  1. I have had some wierdness where DCS loads the initial screen for maybe 5 seconds and then goes black. I can see it on the tv but the goggles are black. Rebooted the computer and worked fine. It has done that 3x.
  2. Thanks. I tell ya, I am right up there with the fastest computers and shadows puts a world of hurt in VR. I can basically max most things out and tbo it looks about the same. But if I go from flat to even LOW shadows my computer starts choking. I would imagine the majority of VR users are really struggling. I am not even flying missions but just enjoying VR and the flight models. I have Normandy and Nevada and might need to head back out to the desert. TBO I am not that impressed with the latest map.
  3. I will try that this evening. I sure appreciate it.
  4. Flat
  5. For what its worth.. On my last bday the big 50 I decided to treat myself and went to Falcon Northwest website. Be warned its computer porn so hide your CC. I then proceeded to click and built the fastest system and future proof I could. Yes you could build that same system for 1/2 but dammit you only live once I said. Enough on my splurging and on to the ram. I have been crashing both DCS,Fallout 4 and multiple Oculus VR games. In DCS it was not during the flying but only when changing screens or exiting. I have 16 gigs DDR4 3000 and so does my 15 yr old nephew so he yanked his out and brought my i7 up to 32 gigs. No change and I still had a crash or 2 with that low on memory close some programs Windows warning box. So I called Falcon and talked to one of their tech guys who is also a SIMMER. Picked his brain and he uses 16 gigs and most he deals with have 16. If buying a new system then yeah, get 32 but ram is high now and can easily be bought later and snapped in. However he suggest get it ALL at once and the exact kind. He has seen even the same name/specs etc act up. He actually talked me out of getting 32 gigs. I figure he custom builds rigs to customers specs that have deep pockets all day and feels at this point 32 gigs is not needed.
  6. Just bought it last night also. Is this only me or a known issue? When turning toward the sun the entire side of the canopy glass looks like its fogging up and then becomes white. Not glare opaque looking that sunglasses would take care of but someone hit it with a coat of white spray paint or that fake snow in a can.
  7. I have that map view that shows your position centered and racing across the screen. Great to take a quick look at your current position but problem is it is zooms all the way IN so I am forced to grab the mouse, zoom it out, slide the map around and recenter my aircraft. Then when you come back to it the next time its BACK to the original ZOOMED in and you have to repeat the above again. Is there a better map view that shows your position centered and zoomed out an STAYS that distance? Can the above map view be set at a specific +- zoom ans STAY?? Thanks...........
  8. Learn as much as you can before overclocking. Leave ram timing alone. Leave the registry alone. Don't mess around in the bios unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing. If one has a modern card and uses MSI Afterburner for example then yes, its safe to read up on what a moderate oc is and bump it up. Still the gains are not all that much. Worst case you crash your computer and cannot even get into bios or safe mode. I know this. More often than not you notice graphics oddities, crash to desktops, overall wierdness. So yeah fool around with moderate settings on your card but tbo don't expect much. Simply reducing settings will do FAR more than any amount of hours of tweaking and overclocking. If I sound negative its because I have been simming since Microprose F-119 and was well known at the local computer store. They LOVED simmers. Bottom line is read the forums and you will see that a lot of us with some of the fastest machines made are having to make trade offs especially with VR.
  9. I waited and waited and finally got the TM Warthog and its the best money I ever spent. QUALITY and you can never have enough buttons in DCS. That said I have retired my X-52 but of all my purchases it's probably the one thing I really got my moneys worth out of. Lets see I used it HARD for FS9, FSX, for a good 10 years. Dropped the stick on a hardwood floor and bought another X-52 Hotas without blinking. Now at least 15+ years STILL using the original throttle with the new stick. The new throttle sits in a box never used. The pedals are also tough and lasted me 10+ years of HARD heli usage. I can easily recommend the X-52 which imo is the best value there is. I cannot speak on the newer Saitek but I cannot think of anything not just joysticks that have improved from things made a decade ago.
  10. Got 1/2 way through that before I realized it was not about how to use Mavericks on the Harrier.

    32Gb vs 16Gb?

i7/6700k OC 4.7 ASUS Z170 DELUX/16 DDR4 FAST MSI 1080TI. 15 yr old nephew who builds his own rigs since 12 yanked 16 out of his machine and into mine. Saw no difference with 32. He did notice my SSD had only 75 gigs free so he freed up 150g and set the virtual memory to the rec but static where both numbers are the same. That test saved me $300+ for the ram. I run smooth as silk VR. Some tried/true for stutters are stop overclocking and ram ocing to stock see if it helps., Blow out the machine for dust, turn off anti virus, reload vid drivers and try prev version. Turn off any sound card enhancements. Run sim at bare minmums and start adding things one by one. Disable those "voodoo" tricks and run vanilla and see. Disable any magic programs that promise better fps/cores/etc. Simming is like frying bacon naked.
  12. The two solutions are to simply place some Tunguskas and other anti air sites across the map and you will not even notice the graphics. If the tree colors and shadows still trigger you, turn up the enemy ai's difficulty by one. Repeat until cured. Solution 2 is to fly only at night. Trees, water, clouds etc look incredible. You are welcome.
  13. 3.AM I gave up and just left the system on and went to bed only to wake up to a error message. The SSD WAS FULL!!!! Why o why did DCS name everything so similar. DCS WORLD, DCS WORLD OPEN APHA, OPEN BETA, OPEN ALPHA BETA ALPHA, WORLD BETA ALPHABETA ALPHA OPEN WORLD HAHAAHAHAHHA. How about... The OLD DCS, The new DCS.... The latest, greatest DCS thats going to really be a pita version.......
  14. CC is a great prog but be careful when cleaning registries. I have learned the hard way it is best to leave it alone as any perceived benefit is FAR outweighed by the real chance you can totally hose your system. You might not notice but one day a obscure program will call up a command and it was removed by CC. Just be dam sure you know what you are doing when fooling with the reg. A 1/4 second mouse click can cause all kinds of problems. I know this hahhaha....
  15. I was frazzled last night from both a illness and imo DCS could have used better names for the various versions which sound similar. I found that folder and saved it, then had to copy it. move it to another drive for later because instal prog said I already had the terrain installed. Took FOREVER to DL so I left the computer on and went to bed. Of course when I woke and checked it was a error message. MY SSD WAS FULL!!!! So back to square one. Been doing this since I had a Tandy 25MZ running Microprose F-119 so I am use to being kicked in the crotch by our beloved hobby.
  16. Like most I saw the huge DCS WORLD AVAILABLE so I downloaded it. I had read somewhere in this total mess that after install and everything was carried over it deleted the "old" version to save space... Where the hell are they?? I see all my planes/helis but no Vegas or Normandy. I loaded the editor and see no saved missions I made or any Vegas/Normandy maps to edit. Are they history and do not come with this new version? Are they hidden somewhere for me to find. Also noticed I will need to remap all my planes/ helis. Should have waited.
  17. One of the latest Sony 42' iirc. One of the issues is sitting to close which can cause nausea and probably not good. This what I did. I have a typical work desk with a top and pull out horiz table for work thats on rollers. Sitting on top that large tv is way to close so I pulled the desk about 3 ft from the wall and behind it put a small maybe 3x3 ft table. The tv sits on it and I put foam squares again 3x3 made for mechanics to kneel on to bring it up to perfect eye height. This puts the tv some 4 ft or so away. I am VR now but track ir I got figured out also. The tv is to far away and to high and low to attach to top and bottom. If interested in how I achieved optimal placement and how let me know. I can also track down the tv's box and give you the exact model. Been using large tvs no expense spared for a decade so feel free to ask.
  18. When I see english pit I will buy it within 30 minutes.
  19. I just set the default "VR setting and flew 30 minutes with no ctds. TBO I cannot tell much a of difference in textures from high to med. The only one I cannot deal with is the msaa OFF that has to be either 2 or 4 iirc. I manually set the page file "huge" so that should not be the issue. All that said, as most I have way way to much random "stuff" running in the background. I also on this latest flight set DCS high priority in task manager. I wonder if that is a placebo effect?
  20. I7 6700 Asus Z170 Deluxe MS 1080ti 16 gigs ddr4 Win 10 latest patches. Noticed Fallout 4 crashing running at 4k so backed down to 1080 and no crashes. Kept getting windows oom error. Now DCS the latest 2. whatever is started to crash with a similar message although I have always ran it at 1080. Nothing else opened like browsers are other progs etc just using the Oculus. What seems to be the biggest culprit? I think going to 32 gigs is not the answer. I only fly single and if I do create a mission the ai units are less than a dozen if that. Thanks....
  21. Turn on CC for English. Landing at approx 11:40 This user took the time to do some 20 or so "how to" videos on all aspects of operation. Once must assume he has a lot of stick time. This is his HOW TO PERFORM a proper landing in this plane so I watched very carefully to see how it is supposed to be done and correct my mistakes which judging from some post I had to have been making . Watch a real pro do it especially the phase of chute, braking to stop.
  22. I have a large 42 inch tv and it's to far away for trackir. I sat looking straight and then built up the base it sat on until it worked fine. Then cut a block of wood and dble sided taped it to it. It sits on a desk with the tv behind it at the right level sitting on a table. I eventually found a clear piece of clear plexan and the track ir now sits on it secured by shoe goo approx 3 ft from my head on that table. The head sensor is taped to the brim of a cap. Do what you gotta do....
  23. Millions of products using AI controlled complex programs that read trends and anticipate buying, stock levels etc. I routinely see price differences of 25- even 50% betreen the various sellers. I also noticed there are 2 types of pedals and see no physical difference. My brake spring has broken and will not "snap back". No biggie but yeah I noticed a noticable price difference betreen the 2.
  24. After the WOW factor settles down reality sets in. I also play Fallout 4 with a lot of mods including 4k textures. Looks incredible but I started getting the every so often CRASH due to memory errors despite a ultra fast rig, MSI 1080ti 32 gigs ram ssd etc. Back it down to 1080 p and its never crashed. Same with DCS VR. I will take consistency over ransom ctds any day. Looks great to me and runs smoother, runs cooler.... Oh yeah, Sony 42 inch top of the line, latest greatest 6 months ago so its probably 1/2 the price. by now. I refuse to look back hahaha.
  25. I watch the "Grim Reapers" on YT who fly DCS aircraft and go for realism and planning out difficult missions. They fly all the aircraft and some no doubt have hundreds if not thousand of hours. On their latest air to ground large mission that involved F-5s I watched some land all yup, all over the place. Some at less than 50, chute out and right about when you would start braking being fish tailing with the back end wanting to swap ends. Not going to post any more on it unless I come up with setting that work or some method that works every time. Not particularly use to leaving staying on the runway to chance. BTW- I will dble check but iirc when I set the brakes and press them I can see the bar move back and forth. It does not appear to snap on and off. Have not flown in a week but will soon and see what is going on. Thanks for the reply and info. Jim
