With EFM it's definitely possible ... with SFM not sure.
-
If you can't enter the cockpit this means the EFM dll is missing or isn't loading. There are multiple different reasons for this A-4E-C.dll is not in the "bin" folder. Could be caused by anti virus software. A-4E is protected against manipulation of the lua files. If you change a file the EFM dll doesn't load anymore. When you upgrade from a previous version of the mod and don't delete the old files before you install the new version you might fail the validation (as there could be unexpected files from the previous version that are no longer part of the new version). You're missing a dependency necessary to load the EFM dll. Some releases ago some were missing the necessary version of the "Visual C++ Redistributable" on their system. You can download it from Microsoft, but as you mentioned it worked before it's most likely already installed on your system.

Do you plan to update the source code on github with the latest version?

Because the real aircraft doesn't have it

The Grim Reapers videos should cover most things: I think there are some small mistakes in the Case I recovery, though. If you want more infos check the CNATRA 1200 series documents https://www.cnatra.navy.mil/pubs-pat-pubs.asp

I always unplug the power supply of the G2 when I don't have it in use. IIRC that is/was recommended the HP developers/product manager.

Beginners Guide to DCS World Aircraft Mods

At least with VR controllers there's is the option to disable the controllers to interact with the virtual throttle and stick (within the VR special menu when "use controllers" option is enables)
-
Keep an eye on https://github.com/Copprhead/hotas-vr-controller/, it allows you to add a translation and rotation offset to the controllers. So you can change the alignment to whatever you like. It's not usable for your use-case at the moment as there is a bug that currently blocked the inputs of trigger + grip of the real controller. I planned to fix that problem in the next days.

Maybe don't:

Sorry for the potato video quality Shows the transition between physical joystick and virtual cockpit. Also testing upcoming feature: Use one button to move switch up and another button to move switch down. (So you don't need to rotate the controller to get the "blue laser", also avoids accidentally engagement of secondary action of hook and gear handle) Support mouse wheel for rotating knobs. Rotation speed increases the more you scroll to allow precise single steps and also fast rotation. Still some fine tuning ahead. Note that The "grip input" of the controller is automatically activated when you click a bottom or scroll the wheel.

Are these buttons mapped/mappable in latest beta? I've developed an OpenVR driver that can capture and manipulate the controller position and controller inputs (using a technique called "hooking", it basically puts itself between SteamVR and the other drivers). I'm using it to modify the controller position and emulate controller input (e.g. mouse wheel = joystick y, left click = trigger), but the other way would be also possible (trigger = keyboard space, y bottom = keyboard F5).

Reverb G2 joystick is working for me in latest beta. x-axis: rotate knobs y-axis: switch up/down

It's fixed in latest beta.

Interesting insights on the DLC from Grumman test pilot Kurt Schroeder from 43:34 onward, especially regarding pitch changes.

v1.0.0 has finally released: https://github.com/Copprhead/hotas-vr-controller/releases/tag/v1.0.0 Have a look at the https://github.com/Copprhead/hotas-vr-controller#readme for installation and configuration.

Of course we are talking about the use of DLC with flaps full down and on speed. If real Tomcat pilots @Victory205 say it's the correct behavior I'm totally fine with it. Just tell us how we should react to it
-
I'm unsure if I should push the stick slightly forward to counter the upward pitch or just ignore it until it eventually return to the trimmed AOA. Or maybe even correct by changing the trim? But wouldn't that mean that I need to change trim again after releasing DLC?

I think the position changed again with the update yesterday.

I had the same issue. Vive Controller wasn't mapped to any axis. Shutting off the controller didn't help, but when I disabled the Vive controller within the DCS control mapping the problem was solved.

You need to install VC++ redistributable, link is in the following post:

IMHO very confusing to discuss a mod that is not related to Heatblur in this section. Why not use the "DCS Mods" area for this?

Just put the wing sweep in manual mode
