  1. Not even in the same league. Only the MIG-21s with the R-77 will stand a chance, and even then, those are inferior in every single way aside from that missile. This is more comparable with the MIG-29A and F-16A. Israel never used the Mirage 2000. They never even bought the F1.
  2. I said "one of the first". ;)
  3. Yet people were willing to pay roughly the same price for other planes with less avionics systems to model. This will come with an EFM (eventually), which is what all the non-FC modules are getting. Unlike some of the other studios, which never released anything before, RAZBAM has an impressive product list for FSX. $50 would be a more ideal price, but it isn't so far out there considering WWII planes cost $50 ($20-30 is more appropriate for WWII planes IMO, but I don't set the prices). Seems like everyone randomly jumped on the skepticism bandwagon for one of the first non-WWII and non-trainer fixed wing aircraft. :( I'll have to wait a while to get it myself due to lack of funds. But I'm happy one dev is making an airframe I have some interest in.
  4. Will there be a texture template? And if there is, may you please include the "overlay" that ED does in their official templates? Not sure what it is called, but it essentially shows the 3D model. Makes it easy to figure out what part is what.
  5. Very nice trailer. Stunning scenes! Also makes NTTR Look very nice. Really want this, but unfortunately my wallet says "no!". :P Thanks to Razbam for getting another modern fighter into the game! Hopefully the Eurofighter and F-18 will follow soon.
  6. If they become flyable NPC aircraft I'd attempt it myself.
  7. Most games don't take advantage of an i7 over an i5. EDGE will only use a single core, so I assume it will not support more than one thread. Meaning an i7 will be no different than an i5. If the only game you play is DCS save the money.
  8. Fair enough. But clarity (for distance terrian) seems to hold its detail more on the Black Sea map. Well, we'll just have to hope the engine gets better through more updates over time. :) Still looking forward to it. Might have to wait a bit until I get to try it on my own PC though.
  9. Different technology, but the original LOMAC maps and current Black Sea map have the same level of detail throughout. Save for the undetailed continuously repeating area. So while the highest potential detail is better, I am a bit saddened about the blurring. Obviously the central areas will get the most attention, but for some of us the blurring is certainly distracting. I can't say how it will look on my own PC, but screen shot to screen shot I could be fooled into think that there were two entirely different maps. That is how much it stands out to me. Hopefully further updates to the engine can overcome this. All that being said, I am still very excited for this and the Dubai map. :)
  10. Very nice looking. Is the release coming soon?
  11. I'd like to share your enthusiasm, but we've had the P-51 for a long time now with no real development in that aspect. We do have terrian coming, but no word on how the AI units will be integrated. As for the modern stuff (~1980-modern), we have plenty of it in. SA-11, SA-10, T-90, M1A2, Challenger 2, C-17, E-2D, AH-64D, KA-50, MI-35, Su-34, the list goes on and on. We essentially have had an entire theatre full of comparable equipment since 2003's LOMAC. So a MIG-29, F-16, F-18, Su-27 ect. fits right in.
  12. How many extra copies do you have? After reading forum posts I recall the F-5E in development. Doubt it will come soon. So I am looking at the NTTR or Mirage 2000 in the short term. Not sure which to get first. Mirage 2000 is only the C, so maybe that will have to be bought later. Unless it ends up being Exocet capable? :D I am also hoping they get a good template released for it so I can attempt to make skins. Getting bored of the F-15/Su-27 only.
  13. And I still don't care much for the A-6. These threads are pointless, because everyone expects a "yes!" and when someone says they would prefer something else others get upset. An A-6 would be a poor choice right now due to the lack of time period equipment. There is some overlap, but we're still missing a lot of older equipment. Carriers (US) are absent. It will require a whole lot of work. I would rather have a plane which can be utilized properly now than wait 2-3 years post release for appropriate units to go with it. Kind of like the WWII stuff. The only things they can go up against are the handful of prop planes. No bombers to escort, shoot down, or tanks to destroy. Once some of the time period correct equipment is filled in I'd be more interested.
  14. Would I like it? Sure, in a fantasy world we would have every plane we wanted. Realistically, no. Better air frames to be done, like an F-16, Super Hornet, MIG-29K ect. IMO.
  15. Some questions: - Can we update the main version of our game to the beta, or must the install be entirely separate? - Does the beta version use an activation for our modules? Or must we deactivate them from main version first? - I know mods are not supported officially, but are there any known changes modders must make for their skins to work in 1.5?
  16. Any more info on this would be nice. It gets my PC about as hot as DCS itself, so it isn't too bad. But limiting FPS to avoid the tiny bit of coil whine will be nice.
  17. Megohm is another example of someone who gives back to the community. Although if anyone else has a spare copy of NTTR, I'll gladly take it. :music_whistling: I'm actually looking forward to seeing how my skins look in the new lighting engine. Have not made one for over a month. Partially because I think the new lighting may change the way they look. Maybe require some alterations? Hopefully after 1.5 is release I'll have some time to make some more skins. Had a few projects started but got busy.
  18. Surely artillery to? As for the GAU-8, its ineffective against modern MBTs. Use the AGM-65.
  19. Understandably, as they made no money from those sales.
  20. Las Vegas itself looks very nice. Lots of detail in there. Would like to fly around a city for once. The change of scenery will be nice. Now, I wonder when the Straits map will be released.
  21. Is this FC3 level or study sim level? Nice screen shots, but looks like something went wrong when downsized. Cockpit looks really great. Just wish this was a MICA equipped version.
  22. I doubt the care if switches are animated or not, like they probably don't care that the flaps are. The issue will be in how avionics work and possible cockpit layout. Depending on how much info they want to withhold, FC3 level might not even be possible. But I'd love an F-16, Mirage 2000, Mirage F1 ect. in FC3 level. A "study sim level" avionics upgrade can be an option for those that want it. $30 for FC3 level, $60 for study sim level. If you upgrade to the study sim level and play a mission with said aircraft, upon spawning there can be an "FC3" or "study sim" option. This way we don't have to place "F-15C FC3" & "F-15C Study Sim" in a mission.
  23. To find any of the aircraft/modules you purchased simply place them in the editor and set them flyable. Or launch a mission which has them. None of the FC3 aircraft are "free" aside from the Su-25T. If you did purchase FC3 then do as I said, place one of the FC3 planes in a mission, set as flyable and launch it. A prompt will come up asking for your CD key. Enter your CD key and the game will launch. If that is not working ensure you actually downloaded/installed the FC3 module from the ED website (or Steam). If on the ED site head over to the download/module section.
  24. The only free planes are the Su-25T and TF-51D. Did you actually purchase FC3? If so, open the mission editor, place on of the FC3 aircraft as "player" and launch. The game will ask you for your CD key. Enter it. There are some missions by default but I never played them. With DCS you essentially make your own missions or download missions made by others.
  25. And how much more money does an AFM require over an SFM? I'd think going from simple to complex avionics + fully clickable cockpit would be a massive cost jump as well. I can see FC3 planes going for $20-30 (depending on aircraft) and still making money. Obviously the level of detail in LOMAC was not as high as FC3, but they did manage to include all of those planes and an entire game for $40 (adjust for inflation). I'm not saying it will be easy or cheap, but I think an "FC3" level plane can be developed and sold for less than a study sim aircraft. Agreed. They can co-exist in the same game. Comparing the same aircraft, FC3 will be notably easier. Clickable cockpits are honestly a massive pain to. It is slow and unintuitive. Things that are easy to figure out in the real world (push in, turn right) are not so obvious when you use a mouse. And example would be the Hawk's weapon arm switch. If I recall, you must remove the cover one way, and then click in a very particular spot to push it in. Simple to do in real life, a pain with a mouse. Add in maneuvering and it is even worse. I think it is better suited to FSX based games in which you fly large airliners in stable flight. If you have a TracK IR then it will be noticeably easier, but still a pain. And most new comers do not have Track IRs. The other issue is as you said, it will depend on the aircraft. A modern plane like the F-15C is easy to fly. You will have a hard time falling out of the sky with it. Compare that to the P-51 or UH-1, both of which are immensely harder to keep control of. The problem is when you go modern, the planes become easier to fly but harder to learn. When you go older, it reverses and becomes hard to fly but simple to understand. FC3 hits a sweet spot between complexity and ease of flight. For new comers or more casual players, you need a middle ground. The Su-25T itself is borderline difficult in terms of flight characteristics. Something that is easy to fly but not too difficult to learn is what you need for attracting newcomers. I know that we can't make everything free, but I think making the MIG-29A free (and charging for the S) would go a long way in attracting new players. Systems wise it is not too complex, and flight wise (doubt this will change much with the AFM) it is also easy.
