  1. Away for a few days myself, but back online now........
  2. Happy b'day Poko. Are you and Kivi going to make another movie?
  3. Good find Rolim!
  4. If you do too much swapping of views (too much F10 seems to especially be a problem) then Lockon does have a tendency to eventually die. This seems to happen slower the more memory you have.
  5. That is a shame. It had all the early patches for vanilla Lockon, both 1.00 to 1.02 and 1.01 to 1.02, the only other place I know that has them is CombatAce. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showcat=15 At least the Forum still survives, thank heavens. It is the 1st port of call for most n00bs plus it has a wealth of info if you use the search function.
  6. Thought it might be what you wanted. Glad to be of help.
  7. Flown the first mission - nice! I was able to deal with the 3 bridges on my own without using the wingman as I had enough weapons to do it. You got the AI to drop candle bombs in the right places, never an easy task in my experience. I must have just been lucky with the timing of my return to land. As I taxied off the runway, a couple of other Su-25's went past me on the taxiway. As I followed them to park, I saw several more Su-25's land. Looked real nice. Good that you did a night mission, too many folks never touch the time of day or weather so many missions are at noon with perfect weather. Lockon offers so much more than that if you take the time to experiment a little. Had a brief look at the other missions in the Mission Editor and they look interesting too. If I might throw in a few suggestions for any future campaigns you make. Change aircraft numbers so they arent all 01, 02,03 etc. If every aircraft has a different number, it is much quicker and easier to tell who did what on the debrief screen. Nice that you named the units instead of leaving the default AirGroupRUS01 and VehiclegroupGRG01, although you seemed to quit doing that for the 2nd half of the campaign. Limit the number of units not involved, eg in the first Mission, the T-80's and Ka-50's around Sochi don't contribute much to the mission other than eating up FPS for folks with average spec PC's like me. You might have limited the number of buildings that get attacked and end up on fire (even though it looked realistic) for the same FPS reason. You clearly put some thought into this campaign and I look forward to flying the other missions over the next few weeks if I can find the time.
  8. http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/flightbasics.htm IronHand has some movies about VFR landings in the Flight Basics section of his excellent site, they are about halfway down the page, so you might want to check them out.
  9. Of course any rep you might give me will only be worth about 70% what it would have been worth 3 months ago before the drastic fall in value of British currency compared to the US........
  10. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before about a year ago on these Forums. As I recall, some folks were even changing those coloured indicators in the cockpit? Try a Forum search.....
  11. Suppose my target is a convoy of trucks on a road. I fly at 90 degrees to the road and observe it out to one side - visibility is better sideways and you can quickly roll for a second or two to improve your view. I aim for a spot in the sky over the road ahead/behind the convoy that I think will give me a correct dive angle when I get to the road and make my final turn to be parallel with the road for the attack.
  12. I'm sure I read some information from the Devs about this. As I recall, in order to have the increased map size and detail in Caucasus / Georgia they had to lose the Crimea - I guess there are issues with the amount of space the map uses.

  14. Start the Mission Editor, choose your mission, then press the weather icon (top left of your screen, looks like the sun behind a cloud). That brings up the WEATHER page. Here you can set the season, temperature, cloud cover (for full overcast set the density to 9 or 10) etc etc. If the density is 5 or greater you can set PRECPTN ie rain, thunderstorm or (in Winter) snow or snowstorm. Most folks just fly at noon with perfect weather and they miss out on how beautiful lockon can look. Experiment with different settings of weather plus time, start before sunrise or just before sunset and change the time by 5 mins each time to see what difference it makes as the sun slowly rises or sets. Change visibility distance to get a haze in the far distance. Experiment with FOG. the setting THCKNSS is the fog height from ground level. you can get some nice effects in hilly terrain with fog part filling the valleys looks pretty to fly over. DENSITY is how thick the fog is and how far you can see once you are in it from a 1000m down to 5m where you can hardly see your hand in front of your face. It is fun to try some challenging landings with a crosswind, some fog, a low lying cloud overcast so you are totally relying on instruments and only see the runway at the last minute.
  15. Just got in from the pub. Looked quickly at that photo. Looked at the undercarriage and thought "WOW! Ka-50 has snow chains for winter use........." Then I realised (a) how truly stupid a thought that was (b) it is the locking ring for the rocket pod. Time for bed methinks.
  16. There is no solution. Saved states was designed to allow folks to quit a mission halfway through, then come back to it at a later date and load it up again to complete it. Sadly it doesn't work, certainly not for me or for 99% of the folks on the Forum who have talked about it. Known problem, will never be fixed, the Devs have moved on long ago to the next projects. But the lack of a functioning saved states doesnt force you to keep flying that mission to get to the next one. Declassify the campaign in the Mission Editor and fly the campaign missions in any order you want (plus change skins, weapon loadout, etc). I use this method all the time to cherry pick the fun missions in a campaign and miss out the dull ones. Go into Mission Editor, upper left of screen click on the open button, bottom right TYPE OF FILE select CAMPAIGN, navigate the folder structure to the campaign you want and select it. Bottom right click on MAP. Now you will see the 1st mission of your campaign. Many missions and campaigns are classified with a password so that they cannot be easily/accidentally changed. The stock missions and campaigns that come with Lockon use the password EAGLE. Top left click on EDIT, then DECLASSIFY, enter the password EAGLE. Now all the missions in the campaign should appear on the right hand side, so select the mission you want to fly. If you wish, you can select your aircraft, select PAYLOAD and pick different weapons / fuel load / skin. If you have downloaded any of the excellent missions/campaigns designed by the Lockon community, then some may be classified. Either the briefing notes or the readme file may tell you the password. Some may not. If not, then you can still get in by overwriting the password with your own. Use keystrokes rather than menu to do this. Press "ctrl + left shift + C" then type in a password e.g. 1234. Now press "ctrl + left shift + D" and enter your password e.g. 1234 NOTE that Lockon does not seem to remember the decassifying, so you may have to repeat it when you restart Lockon.
  17. Always thought the Udaloys were pretty ships. The internal camera shots of the electronics fit, radar displays, etc - all very 1970's looking though.....
  18. They can't get you if you fly high enough. Great fun though it is to fly at 50 feet in the weeds :D , sometimes the safer place to be is 15,000ft, if Strelas, Shilkas or similar is the only threat in your target area. Remember that in Gulf War I, the Allied aircraft soon swapped to flying at medium levels for ground attack missions after a couple of days once the MiG and larger SAM threat was suppressed. In addition Ironhand has an excellent little video on his FlankerTraining website called Strela Hunt, just scroll down the page a little on the link below:- http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/supad.htm While you are there, download and watch every other one of his movies too. I guarantee you will learn something useful from all of them, even the ones for aircraft you don't plan to fly.
  19. Already laughing......in anticipation of Duncan Aidaho (or similar multi-language guy) posting an English translation.
  20. Good job I_H, figured someone would come along with up to date info.....
  21. Best money I ever spent on something for my PC. Flying with a TrackIR compared to using a hatswitch is awesome. Took me a couple of weeks to get used to it and tweak the profile to how I wanted it, but then one day I was using it without realising it. It felt so natural..... I agree with Prophet, I'd rather lose the X52 than the TIR.
  22. I remember someone making some tables of this information a long time ago, so it might have been made on v1.02 and may be out of date for FC. I kept a copy of the F-15 data. Enemy Aircraft = F-15 1 Bar = 200 Km away 2 Bar = 195 Km away 3 Bar = 180 Km away 4 Bar = 165 Km away 5 Bar = 150 Km away 6 Bar = 135 Km away 7 Bar = 120 Km away 8 Bar = 105 Km away 9 Bar = 90 Km away 10 Bar = 75 Km away 11 Bar = 60 Km away 12 Bar = 50 km away 13 Bar = 40 Km away 14 Bar = 30 Km away 15 Bar = 10 Km away It would not take you long to make a mission in the Mission Editor and keep pausing every time another bar lights up, go to F10 map view and measure the distance.
  23. After you finish a mission in a campaign you have to save your progress by clicking the debriefing button and then, while looking at the debriefing screen, click (top left) "file" then "save". Don't confuse this type of saving with "save states" (ie the save button on the window you get after quitting, I have never had that type of save work, most folks haven't it seems). In case you still have some problems and just want to fly and get further on in the campaign.... There are possible workarounds, so lets get into those. You can declassify the campaign in the Mission Editor and fly the campaign missions in any order you want (plus change skins, weapon loadout, etc). I use this method all the time to cherry-pick the fun missions in a campaign and miss out the dull ones. Go into Mission Editor, upper left of screen click on the open button, bottom right of screen you see TYPE OF FILE select CAMPAIGN, navigate the folder structure to the campaign you want and select it. 24. Their 1st Bill et John movie had a number of nominations at the 2005 Machinima Awards (kinda like the Oscars but for movies made with computer games) and the 2nd Bill et John had nine nominations and won four Mackies at the 2006 Awards. Episode II took them a year or more to do. A lot of Hollywood style blue screen work was done. Great sound as well, nice use of stereo, try watching it wearing headphones. Watch it again and check out all the subtle touches and movie references.... The custom made different overcast skies The realistic smoke from the factory chimney Bill et John logo inside A-10 ladder door Tailcode BJ for Bill et John No smoking 50ft on reskinned fuel truck The perfect way the Maverick falls off the rail, tilting a little as the front lug comes off first. Red light in the Maverick nose as it awakes (tribute to the film 2001 a Space Oddysey (Stanley Kubrick) - HAL9000 computer) The little wisp of smoke from the tail before the Mav takes off Maverick speed and movement (inspired by the road-runner cartoon?) The traffic junction lights The rear and front turn lights on the truck The exhaust smoke from the truck Shadow of the Mavericks smoke trail in the river between the two bridges Red Master caution light and other yellow warning lights flashing inside the F-5 cockpit after he is hit. "HI THERE!" on the F-5 bomb (tribute to the film Dr Strangelove (Stanley Kubrick) - the nuke bomb that Slim Pickens rides has "Hi There" written on it) Music from The Shining (Stanley Kubrick) playing as Humvee drives to the farm. Humvee rocks forward a little when it stops Explosion rocks the General's Humvee Weather vane spins on the farm after the explosion Discarded underwear inside the KC-10 cockpit Everytime you watch you see another neat little touch in the background. B&J are still my all time favourite Lockon movies.
