  1. A lot of the fluff and eye candy is optional but it all needs to be. I have the horsepower to run it and like it but it adds up. I can see some programmer spending months to free up some frames only to have someone else add better explosions. smoke, rain etc and ending up losing 5 frames. Repeat till min spec trips the breaker at the nuclear power station. Release a "update" which undos the previous "updates". Repeat.....
  2. I simply hit cnt e 3 times. Much more exciting. Besides you cannot get out any ways.
  3. I prefer to just eject. Much more exciting besides someone obviously superglued your butt to the seat so you can't even get out so whats the point.
  4. I will trade you autostart for getting the canopy to open/close. Once I am done posting I am going to grab my AI wingman and wrap a pair of chocks around his neck. He refuses to take off with me, refuses to attack and on landing simply hovers and then nose dives vertically into the runway. I dunno maybe reload the Harrier. Make sure there is nothing else bound to that function. Not sure if the various degrees of realism effect it. Auto start/stop are under cheat and I have them bound to switches on my Warthog.
  5. Your settings are way to high. That rez is a odd one, double check it. Make sure your HD has plenty of space. Do all the usual things, turning off back ground progs, latest drivers, blow out computer of dust, don't get carried away with overclocking but be mid range etc... On the settings screen hit the default LOW and test. I run a dedicated sim rig and avg 120+ on all maps/aircraft but add AI and or weather and forget it. Turn traffic low, msaa 2, preload all the way right "full", smoke, trees, clutter try 1/2. If it is running smooth and you can maintain 30 thats good. I would take a butter smooth 30 over a 100+ but jerky and crashing any day.
  6. I am also now getting the dreaded micro pauses. The old familiar "cannon burst" pause and also been noticing other explosion related ones. These things are sure pretty but not at the expense of immersion at the peak of a event. Same with the touch down pause many sims have. Wish I could turn all that fluff off.
  7. :pilotfly: Always the one to peek at the test questions and your Xmas gifts hmmmmmm?? :suspect: Here is something to ponder for those who clicked and looked any ways. "It takes a big man to cry... It takes a BIGGER man to laugh at him."
  8. Flip a coin. I am only SP was having NO crashes except when running VR at 4k. Lowered the res, fixed. Then after the latest big "update" I crash at times VR, no VR... that make no sense. One time when I dropped weapons, a few when changing views, here and there when doing random things. Up until the last update issues were the usual things but after spending 30 minutes making a basic mission, 30 to get to target only to CTD is leading me to take a month off or until the next update. Good luck.
  9. I flew helis IRL and on occasion the field's location could go zero zero very quickly with fog. Often we would go to white hot and follow railroad tracks that retained heat from the day's heat. Don't recall the exact distances but in thick fog with no rvr 1/2 mile easy. Arrowhead systems like the Apache systems was even better. I remember over the Bulldog MOA S of Shaw AFB we would watch hunters shining flash lights for deer and be able to see moonlight reflecting off of illegal stills from 5000 agl @ 1 mile+. Light /heavy rain disrupts sensor's abilty fairly drastically. That was mid 90s. Todays Lynx high-resolution synthetic aperture radar use " I heard from a friend of a friend" on unmanned recon types has scary high rez in all types of environments. Basically x ray abilites.
  10. IRL I flew everyday for years from E to W in the evenings and W to E in the mornings. Properly simulated 3/4 of all day flights you would not see anything and especially now mostly smog, haze and pollution. I use to cheer when in ifr or the brief pleasure of busting through a big cloud.
  11. Funny thing is that if the small update from ED did NOTHING. Say it was just a harmless empty file and ED had a changelog that said this small update increased performance, loading times, stutters and improved graphics many would rave about their better performance. Some would say theirs was worse and many would hate the new graphics changes. New problems and also miracle fixes would be popping up all over the forums. BTW- My Harrier vapor issue is still there but it comes and goes according to a flip of the coin. Been doing this since the last big update. Again read above.
  12. I am convinced there is a issue with ground handling on specific settings or maybe set ups. I watch videos of admitted "newbies" who to/ land and track straight as a arrow. I have 1200+ tail dragger hrs IRL, been flying sims since Microprose F-119, have a top of the line HOTAS setup and 3 outta 4 landings I end up sideways.,WTH? What are people's rudder settings?" This plane eats up runways so I cannot "stab" the brakes. If I apply even pressure it is bound to pull so I must get on the other side harder which leads to the left to right dance and eventual sideways slide. All I can do is land with airbrakes on, nail the numbers, hit the chute and then the emergency brake.
  13. Never had the patience to use atc. Compared to the "other" ATC, these controllers seem like they are taking slow pills and doing shots of stupid.
  14. FYI W10/ i7 6700k overclocked 16gig/ Nvidia 1080ti gtx overclocked/ HD SSD. 4k tv 32''. Run DCS at 1080. Previous ver of DCS no crashes, ran smooth all ver and VR. Only running 4k caused issues especially in VR. After the "update" initial loading was longer and I get a occasional freeze. Appears to be totally random. Did not test until the latest "fix". I have not been flying much simply because tbo I am tired of not knowing if its me or as we are constantly reminded the beta version. Flew yesterday for 2 hrs and had 2 freezes requiring closure. IIRC one during after landing and during a view change and the other when using vr and when going from a controller button change and back into the sim. All I can say is there is a issue but I also had the occasional issue with Prepar3d maxxed with Orbyx 4k and Fallout 4 4k textures. I would try using the default settings on low, do some flying and then bump it up. Make sure your card's fan is set and it's not overheating, case has good air flow. For me the res + high graphics= really tough on system. Adding VR makes it worse. Start with low graphics and move up. Keep a eye on temps and good luck.
  15. I do not use the hand controllers and have no problem. After that disaster of last wk I lost my all my latest profiles for my Warthog and do recall having used that "ui layer" now that you mention it. This time iirc I used camera forward and camera back for zoom in/out and the cockpit cam for/cockpt back on the stick for simply adjustments. At any rate fyi they are all working on my side for a zm in/out function.
  16. Might be big but it took away some of my hotas saved settings??? Only flown 1x in a wk and just a quick "lets see what happens" shake down hop today. But yeah another $$$$ SSD drive is in my very near future.
  17. TBH I am scared to do anything at this point. Taking a wait and see position at this point. At best a "fix" to undo or maybe even have the update correct it and then update. At worst have to reinstall and wait for the server madness to settle down. I have most everything so it is both $$$ and large.
  18. Zimmerdylan you might be in the wrong genre. Sims have and will always be expensive. I remember when F-19 stealth fighter by Microprose came out in 1988 I bought a Tandy 1000 RSX computer from Radio Shack running at a amazing 25 mhz for about $2000 which in today's money is just over $4200 :shocking: Ran ok but if you wanted a few more lines, triangles, dots etc for the "high" graphic quality you needed the fastest of the fast systems. A year later A-10 tank killer came out and I was back at the store. The salesmen were all in amazement and ask "Why the hell do you need all that power?" Dropped another $2 grand+. I remember them joking that gamers made the bulk of their high end sales. People forget MS Flight sim has been around 35 years and even with Lockheed freaking Martin's programmers tweaking and gutting it, the sim still requires the fastest of fast to get the most out of it. My version is almost 200 gigs. Hell just my TM Warthog controller cost more than my 1st car. Wait till you try VR and see the minimum requirements to run that.
  19. Think 2x 1st. I kept 1.5 because as the latest update reminds us 2.5 it is a beta. Yes you can always reinstall but what a pita. I am getting ready to buy another ssd and use one just for the sim.
  20. It's called Prepard3d and Orbyx. I understand the desire but lets keep DCS first and foremost a military simulator. No more unneeded eye candy which uses cycles, memory and dev time.. Took forever to get the stutter out of the guns every time you pulled the trigger. Seems when the programmers finally give us some breathing room that can be spent on more ai, better models, weather etc, it is quickly gobbled up by stuff like this. If added PLEASE make it optional. My computer already starts groaning if I even look at the VR goggles. I mean really if I had to choose betreen some goats or deer or more ai or ...well anything, I will choose,.... anything else.
  21. Microsoft Flight Simulator was out for 3 5 years. Let that sink in 35. Then as we know Lockheed Martin has been working on it and although stable is still just a civilian flight sim with very basic flight models for the most part and nothing like DCS. Don't be afraid to speak out or vent but understand doing sims right is difficult and always has been. They were the flagship of every developer but all but went extinct due to that difficulty and also those really in to simming are REALLY into simming. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it will never be done. If someone says so, then that is a sign it's over.
  22. I will add some but remember DCS and sims in general are worse than most games in that the smallest of things can effect performance even on similar machines. I also have a i7 1080ti with a ssd. 1st search and read through the forums and on YT. Many, many screenshots and vids of settings. Then you will have a starting place. From there it really is up to what you do. For example if flying alone or with a wingman just burning holes in the sky I can run 4k and almost everything cranked. A mission I make with only a few ai, some targets, again full. However, flying the complex, heavy mission bog the machine down quick. You have to adjust. Shadows, eye candy, tree density, cars etc. VR is another beast all together. You have to use a totally approach to making it look 1/2 way decent yet keep up the performance. Don't be afraid to try or use the stock settings, in your case high. Then adjust as needed. The forums,Google and YT will keep you busy. Just don't get to bogged down and fly more than tweak. That said this last update royally screwed things up so be aware. Good luck.
  23. Don't................... Read the issues 1st.
  24. I done said it but I am ANGRY AT ME. We know you never dive in 1st day for a driver or any game patch. I know everyone is angry but it's simming. Hell, I have been sick 2 wks and today was my 1st day feeling good enough to fly only to UPDATE w/o checking 1st. Worst part for most is in only 2 or so days most will forget all their key bindings. That said... I remember when a bad "patch" now called "update" or "Beta" meant the blues screen of death and being down for 2 days. Man I would hate to be QC for the Hornet.
  25. Area 51 and Nellis had to be removed do to national security issues. It's in the readme. Not really. Just make it night and you will not miss em.
