Anyone using Beta Innovation's Plasma V2 with Lock On?
coldcrew replied to jamiroq's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
very exciting and informative website.. not -
I had this happen once to be before with a KH-25 antiradar. Almost immediately after I fired my weapon I was hit by a SAM but my missile recorded the kill. It probably exploded too close to my AC. and I've seen even weirder things before, I killed myself with my own gun in multiplayer once :)

I'll tell you where I went. Battlefield2.. plus I got a job!

I have an idea for a sim but...
coldcrew replied to 112th_Rossi's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
you know what they say.. ideas are like as.. everyone has one. I say if you're really serious about doing it then start working on it even on your own. It's only when you have an implementation that the idea becomes something worth while. I'm a software developer and everyonce in a while you'll get some green newb trying to get someone to create his idea. If you don't put any effort into it, no one else will. Even if you can't code, just designing and putting that effort (models, diagrams etc) is enough to get others pumped up to get on board to help you. -
AMRAAM arming/detonation distance
coldcrew replied to Kula66's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
it's not that close. I've seen missiles half that distance in your shot miss and not detonate but this is mostly with heatseekers. -
I always thought it was obvious little additions to the mission editor like events and scoring would make a huge difference in the enjoyment in the sim. I mean from version 1.xx to 1.1x saw almost no change in the most lacking part of the game, the mission editor. It's like they work on everything else and leave the editor as an after thought. I think ED should just copy the janes f18 editor and they'll have a beauty on their hands.

what can I expect from this rig?
coldcrew replied to Witchking's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You just multiply the laptop ghz by a factor of around, maybe a little less than 2 to get the desktop ghz, so you're looking at a 2.8ghz desktop equiv. The rest of the system is good especially the video card. Remember laptop videocards usually suck ass but a 6800 is great. You will need to run this on power adapter and change the power profile to desktop to get it running at full speed. -
forget 1.2.. where is the 1.1 patch? I heard it was supposed to be june but looking at the posts noone is even asking about it anymore.

Anyone having problem using Skhval targeting system ?
coldcrew replied to Roman G's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
you might be flying too low. When the target is obstructed by something you can't see, usually buildings or other objects the lock will break which might explain why it seems to break lock for no reason. You can usually avoid this by flying higher -
no.. thank you for your money :)

Battlefield demo 2. I used to run the frogfoot server (I'll be back next month promise! lol) but all my time is spent on the battlefield2 demo. It seems some lomac pilots have started playing this game cause it's getting tough flying out there :)

How about more Flap Control keystrokes?
coldcrew replied to dogtoes's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Or you could simply look down in your cockpit like real pilots and see that position your flaps are currently in before changing it -
How to re-acquire targets on the 25T?
coldcrew replied to BOPrey's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
landmarks, like the first reply said but also your compass! I always do a quick calculation where I should be looking for targets by noting my heading before circling. By using using 0-180/90-270 as my references I can quickly determine which heading I need to turn to put my nose back on the target. It takes a few times to practice. Very useful if targets have no diamond. -
Bizarre 6800GT graphic anomalies
coldcrew replied to Hatchet's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
check your case/video card for overheating. During last weeks heatwave where I live I noticed whenever I joined a game I got missing cockpits and weird textures, So I opened the case put a fan beside it and the problem went away. Just something to try if you have a heat problem. -
How about more Flap Control keystrokes?
coldcrew replied to dogtoes's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
you only need 2 to fully control flaps. One for shift-f (full flaps) and F to toggle flaps from full to half/half to none/none to half (F will never go half to full). However this probably won't work with the slider key on the throttle. Since I only use full flaps on take off, I have it mapped to a rarely used button and then have the flaps toggle on a normal button. -
it only works from behind. You'll get no love from missiles coming front or side. Try the last training mission on ECM and missile evasion (it says it's a su27 mission in the brief but it's actually a su25T). Halfway through there is a flyby over some strelas showing it actually works.

Is increasing FPS a priority for ED?
coldcrew replied to Strafer's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
if you want performance use reduced graphics effects. Obviously the higher you crank up all that lighting, haze, high water, high effect options the slower the game will run. There's a linear equation in there somewhere but the way they have it even a person on a ti4200 can still play the game on low settings while a guy with a 6800GT also gets the full features he paid for with his card. -
I prefer diamonds with increased difficulty levels. Not every target on the map needs to be diamoned, like you can post a strela or two near the diamond target for anyone fixated by it. Imho diamonds make up for the lack of briefing most clients experience when they join a game and have no idea where the enemy is or what they are supposed to attack.

sry loman. I'll give you one reason. When you're editing or creating a new skin and you need to view and take snapshots from the game.
-
I had to find this out the hard way too. The easiest way to to save the skin as a bmp file in the bazar/temptextures folder. For example the su25T skinpack. Just edit in photoshop then save a bmp version of it in the temptextures folder. A more efficient way is to use lomac to insert the skin directly into the cdds file
