Thanks Max. That seems to "fix" it sort of. It was the delays in the commands that was throwing me off. On the ground everything works normally, but get in the air and suddenly all Vaicom commands are delayed (even kneeboard). Hitting the transmit button a couple times after giving the initial verbal command gets the desired response.

Interesting. Do you have Vaicom TX1 or TX2 also mapped in DCS for comms? Are your menus hidden with Vaicom? Thanks for the info -

Just FYI for others. I tried various bindings and Vaicom currently does not work with radio communications. With canopy open you can use Vaicom for ground crew. There are a couple posts on Vaicom Discord that since the last update the Huey, Viggen, and A-4E are broken in Vaicom. You need to map the comms keys to your HOTAS and either turn off Vaicom or disable "Hide menus" in the Vaicom setting panel. For me with Vaicom off and the HOTAS keys mapped everything works as it should. I didn't disable "Hide Menus", because I fly other modules that are fully functional with Vaicom. -

Thanks for the quick reply Plusnine. I tried "\" and "r/ctrl \", but I see in the manual I should use "r/alt \". I will try that binding today. Sorry to take your time with a RTFM question. Btw- Your mod has got my wife into DCS and I highly recommend it to my friends wishing to start learning DCS. THANK YOU! -

Anyone getting Vaicom to work on the radio? It works fine with canopy open. When trying to use the radio with Vaicom, I get no response from tower, tanker or CV. On the Vaicom forum here it is posted that the A-4E is not a supported mod. Any chance the development team could adjust the mod so that it uses the radio the same way the "official" modules do? In VR the use of Vaicom is really helpful. -
Just curious if the Skyhawk is still unsupported. I can Vaicom with canopy open no problem, but radio comms are down.

Thanks BIGNEWY for addressing this thread. Coming from a flight sim that required a monthly monetary subscription and has not had a meaningful update in YEARS, I appreciate ED and the third party developers efforts. By comparison to that flight sim, ED is moving at light speed. If the SC you gave us didn't have such great features already, we wouldn't be clamoring for more. Hang in there!

Quick missions are good. Don't be afraid to try the mission editor to create your own missions against the AI. This is good knowledge and allows you to increase the difficulty at your own pace.

Quick question. If a new user takes advantage of the two week trial of an aircraft do they still qualify for the 50% new player first purchase discount?
-
I agree with the posts above. I started with the F-5, because I have always liked the aircraft, but it is really not needed as a "trainer" for the other aircraft. You will find the jets easier to fly than props. No matter what full sim jet you pick there will be a fire hose of information to absorb. Just take the learning process in small bites. That said, I personally recommend the F/A-18 as it does everything the F-16 can do with the addition of carrier ops.

You also might want to look into this head tracking option. I tried it and it works just as well as the PS3 camera I was originally using. The added benefit is that it cost under $30 for everything and does not require you to wear any IR transmitters on your head.

Hornet Air-to-Air Radar Like a Boss by 104th_Maverick
Tshark replied to TheCoyoteHunter's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I found Maverick's YouTube videos to be the most helpful. When I was learning to do air to air refueling I viewed A LOT of video tutorials. His was the one video that really clicked for me and I immediately starting having success with refueling. The same can be said for his new radar tutorial. Since incorporating his pointers my kill ratio increased. My understanding of some of my F-18 systems also improved. Thank you Maverick! Your tutorials got me results and made my play time more enjoyable. -
Go through Walmart. Same price, authorized HP seller, and 30 day return policy.

I recently upgraded my computer and my wife is using the old one. She would like to try DCS on her computer and wants her own account. Do I need to uninstall/install DCS (Open beta) on the old computer first, or can she just create a new account with the DCS that is already on the computer? She would have a different controller setup, so she would not need to keep any bindings. If she likes DCS, she would also like to take advantage of the 50% new customer offer when she purchases the same modules I have. I just want to make sure she would be eligible. Thank you

A Mossie is scheduled to do a flying demonstration at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino CA. DCS has me fired up about the Mossie and I look forward to seeing the real thing do a start-up, taxi, and fly around the field. https://planesoffame.org/events-calendar2/hangar-talk_3/131?gclid=CjwKCAiA7dKMBhBCEiwAO_crFEwnLJnf0F8hjDzqgYwgrTV66SzVlm6hPqshHu7wqxmi2xxUC0uUzBoCAbgQAvD_BwE

Love the update. My Mossie now works, except for the "Start priming engines" command. I just use the "Options" command to get around it. Is there a voice command I am missing for priming engines?

Just saw the movie "The Outpost". "Combat Outpost Keating" is basically in a hole and was surrounded by ground attacking forces attacking from all sides at once. Near the end of the battle Apaches made it onto the scene to combat the attackers. A mission in similar terrain with steep mountains surrounding the outpost would make for some interesting flying and targeting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Outpost_Keating#/media/File:COP_Keating,_in_Nurestan.jpg

I found the silicone cover for the face plate to be one of the best upgrades. More comfortable and easy to clean. https://us.vrcover.com/products/silicone-cover-for-hp-reverb-g2 The other upgrade that I really like is the VR Balance head strap cushion set. It counter-balances the display head, eliminated several hotspots when wearing the headset, and makes it easier to adjust the sweet spot of the display from session to session. https://vrbalance.net/collections/vr-balance-1/products/pre-order-vr-balance-2-for-oculus-quest-2 I have tried pretty much all of the FOV mods and, for my face, the stock face plate fits best and is most comfortable. Hope this helps

I had something similar when I moved my system around. In the SteamVR environment (the one with the grid and mountains in the distance) I noticed that the arrow on the "floor" was offset and not directly in-front of me when looking down. I opened the SteamVR dashboard with the G2 controller and re-centered the view by looking straight ahead and clicking on the button that has the little person with a circular arrow around them. This solved the problem for me. Just too bad you can't use the mouse on the SteamVR dashboard, but it is a minor annoyance. Hope this helps

Having been a Thrustmaster HOTAS customer for over 20 years, I can wholeheartedly recommend going with the VBK/Virpil/Winwing next gen of controllers. I switched to Virpil HOTAS and MFG pedals over five years ago. The accuracy and feel is immediately noticeable. The TM gear required me to maintain/replace parts at least once a year. With the next gen gear I have not had to give it a second thought.

I find I need 1 1/2 notches nose down trim, the rudder trim set right into the "TRIM" label, and aileron trim right about 2 notches. Also avoid rotating too soon. With the Mossie, more speed means more stability.
-
Request for launch is "Salute".
-
No luck here with the Mossie either. I don't even get it to recognize one command.

I had the same issue. Had to manually log in. Then I got the modules back, but wallpaper stayed on the default. Changed my wallpaper back and everything seems okay now....weird.

I had severe motion sickness issues as well. Short, gentle flights build tolerance. The mistake is to go too long, which will result in feeling nauseous for hours or the rest of the day. I also found sips of club soda helped. Took me about a month before it became a none issue and could fly for three to four hours at a time. The G2 clarity and price are hard to beat right now.
