Only the best flight simulator in the world can offer this realism and these visuals: Most of the time I fly the instant-missions and the engine is already running so I cannot open the bonnet with the rotors spinning, but when a mission begins with shut-off turbines I always enjoy the best simulated engine ever created under the hood for some time before starting her up It´s like looking into a superb casemod computer with tempered glass side panels.

Did it have a Knight Rider super pursuit flight mode with afterburner for Mach 3 on sea level and 120.000 feet maximum ceiling altitude? I think this is a bit out of spec for an AH-64, only the Bell 222 can do this....

intended as is Question about the new boresight ring design
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Most (75%) of the Apache videos on YouTube are from the release month, and now and then I spot an interesting detail that catches my interest because it looks or functions a bit different compared to all the tutorial videos. I love extensive and realistic cockpit preparations and flight planning, that´s why the boresight function is so awesome too, and realistic. So these rings are called "bullseye rings" - I wonder how this looks like in VR. (Too bad I have sold the VR and currently no headset .... the Apache surely is PERFECT in VR....) So the newest bullseye rings version is the most realistic version? Wonderful - a good aim is the best start in the morning. Everyone only thinks about the A-10 as the only "flying cannon" - forgetting that the Apache is one too, even with the same 30mm caliber, but with way more sophisticated almost sniper-like visual zoom and holographic IHADSS overlay targeting technology. -
intended as is Question about the new boresight ring design
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Someone getting confused by aligning three rings should not fly a flight simulator But this was changed not long ago, while using the Apache demo I still had the three realistic rings. Hm maybe I should switch back to the Beta version, a few days ago I still had the ring magic in the cockpit. -
work in progress AH-64D Japanese skin glitch
JetCat replied to zerO_crash's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hm my full JGSDN Japanese fleet looks normal. Sorry I don´t know what details on the texture files must be fixed, otherwise I could help you. Maybe you should also contact Roy Campbell to ask him for a tip what to fix on this texture, his Codec frequency is 140.85. -
intended as is Question about the new boresight ring design
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Yes this is an older video that´s why I am curious why the Boresight was changed. I watch a lot Apache videos to learn all features of this simulated masterpiece. -
I hope you have a great weekend pilots, there was a small change in boresight that came with the patch. Before the boresight resembled a tunnel of light with three rings in different layers of depth, now the three rings are fixed together and move together when boresighting the IHADSS. Why was the good old tunnel of light I have gotten used too changed?

Because I fly cargo in Flight Simulator 2020 this heli caught my interest. And the video looks more than promising and hyper-detailed. Are there any interesting 4k screenshots available somewhere to have a sneak-peak at the cockpit systems?

not realistic My APU start-up-effect and flaming exhaust is missing
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Ah thanks for the explanation realism is the most important factor so in this case it is good it was removed, even if it looked cool. -
How was game flight mode for the Apache? Was it almost like sitting in the front seat having George turn the wheel?

Hm you are looking the wrong videos here are a few cat-recommendations to become a better hunter.

WHAT THESE TURBINES LOOK THAT AWESOME?!! IMPRESSIVE!!! I have never zoomed in so close, the F2 camera always get´s a bit out of camera angle when wanting very close look under the hood. Thanks for this screenshot finally I see the new turbines in their full glorious glory. And I hope the faulty 3D-model of the Longbow radar will get fixed too soon and brought back into the same glorious photorealistic magnificence as the rest of this awesome helicopter. New screenshots from today, linear motion tracker compensator training for very fast moving targets. Many missiles missed, 40-50mph is maybe the limit for these missiles or otherwise a point of about ~10 yards in front of the target must be lased for impact. Fast moving target, linear motion tracker. And the first deserved promotion.

not realistic My APU start-up-effect and flaming exhaust is missing
JetCat posted a topic in DCS: AH-64D
Hi pilots, the awesome flame-effect a few seconds while the Apache starts the APU is missing. The YouTube Apache showcasing all it´s awesome details and effects has it: Must this be activated somewhere in the graphics or special menu? All graphics settings are rather high (not max). Thanks for your tips -
Can you fly the AH-64D with a gamepad controller?
JetCat replied to maverick90's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Adding a gamepad for the countless complex controls and several sticks and buttons of the TADS is a great idea!! I simply don´t have enough coolie hats on my HOTAS (plus none of them are analog) for the complex TADS - adding a joypad would add two perfectly fine analog coolie hats. -
Yes for pure visual aesthetics it would be awesome to have empty rails for Hellfire and rockets and empgy fuel tanks - to fly with the style but without the weight, very useful for screenshots and when flying just for fun in hot areas like Nevada.

Some questions and perhaps frustrations with this module
JetCat replied to Typhonus2's topic in DCS: AH-64D
The trim should always be reset after a full landing, otherwise it will do an uncontrolled surprise tilt in one surprise direction as soon as it begins to hoover -
Yes all screens are switched on like they should be I think I have seen the TADS on too when moving around inside the virtual cockpit, and I see the upper half of the MFDs and the radio screen of the front cockpit always while flying I always set the cockpit viewpoint as high as possible for the maximum view outside and situational awareness. (That´s why it is important to have them fully animated for realism and immersion).

Today I have finally finished the BlackSquare Piston and Turbine Duke overhaul. Maybe soon I will do some more repaints and cockpit variants with my beloved Apache The F-16 cockpit has also turned out almost factory-new but still keeps the slightly used look for photorealism. Unfortunately my cockpits are never really factory-new (A-10) but slightly used, like for example the visual style of this F-16. I personally want this for my Apache too so maybe you have to just wait a bit until you get a refurbished Apache cockpit..
-
Making glass a bit more "glassy" is a beautiful graphics effect and gives a more immersive cockpit feeling. I have seen the Apache had more reflections and glass-feeling in it´s early release day videos (even the glass in the middle, between the two cockpits was visible), but all these in my opinion great looking glass effects from the older Apache vids from 2 years ago are now almost 99% removed. I also haven´t noticed any glass effects like for example the F-16 has inside the Hind cockpit canopy. But these canopy effects look really good - especially when having a bit of gold or otherwise coloured tint, so I too think these awesome baked-in glass effects of cockpit canopies should be an optional ---> ON feature for people who like that.

The misaligned letter "i" in the MARINES label is now fixed with all letters having the correct identical spaces in between and a few nuts and bolts fixed. The USMC HMLA Grey livery is one of the best and worth the effort.

Time to get these awesome new maintenance hatches too get a real sneak-peak of the inner workings of an Apache

More about my favorite helicopter... One of my favorite liveries, but the space between I and N in the MARINES logo looks off and way too small compared to the space between the other letters. I am going to fix that tomorrow because otherwise a perfect livery.

Some questions and perhaps frustrations with this module
JetCat replied to Typhonus2's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Unfortunately it does not get easier, the tilting over is as unpredictable like on the first day of flying even two weeks later. Starting and flying is awesome, but hoovering or doing VTOL-landings ---- these are tasks still impossible with this helicopter type. Unlike the Hind that hoovers like a picture of a helicopter that was nailed into the air (plus also having the bonus of mini-trim-steps like an airplane available for smoothly going sideways or forward with on button-press) the Apache is impossible to be brought and kept into a stable hoover. When it comes to a halt and close to 0 knots it begins tilting into every direction like crazy, flying backwards and other things. So a few modifications and a change of flying tactics where necessary: First step is using cable ties to shorten the spring of the joystick to make it a springless joystick that does not center anymore. Otherwise it gets incredible tiring constantly fighting against the joystick´s pushback. On most joysticks the spring cannot be removed so cable ties is an easy and quick solution. The second step necessary is creating joystick axis curves to slow down the helicopters stick movements by -50%, and also limit the movement of every axis by -50% to make maximum pitch and roll deflection impossible. This gets rid of the erratic way to fast and uncontrollable movements of the Apache and makes every input now feel smooth and steady and predictable and heavy. The horse is now slowly tamed. Force trim is still in heavy use even with a spring-less joystick, especially to always re-center the tail rotor to changing collective main rotor torque settings. The third step is understanding that making the Apache hoover like the Hind seems impossible, it will start random tilting in every direction at zero knots. That´s why an airspeed of at least 20 knots forward is necessary for the Apache to remain predictable and perfectly stable - so if it hates hoovering so much why even hoover at all, and not land it like a slow Flight Simulator 2020 Cessna instead from now on? The new Apachessna lands great with this trick, the only things to take care of is avoiding the vortex ring state and not becoming too fast while flying down to the runway. Here we have the first successful night instrument flight landing in a rainy foggy night with low viz. The ground effect stops the descend rate and makes every landing smooth as butter. On the ground with a certain amount of collective the Apache becomes very unstable again and will tilt over to one side for no reason right after touching down - so pressing the collective lever fully down half a second before the wheels touch the ground is crucial for a successful landing. Awesome - landing it like a Cessnapache functions flawless! And it has wheels so why not using it´s wheels for this new style of landing? And we have a perfect butter smooth landing with no broken parts. -

Some questions and perhaps frustrations with this module
JetCat replied to Typhonus2's topic in DCS: AH-64D
A lot of practice and the magic trim reset button now gives good take-offs, smooth easygoing flights, even more or less stable hoovering is no problem (as long as it slowly flies forward - with 15 knots or so.) Weather vaning, vortex ring state and other details are perfectly simulated, DCS is clearly the best helicopter simulation out there. But hoovering with 0 knots is extremely difficult in the Apache because the heli suddenly wants to random tilt in every direction the more the speed goes down, and landing is almost impossible because of the same reason. George must do the landings. No matter how perfect the Hind can be flown this knowledge cannot be transfered to the Apache - thank you very much George for always bringing me down safe and secure.
