  1. We have all seen the cheesy looking generic fighter pilot helmet reflection in alot of mirrors, well that how I feel about reflections.Reflections are a very difficult thing to pull off and in the majority of my large collection of planes and helis, more than likely they are a distraction and imo cheapen the model rather than enhance it so best leave them off. Seeing the crowd is about 50/50 maybe make them very, very suble and none at all for night ops where they are most noticable and irritating.
  2. Also get to know a area and you will find many grass or dirt areas to land. If I had a scenery designer that exactly what I would do is make a small grass strip with a few hangers, assorted ground support ect ect. Hint hint...
  3. Thats good to hear because a stutter or slow down on a gun run is a total immersion killer. It would be nice to have a separate slider or high-med -low in the graphics options just for such effects. Explosions, smoke ect....
  4. Ive got a 5870,6 gigs and a I7 but its running at 2.9 so I know you are struggling. All you can do is turn it all down. The things that effect me the most are shadows. Turn them off. Then make sure you have plenty of hd space and do and good defrag. Close all background programs so they do not suck up resources you do not have. As is, I run very smooth. However as with all other DCS releases, throw in AI and the sim slows down big time. As far as battles, lots of enemies fighting it out. Forget about it!
  5. I love these "VS" post. Ford vs Chev, Gibson vs Fender, Van Halen vs Van Hagar hahahaha. For the cost of one good FSX addon and some hard drive space you can have BOTH. Imagine that. Ive got thousands invested in FSX, 3 pages alone from Simmarket so spending 40-50 bucks is no biggie. I even bought COD knowing it was a turd just to support the developer. Flight sims about went the way of the DODO so I try to support them all. A2A and FSX are great but I must admit pretending I am some rich guy flying around on weekends in his warbird is getting old. These birds need some teeth no doubt. With DCS I am having a blast just enjoying the flight model, new graphics and lets face it, FSX is getting LOOOOOOOOONG in the tooth. The added bonus of being able to actually blow stuff up and be blown up is icing on the cake. As long as we can complain and dabate about which is better thats good. Its when there is nothing new out there at all so we are having to keep on life suppport "Falcon 3.0" for a decade that we all need to worry. BTW- I have all the P-51s available for FSX. Warbirdsim has the most detailed historically accurate Mustangs down to the rivots ones there are. A2A will without a doubt be more realistic and systems heavy. Get em all I say.
  6. Yeah short field landings are not needed on these runways that are long enough for a space shuttle to land so let her settle down before really getting on the rudders. I also set all my cuvatatures to 30.
  7. I did a quick flight earlier and and noticed the plane was easier to take off and land. Even though during reinstall I again unchecked the simple flight model the ball stays centered and I am yet to scrape a wing or ground roll the airplane and I have less than a hour on it. During my short stink with the prior version I was all over the place and broke more than a few props. After supper I will double check the menus but I am sure I am using the complex model with no cheats, auto rudder ect. Now I had just bought the last ver just hours before the latest ver came out and did adjust my various axis to make the plane more managable before deleting and installing this version. Edit Stint not STINK lol
  8. That flip feature was on some later models alp known as the "turtle on its back switch. Speaking of sounds. I am hearing some but the plane really needs a good ground roll sound. Complete with rattles, wheel contact ect that picks up rate as the plane speeds up. Also I am hearing some touchdown sounds but alot of time its silence. Even the greaser landing made some rattles. Sounds to me can make or break immersion. To bad they cannot be modded ala FSX.
  9. I tried in the tutorial and gave up. Have not tried in any other situation seeing that I just got the sim last night.
  10. haahahhaaha I just bought and downloaded the sim late last night. I got orange tires so I must have the older version. Must have missed the update by a few hours if that. Think I will wait awhile. Orange tires kinda growing on me and not sure the rest of the updates are worth scrambling for. Edit- Cannot download anyways. Must be getting slammed.
  11. Yeah get a Pyramat gaming chair, nah not the flor model but the executive looking chair. Its got 2 tweeters by your head and a bass under your butt. Crank it up and when you fire up that big ol gun your eyes vibrate so bad you cannot even focus on the screen! Cluster bombs send my pets hiding and rattle my desk. Thats my settings.
  12. Worth a check... When I first loaded A-10 I set the Saitek rudders as left and right brakes. Then I noticed when I used them the plane would do as you described making landings impossible and overall handling poo. The brakes were being registered as roll and pitch and causing the plane to upset when I used them. Also a uneven weapons loadout will do it. But sloppy roll, pitch from what Ive seen was always related to the rudder. Also try another map, mission. I had a saved edited mission that I was using as a graphics test bench and had alot of ill handling issues. Loaded another fresh mission and it stopped.
  13. I use a large 37 inch tv and was having issues with the sensor being to high just as you describe. It looks geeky but here is what I did. My ballcap I wear instead of mounting it on the rim, I taped it on the very top. Test different angles since when you put it on the cap will puff up. Then I got some double sided tape and tapeds the sensor to the bezel of the tv and even 1/2 of it comes down a little onto the screen. I am using one of the Pyramat gaming chairs, not the floor ones for kids but the executive swivel chair. Its got a subwoofer and 2 tweeters in the headrest and cranked up will blur you vision! Anways I could not lower the tv so I raised the sensor on my head. Hope this helps.
  14. "retailer with a good track record of customer service and one recognisible by the TM warranty " Any suggestions?
  15. That would explain why I could not find it.:music_whistling: Just plz tell me I do not have to redownload 4 gigs again........ Ok lets all say it together. RTFM  Its a major storm outside and my power backup has kicked in twice. Dogs are hiding under the bed, alarm clock is flashing 12 and I am ignoring it all consumed with tweaking my settings. Nah I aint a sim junkie! I am starting to feel $400 may be soon missing from my account on account of my sickness.
  16. Ok I am close to deciding. I am getting ok performance flying from the editor with no ai activity.Odd that it seems that the higher the settinga the less stutters??? Although I know when I throw in some enemies its a whole different animal. If I can get the sim to run smooth with ai running and not be a stutterfest or slide show I may get the Warthog. BTW- I have been away since patch 2. I give up where is Nevada? Thanks for the brake tip. I gave up on the toe brakes and simply use a button or W. I am not going to stress any more over something used very little in the sim.
  17. I am still 50/50. I am a impulse buyer, you outta see my guitar collection, but like I said I have owned most of their big black heavy stuff with radio shack quality guts so I decided to wait and let others be testers. As we speak I am trying to get my Saitek pedals to be regonized as brakes left and right and find the speed brake in the pit. From what I can see the Warthog takes care of the engine starts and alot of the targeting. A big help. A few more hours of programming my stuff only to watch it be gone next time I load the sim might push me over the edge.
  18. "Now I'll hide while I get slammed by the other TM owners. " No, being honest is the way to go. Be it good or bad, sugar coating everything to try and no offend someone first off is impossible and shows maturity. I have given TM enough money over the years that Ive paid my way into what was a exclusive club. I forget the name but their first hotas for the F-16. I was going through pots, stick was drifting, buttons were sticking but it looked cool and it was HEAVY. I even bought their sim, what was it Back to Bagdad which was $75 back then which was like $150 in todays money. I ran across a youtube video last night of a guys harsh but fair imo rant on the Warthog that seems to fit my feeling. Its price should be imo a $300 setup but because of the specific sim/aircraft and limited numbers they will sell, TM needs to bump up the price. I can understand that. But as he says, I also have been throught the whole cycle of sending in broken sticks and throttles, waiting for parts and using the "cheap" common Joe's store bought stuff while waiting. I still have a box full of old Tm rebuild kits and broken msc pieces. I understand the pots are now digital which does give me some confidence. Ok, must be the coffee. A simple Thanks for the replies would have done it but I get wordy. I do not mind dropping some money for a good quality unit and also support the maker but like I said I am not going and did not impulse buy just because it looks cool and heavy. If I find the best price and have a moment of weakness I may give in. Otherwise I will continue to yank and bank my X52 which I have heavyhanded for 3 years and cannot kill it which was going to be my justification to buy the Warthog.
  19. Ok I am in the process of reinstalling A10 after watching it mature to this point. I currently use X52/pedals with FSX and really considering the Tm stick. First off, whats the overall opinion of the hardware? Ive read some really good reviews and also some horror stories.Yes Ive read previous post but I want to see how this thing is holding up. And second who has the best price and also has a good rep? I am still 50/50 on dropping the $$$ on a TM product after my Cougar gave me so much trouble. But thats been a LONG time ago but it still stings. Thanks for any replies.
  20. I plan to use both the trusty and cheap X52 for FSX and the WH for A-10. I fly alot of helis and that requires a constant stick forward which quickly wears pot out. I think thats how I went through so many TM stick parts. This is what I did to keep my stick planted. I used double sided sticky tape, you know the kind thats glot a little bit of foam and you peel off both sides. I used that and stuck the stick to a thin plastic cutting board that left about 3 inches all around. This increased the footprint to stabilize it and I also can sit it on my lap. Btw I am on my 3rd Pyramat gaming chair, no not the on the floor console gaming one but the one that has 4 legs. Has speakers in the head area and a bass in the ass. Crank that sucker up and its hard to focus on the screen when you pull the trigger! Ok coffee jolt has worn off.
  21. Ok maybe??????? Hopefully I have not jinxed myself with the TM. I just spent a hour downloading A10 latest and the installer says something is corrupted so I am going to do it all over again........ Once I get the sim reinstalled and shake the rust off some brain cells and can remember how to get this gun back in the air I have a feeling that a impulse buy may be in sort order.
  22. One reason I ask is I was one of those first in line when TM first came out with their very expensive hotas setups with Falcon 3.0. Money was tight back then but I fell for the whole metal and aiircraft grade pots ect. Bottom line the stuff was crap. I resisted the knee jerk impulse to buy the Warthog for that reason. Seems like my gut feeling was right. Thanks guys.
  23. Ok I bought DCS A10 first day and after a month I pulled a Houdini, disappeared and now I am back. I NEVER buy new hardware until its been out a little while but its been a few months so thought I would check. I did a quick web search and have read everything from its the greatest thing ever to its a overpriced hat rack. What bothered me most is some have had 3 and 4 throttles stop working, hat switches lock and break. So from owners and those who have been watching the TM Hog since its release is it worth buying or should I stick to my thrusty X52 I cannot seem to break after years of abuse? Thanks for any info and replies.:)
  24. I cannot figure the brakes out either. My Saitek pedals were flipping the plane so I figured out how to get rid of the roll/pitch axis. Now they seem on or off like they are sticking. I am now back to using the <> keys. I would love to be able to taxi and brake on landing but I have exceeded my P.I.T.A . threshold on this issue.
  25. Great fun and by as* is sore from sitting so long :pilotfly: Some MSC questions I have ran into and need some answers. I am using GAME mode with realistic flight model. What are the keys to cycle ground targets forwards and back? Especially back which if there is alot of targets can take a long time. I find myself going through all the targets just to see the one I think I am targeting. Which ties into.. Whats the view target key? I currently watch the bombs fall but I want to see the specific target I have locked. Is there a key or switch to zoom in/out the mfd maverick screen? Would make identifying the targets easier. [game mode] When using the editor and starting mission on ground I have began inside a hanger with the doors closed. How do I open them? I still cannot use my Saitek rudders to properly operate the toe brakes. I was told to edit out the axis which was flipping the plane. I did that now I have no brakes that I can tell. Thanks ahead of time. Thats it for now until I begin another marathon A-10 session.
