  1. i was truly shocked when i heard the news... i am a PROUD owner of the extended LOMAC manual and have been trying to convince Nic to produce a new one for FC... he was always nice on his e-mails and was a marking figure in the LOMAC scene with his manual... i have it now in my hands and while i am flipping the pages i cannot help to silently thank him for giving me one of those small pleasures that life has no point without them. i like it so much that about a week ago i sent him an e-mail thanking him again for it. Rest in Peace, Nic. i will remember you. your family will too. thoughts and prayers go with them. in my heart, i know you´re just gone to fly a little higher than us... EDIT: How about creating a new pilot in LOMAC? for the FC release? Please, ED... please do it... he would be so proud...
  2. hummmmmm.... Microsoft has quite a bad curriculum as far as release dates go... and Intel... and AMD... and Nvidia and ATi... and everyone.. just sit tight and wait.
  3. weird... if i can find a cable long enough... around 5m or so... i´ll try to connect it to my TV... (sony 32" widescreen) or maybe putting the computer near it... well, right now my wife´s has the TV, so... maybe on the weekend i´ll try that... BTW, what resolution are you trying to run LOMAC on?
  4. the fact that it was a very good game with nothing comparing to it at the time had nothing to do with it?
  5. What do you mean, 'because of mods'. AND what do mean 'there wasn't even a chance to start the game'. Are you saying the game crashed because of a mod. If so, that is hardly the same thing because you couldn't play offline either. i had problems online, yes... me and other 2 guys were using HL, and we were setting up servers... of the 3 of us, only 2 could play... because the third one had a highly modded SFighters package... he had hundreds of mods... for what he said his installation of SF:P1 had some GB´s... we told him to make a clean install in another directory and we had no problems after that... that way i conclude that the problems were his mods... might be one in particular or not... but...
  6. this friday i downloaded the X-Plane demo... 325MB... did not have a problem... and i used windows download app... in my days of using download managers like Go!zilla i never had a corrupt download...
  7. indeed... though i still hope that a flight sim comes out of it... i downloaded the X-Plane demo this friday... thinking of buying it... though i still have to see what it´s worth...
  8. i´ve had problems playing online SF:P1, due to mods... there wasn´t even a chance to start the game... just wanted to say that... @BGP: sorry, she had to stop by here first, old chap... ;)
  9. taken from Fighter Ops FAQ: "Question: Is this another Falcon, or based on Falcon code? No, this is a new development. All code has been and will be developed or purchased by us specifically for this project; this includes the X-Plane engine which is being used as the code base for Fighter Ops. The lessons learned from years of work on the Falcon code will enable us the opportunity to design a new simulator free of all the limitations inherent in the six year old Falcon 4.0 code." While this does not specifically states that it was ever intended to base FO on F4 code... it surely must have crossed their mind... specially after F4 code had a new owner (Atari) that might be interested in licensing it...
  10. i think someone has misunderstood me... i TRULY HOPE that Fighter Ops sees the light of day... i just stated in another thread that alternatives to LOMAC, as OF NOW, are none. if progress is being made on Fighter Ops, i am TRULY happy for it... a new sim is ALWAYS good for the continuance of our hobby and keeping our niche market alive... of course... i am expecting a good product in return... :) i thought i should point another thing... when i stated in another thread that work in Fighter Ops was stopped, it was due to the legal imbroglio caused by GTi dropping the project... they had (i think) quite a headache figuring out how to continue their project... and the fact that they DID, shows that at least they are commited to the project... in the end, they had to resort to an existing engine... in this case... X-Plane... there was plenty of talks of being able to retain the original engine, using F4 engine, making a new engine... but in the end... this might end up being a highly modded X-Plane... the claim that Fighter Ops is going to model the entire planet is not reasonable because that was done in the X-Plane engine... they are just using that... building in an existing engine might NOT be a bad thing, if done properly... i will wait and see what comes out...
  11. either you print the electronic manuals or we all convince Nic to make another or an update of the existing Lock On: Enhanced Manual... Nic also had a project to make a map of the region in LARGE size, but due to small interest from the community, it never happened... :( i still think the Enhanced manual one of my best investments for Lock On.
  12. AFAIK, it would be less than 300MB... as for the rest... WHY should ED release segmented downloads when you can use a download manager that can make partial downloads, check CRC errors, etc..? they are free, available and simple to use... you can even program the download to times where you have free internet traffic or something...
  13. I won't buy 1.1 with such scheme. :x I'd rather buy CD mail version and pay for it more. This is creazy... people... let´s wait and see what ED is going to come up with... i trust them...
  14. actually my computer has been turned on 24/24 with this forum opened...
  15. it´s when you shoot at a target being iluminated by a "buddy"... helicopter, another plane or a soldier on the ground... the A-10 makes extensive use of that...
  16. what about enhancements like ZZZspace´s sounds?
  17. the 35$ figure was problably reached by what also 1C thinks it´s reasonable for the CIS market... and i hope that doesn´t work bad for ED... i was kinda hoping they could follow a strategy like: xyz dollars per copy X numbers of copies they predict they are going to sell = amount necessary to cover development costs, etc... on the english forum there were only 140 so votes... so i hope there are previsions of several thousands for the CIS market... because even 500 copies won´t cut it for ED...
  18. anyway... i don´t see the point of keep posting on this or similar threads... either people are REALLY naive and never bought anything online and EVERY software they bought was EXACTLY what they wanted and expected, or i don´t understand the radicalism of many statements here... but i think i finally found out what the problem is... ED, worried with what might be the best solutions to provide the add-on to us made a thread on their forum so that they could take some decisions, no doubt... and what happened...? people banging on ED on how they are going to make the download, or get a refund or how many MB´s the add-on has... those questions will, no doubt, be answered in due time. the point was to help them figure out how to provide us the add-on, because it takes time to arrange a deal with a VISA, Mastercard or whatever company... and we still want the add-on on time, right? as for refunds, download sizes, etc... that time will come. i will cease posting in these threads as i see no point in doing it unless to answer their doubts regarding how the add-on should be provided. EDIT: NOT intended to flame anyone. anyone is entitled to their opinions. Peace.
  19. that is probably true... which is a pity... Nic should have got a better reward from all his hard work...
  20. i was aware of that... i am glad that the Fighter Ops team is backing their project... that is a good sign... i was only stating that as of now... i could not think of an alternative...
  21. let me take a second to laugh! It is alive and well. Like Dmut said their new website will be up any time soon. I know of a bunch of great people working on this project right now, so it is far from stopped... dunno where you got that idea... Back on topic, I think flight sim's has a bright future, starting with FC! :D i also try to keep up with fighter ops... but since i knew that GTi dropped the project, and they have to start from almost the beggining and making a new website, etc... i take this as a project stopped until i SEE something again... and i don´t think it will have normal distribution scheme also... in a way, it´s kinda a funny... ED has made herculean efforts to keep everyone informed and knowing that they were still working on LOMAC and there were always people willing to suspect of ED´s intentions and/or willingness to support their product... on the other hand, most people i see in the foruns is willing to support Fighter Ops... Don´t get me wrong... i hope Fighter Ops sees the light of day and that it becomes a great sim... i would be one of the first ones to buy it... and as for what i stated in my post, i still think it is true... what alternatives do we have right now? NONE. Fighter Ops and Thunder Jet are things of the future... as for the doubt that seems to be bothering most people now here... i, for one, would prefer to receive a CD by mail... BUT... if i have to make a download... i would not worry much... you just have to use a download manager (and maybe ED will use one, like Adobe) like Go!zilla or something like that... that way you can make partial downloads, etc, etc... and if the connection is lost, it will resume where it stopped...
  22. he was asking for a manual... i gave him a choice... i did not tell him to go and buy it... i merely pointed that it existed and where he could get it... i´ve had mine for many months now and even though there were changes in 1.02, the manual is still a great resource of knowledge... the introduction part and training is also very good for someone that is starting to play Lock On. whether he gets the manual or not... that is enterily his choice...
  23. also you might want to buy THE Lock On Manual... http://www.lomac-manual.com/ even though 1.1 is coming and there are changes, this manual is a well made purchase... and maybe ED and Nic Cole will update it for 1.1... though that means i´ll have to buy another one... EDIT: Nic says this in his page: "07/1/05 New binders have been produced (250). This is probably the last order. " so you´d better hurry if you want one...
