Community A-4E-C v2.3 (May 2025)
Tshark replied to plusnine's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
To be clear, if you have two wheels braking and one locks, then the locked wheel produces less friction (stopping ability) that the turning wheel with braking pressure applied. The vehicle will yaw in the direction of the braking wheel that is still turning. This is the basic physics behind anti-skid brakes. -
With the F-18, A-10, and F-16, I use TX1 for Comm 1 and TX2 for Comm 2. With the F-14 I also use TX5 for crew chief Comms. Have not messed with Apache comms using Vaicom since it is broken. With the F-18 it is nice that with one hat press I talk to AWACS/Tankers and the other hat press I talk to ATC or flight.

Support for the A-4E and Apache.

Gang, don't delete your Vaicom just yet. There is a fix that is being worked on in the Discord Vaicom community. They have got Vaicom working correctly again and are putting together a zipped file and install directions. It has been tested and everything seems to work. Should be out in a day or two.

Found someone else on Discord that has the same problem since the 2.8 update. Friend and I pair up in the f-14 and comms, outside of ground crew, stops responding. We each get the comms menu and hear our transmission, but no reply from ATC, AWACS, tankers, etc. Single occupant the comms work. We triple checked all comm bindings and frequencies.

I am currently learning this RIO beast in VR. I found a cockpit labels mod so that I can read the different panels during cockpit familiarization. I use Chuck's guide (of course), YouTubes, and kneeboards. Wish there were more kneeboards for RIO basics outside of startup. The learning curve is steep, but flying the f-14 as two player is a lot of fun and teamwork really pays off.

You might get more use out of the mode switch using it as a modifier in DCS. I use the single mode programming, but use the mode "2" as a modifier in DCS. With it set as a modifier I can fly the Apache from the front seat if needed. As a CPG my axis normally controls the TADS. I switch mode to "2" then flip a switch to extend controls/request flight control and I am off flying from the front seat. As modifiers within DCS you can change all the buttons and axis instead of just the six buttons on the CM3. Hope this helps

ED always adds little tweaks with no mention. Aside from Vaicom not working the SAS alarms are now less frequent.

Yesterdays patch brought back the bug. Vaicom now only works when on the ground at a base or FARP. Guess we have to wait a little longer.

I am using the CM3 throttle and an Alpha stick. I just mapped the A-10 and here is what I had left over: As you can see, I still have quite a few buttons I can map to other items.

You can't go wrong with Virpil WarBRD base and Constellation Alpha grip. It is expensive, but you will be hard pressed to find a better built HOTAS. I have owned their joystick base for seven years and first iteration of throttle for five years. Both are still working flawlessly and have not required any maintenance. By going with Virpil, you only need to learn one software suite since you already have a CM3. If you are in the US then you can order through the US store. Faster and cheaper shipping.

Looks like some changes made to the Apache this last patch have fixed the Vaicom issues. I played MP as the CPG and conducted multiple JTAC nine line assignments. Vaicom worked flawlessly and my kneeboard copied all the JTAC info for easy TG point creation.

Make sure your cockpit is open prior to the request. The ground crew has to attach the NVG to your helmet.

For those new to DCS and looking into head tracking options, you might try "Opentrack" seen here: Use a Logitech C270 webcam: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Desktop-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B004FHO5Y6?th=1 You will get reliable facetracking for $35. Best part is you don't need to wear any IR transmitters on your head like TrackIR and others. Amazon and Walmart have free returns on the camera, so if you don't like it you can return the camera and the whole endeavor will not have cost you a penny. You also do not need AITrack. Set OpenTrack with "neuralnet tracker" for input and "freetrack 2.0 Enhanced" for output. My wife has been using this set-up for about 6 months in DCS and loves it. Hope this helps

I use the voice command "next" and "previous" to switch tabs on the Vaicom kneeboard. Page 48 of the Vaicom manual shows you how. Just use a voice command in VA instead of the keybind. This way I can use my rotary knob to flip through the other pages of the kneeboard outside of the Vaicom kneeboard page. Works very well.

need track replay Desync between the pilot and cpg

need track replay Desync between the pilot and cpg
Tshark replied to [RH]Mostafa's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have been flying as the CP/G with Climber and we confirmed last night that the desync only occurs if the LMC is used. As Bignewy suggested elsewhere I have unbound LMC until the bug is fixed. -
For NVGs make sure your canopy is open so they can give you the goggles.

CP/G gun will not fire while Pilot launches rockets?
Tshark replied to Tshark's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Thanks! Must have missed that. -
When playing MP in the Apache the CP/G cannot fire the gun while the Pilot launches rockets. The CP/G can fire prior to launch and immediately after. Is this a bug or an actual Apache feature? Perhaps to avoid any conflict with cannon rounds and rockets?

What I did was configure my default HOTAS axis to control TADS, etc. I mapped a momentary toggle on my throttle to unfold the cyclic (the "c" key on the keyboard). I have a toggle switch on my throttle mapped as a modifier and for flight bound my axis controls with the modifier. So to take control from the CP/G I open a switch guard and flip the toggle. The cyclic unfolds. I then flip the modifier toggle and my axis now control the aircraft flight.

Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to make sure the feature is available in the CP/G seat before I spent too much time troubleshooting. I will check on the force trim release.

I have been flying the Apache from the CP/G seat. I use a modifier to switch my HOTAS axis from TADS control to flight, but I cannot seem to get the force trim to work in the CP/G seat. The bindings are set the same as in the pilot seat, which works without a problem. Anybody else get this working?

Same for me. Occasionally it will work in the air, but is unreliable.
