Talk about throwing down the gauntlet . . .
coldcrew replied to britgliderpilot's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
hmm can't remember, I'll take a peek when I get home. Btw the guys like jabog and 169th who run huge server probably have different bandwidth requirements, on the kind of missions they are running or the number of clients they support -

in case you didn't know I'm the one who coded decmac and run frogfoot server on hyperlobby. su25t with 8 players and about a hundred ground units depending on the mission, my upstream is only 384Kbit, downstream 3mbit. Been there, done that, lomac can handle it. -

pure fud, you can easily host over a 100 units with 8 clients on a home cable connection. I wouldn't recommend it if you're also playing at the same time, best to leave it alone. There are some problems if you push it too far, like having units that spawn after a certain amount of time, but 100 units is no biggie for lomac (without the stinkin bubble system I might add) -
Is a Dynamic Campaign really needed?
coldcrew replied to Weta43's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
There are some of us who don't like a DC. I played F4's DC and after a while it's just the same old boring DC, just like the same old boring missions you get in pretty much every game. Play GTA enough times and it will become boring too. -
it's not that hard to add the ability to ban users.. if ED bothered to do it. It would probably take less than a day
-
what's this battlefield immersion you speak of? Most of what happens in F4 outside the bubble is just the computer crunching numbers. Many of those things don't even exist or matter, I can see the novelty in seeing a bunch of labels doing something while you're also doing something but that's hardly the point of a flight sim. janes f18 proved you don't need a dynamic campaign to enjoy the sim, there's one mission in that game.. a night mission, stormy and totally black, you won't see squat out of your window.. even your wingman. As you fly in to the target all sorts of things are happening around you, escorts doing their thing, sead packages cleaning up before you, migs & sus intercepting, awacs & jammers it's as live as you can get. As you approach the ip, the sams begin to get frisky and it's all business with your mfds at that point. The objective is a bridge with red lights, practically the only thing you can see in the darkness surrounded by sams up the wazzo and even when you manage to take out the bridge migs will be chasing you all the way back to the carrier. The point is a dc is overrated, the best you'll get is the same 7 kinds of missions to do this or do that and it get repetitive after a while. "yay.. another strike misssion to destroy some pixel called a factory in pyongyang. What difference did the 30 other factories I destoryed make? squat!". Granted the ultra lame editor in lomac makes creating a good mission a real challenge, but all the need to do is give us one like in jf18 not a DC.

Imho your stick is broken, you let saitek know about it and they'll have you rma it back to them. All the saitek sticks I've got (including gamepads) require no configuration. If everything is off you should get a new one.

somehow you managed to find a really crappy picture of the mig 1.44 http://www.samolet.co.uk/5gen.html
-
-ability to read mission briefing while in the game -ability to give different planes different briefings -and events (but ED has probably heard about this since 1.0)

it's hideous :)

it can be mapped, but at the top where you select "keyboard, mouse, and x52 usb" you need to switch to mouse and then map it to whatever you want. And not only does it work for the target box, it can control the gunpod elevation too :)
-
I was able to map the D, E and hatswitch on the throttle. You can't map the mouse to anything except an axis (you need to switch to the mouse controller to do this) and the mouse button can be mapped to left click and the scroller can be mapped to right click. The scrolling is supposed to be axis3 but it doesn't work at all. The "I" key doesn't do anything so you can't map it. I happed the precision slider to an axis, works great in the su25t for changing the target box on the TV.

what's so difficult about creating a new account? THeir system obviously isn't designed to support multiple purchases from a single account

Problems with Multi Missions
coldcrew replied to 214th_Silverfox's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
yes it's a weird known bug. Most of the time it means you have to redo the mission. Nowadays when I'm making multiplayer missions I always test the initial mission to see if it's working properly before I even continue. I think it helps if you add the aircraft first as client before doing anything else (but it's just my guess). You might not be able to do the testing if you don't have two computers tho. -
Step Right Up, and Place Your Bet
coldcrew replied to S77th-GOYA's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
december, anything sooner would surprise me.. hell maybe next year.. it's not like I'm holding my breath for a patch anyways -
well I'll answer. it's has a nice stick but it's not usable in lomac without the profiler and magickeyboard/mouse. If you try hard enough you can configure it to work in lomac but lot of functionality on the throttle is devoted to mouse functions (which is baffling because it's supposed to be HOTAS not HOTASAM). The main reason you want the x52 is that the x45 is flakey doesn't last long while the x52 has a really great stick (compared to the one on the x45). However it will come in handy on games like bf2 with the retarded flight controls that require you to mouselook with a mouse instead of the hatswitch

So I take it you're not satisfied with your 6800GT and 1gig of ram? Send it to me!

or you could just take out the sams with your standoff missiles and do the bridge with dumb bombs. As for setting up for the run you only need about 10-12km. Most people like to use the AP but I just find I get better control on the attack run by manually trimming. If you still want to do it without taking out the sams my suggestion would be to use speed and lots of flares.

don't apologize, noone wants anything that looks remotely like an a-10 to be jerking them off

if you mean the lights thing on the left side, then you can't see it in flight anyways but it does work http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/deadaggressor/ScreenShot_292_wallpaper.jpg and after landing it turns off http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/deadaggressor/ScreenShot_297_wallpaper.jpg but I don't think I've ever seen the lights change if you're not on glideslope (but then again, I always nail my landings so I wouldn't know :) )

Lock On is CPU limited, period!
coldcrew replied to 4c Hajduk Veljko's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
actually the way to prove it was cpu or gpu limited would be to try it with serveral combinations of gpu and cpu to see.. hmm sort of like this one http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/athlon_64_geforce_7800_gtx_scaling/page8.asp which for some strange reason seems to get like 2x the framerate of the one in xbit labs. now for a pop quiz. 1) 7800GTX 1024x768x32,4AA,16AF - the faster the cpu the higher the framerates. Is it GPU or CPU limited? 2) 7800GTX 1600x1200x32,4AA,16AF - the faster the cpu the same frame rates I get. Is it GPU or CPU limited? -
x52 setup problems. Is it Lomac or Driver?
coldcrew replied to coldcrew's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I think I'm getting the hang of it now, it seems the mousestick, mousebutton and scrollwheel is a duplication of an actual mouse; which is a huge dissappointment for me because they wasted 9 buttons on the throttle to duplicate a mouse I already have. My impression of this hotas is it was geared towards casual simmers who play games like bf2, games with controls so primitive, they require a mouse functionality on the joystick. The stick is amazing. It is very precise and the twist handle isn't as bad as I feared. It's huge improvement over the x45, the adjustable rest is my fav. My only dislike of the stick is it has too many buttons (while the throttle doesn't have enough). The performance of the profiling software is abysmal because there is a slight delay when joystick commands are translated into keyboard presses. I had a funny bug once where a certain joystick combination would result in an alt-tab to the desktop. If configured correctly you can do anything you want with the ingame config including 4 shiftmodes (shift, control, windows and alt) -
I'm not using the saitek profiling software. I'm trying to configure the joystick directly in lomac. Here's my problem, when I go to change a key it will automatically select "button33" or "button34" immediately after the button press box pops up. If i'm fast enough I can press the button I want before it auto picks 33 or 34. This trick works on most of the joystick buttons except the "clutch" and scroll wheel button. In the joystick control panel 33&34 blink when the scroll wheel is spun, but they are not constantly on, I'm not sure why lomac is detecting it. Has anyone managed to create a config for the x52 directly in lomac? and am I getting this because lockon doesn't seem to know how to use this stick? I just got it today and I would prefer not to use the saitek profiler (or worse the magic keyboard and magic mouse)

I hope the 3 people in hyperlobby testing this thing do a good job of identifying the bugs or else we'll all become beta testers like we did with 1.1
