to hear your thoughts.
  17. I just noticed the M4s strapped to the dash--that's pretty cool.

    Members age?

    58--just started DCS in September.
  19. Same here and it doesn't matter because I'm loving the screenshots everyone is posting--great, great stuff. I didn't even know how watch my mission track let alone take and post a screenshot before this so it's a win all the way around. Big thank you to vJaBoG 66 for getting this started!
  20. Well I guess I'll give this a go--my first attempt at posting a screenshot so go easy on me.
