Good morning pilots, a strange problem has occured and is ongoing in my DCS for a few days now... I cannot launch my favorite Nevada Area 51 map. When I start the F-18 Hornet Nevada missions like "Navigation" or "Training day" -> crash to desktop as soon as the loading screen appears. When I choose the F-16 Viper mission "Home on the Range" in Nevada -> crash to desktop as soon as the loading screen begins. Send crash report? Yes No. It `s a fresh DCS install (final 2.5.6) non beta version. What should I do to get my Nevada map up and running again? The DLC´s are reinstalling now which will probably take the whole day but what should I do when the problem persists - switch to the DCS Beta version and re-download everything? Have a nice day

The first step that takes the most time is cleaning up the original cockpit textures. (Which means remove 90% of all this too much over-the-top scattered-literally-everywhere scratches, dirt and rust on aluminium and plastic to make the cockpit more appealing neat clean and comfortable, but still keep some wears and tears to keep it realistic looking). This is almost finished and the dark grey ejection seat is implemented too. The second step is doing the perfect shades of grey to create an interesting two-tone look with middle grey and black just like my Hornet cockpit. This will become the true Jedi master cockpit. The third step is creating a stealthy black cockpit with LCD-screens, black ejection seat and a Falcon emblem on the fur of the ejection seat to make the stealthy black cockpit a little bit more personal. So I can upload three Falcon (or Viper) cockpit variants when it´s finished ... I can add your picture into the cockpit if you want and re-upload it again for you, but it will take a few days until my Viper cockpits are finished.

SUCCESS!! Yesss finally! The exact alpha channel from D:\Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\Mods\aircraft\F-16C\Cockpit\Textures -> F-16C-CPT-TEXTURES.zip must be used The flat green shine going over the complete texture is now gone with the correct default alpha channel, and the green illumination is now fully functional. Now the F-16 can ascend to the next level! And rise even above the F-18 Gun Metal Grey texture! Phew making the new texture will probably take another 2-3 days filled with intense Photoshop work and Creepy Pastas from YouTube. I will make a middle Gun-Metal-Grey texture similar to the F-18 Hornet´s nest and a stealthy black texture and I hope the F-16 can ascend and rise so intense that I can call it an F-17! I have made one quick testing-textur with two X on the footrest to proof that it works perfectly fine when using the original default F-16 texture alpha channel.

It is a problem with the alpha channel. The alpha channel is changed to a different look when saved with the Nvidia DDS tool, that´s why always the original F-16 textures must be used when making a texture. I liked this cockpit here very much: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/de/files/3318437/ And used this as a base. But this was not meant as some lazy minor changes and re-upload as my own file - I loved the shinyness of the MDF screens and the little details he has added to the cockpit and it took me at least five hours or so to remove all the brown desert sand stains and overhaul all files, remove the scratches from the metal and plastic material, and implement a lot of my own textures too (like the Gun Metal Gray ejection seat I made and more). So now I finally know that the original default texture with the original default alpha channel must always be used as a base file to create a new Viper cockpit. You can find the original F-16 textures here: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\Mods\aircraft\F-16C\Cockpit\Textures They are inside F-16C-CPT-TEXTURES.zip. This is one of the textures (primarely for the light grey cockpit panels and the footrest.) I am still trying to figure out how to solve this problem that everything lights up green. The third picture is the alpha channel and I think the alpha channel is wrong because it should be a more or less translucent picture.

Can someone please tell me why repainting the Hornet creates no problems at all - while all textures for the F-16 Viper (no matter if cockpit-textures or outside liveries) are destroyed and get some strange neon-green shine as soon as I change the slightest pixel?

New overhauled clean black F-16 cockpit
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Please don´t use it - I found out as soon as the light in the cockpit is switched on everything turns neon-green. Unlike in my F-18 Hornet cockpit and other repaints the usual method of saving textures does not work in the F-16, and until I don´t know the correct .DDS format or conversion tool for the F-16 unfortunately this cockpit will not function properly. This is how the textures looks like when any of the floodlights are switched on - I am sorry I have tried every imaginable conversion and .DDS exporting with Gimp and Photoshop and Intel TextureWorks tool and it just does not work no matter what format or compression I use for the textures. -
Hi, maybe someone can help me with repainting the F-16 cockpit. No matter what .DDS texture format I try (DXT3, DXT5, BC7 DX11+ with various compressions, BC7 with alpha channel, BC7 without alpha channel, BC7 without any compression, Gimp DDS conversion, Photoshop CS25 DDS exporting tools or compressions) - no matter what I do and try it just does not work in the F-16! I can repaint any other airplane outside and in the cockpit but it does not function in the F-16. No matter what I try every texture looks fully normal, but will turn neon green as soon as I switch on the light on in the cockpit. So please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you very much.

Hi pilots, do you want a nicer-looking F-16 cockpit that is not overly dirty and covered with estimated ~1000 scratches every single square inch of metal and plastic? Clean and comfy and ready to hang on a rearview-mirror car charm tree? Do you want your cockpit nice stealthy black and the ejection seat textures overhauled too? Finally with the new IntelTextureWorks_1.0.4 Photoshop CS25 plugin I could manage to completely overhaul all the textures I want in Flight Simulator 20 and DCS! After that newest The Book of Boba Fett episode "The Return Of The Mandalorian" and after watching these scenes with building and overhauling the racer space ship I absolutely had to redo the F-16 cockpit (for the outside 3D model I already have enough fine variants and tiger-meet and other airbrush designs). Please backup your "default" folder inside your F-16 install, and insert the new freshly overhauled default into: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\Mods\aircraft\F-16C\Liveries\Cockpit_F-16C Fasten your seat belts and enjoy your flight! Download link, hmm I think I will name the download "Version 1.0" because it looks rather finished and without texture bugs or visual glitches, but I am going to make it look more perfect and I will see if I can make the yellow colour tones of these different cockpit elements fully match in 100% and do some other fine details... https://www.file-upload.net/download-14836586/F-16PERFEKTION.zip.html Enjoy

Changes to overload wingbreak mechanic in Beta 2.7.7.15038

That sounds interesting! Maybe I should install the beta version again to get all these awesome new graphics and flight system features -
can not reproduce Retract speed brake is not responsive
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks I will do this when I find a bug. But this time it was my own stupidity It seems like I have accidentally mapped the circuit breaker of the airbrake with one of my joystick buttons, that´s why the airbrake always complete shut off and was not extending nor retracting anymore. I did not even know that DCS has implemented electric circuit breakers into the airplanes - fantastic system depth! Well but my problem is solved, please excuse for bothering I thought it was a bug... -
can not reproduce Retract speed brake is not responsive
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have just flown the F-18 again and still the speed brake comes out but does not react anymore as soon as I try to put it in again (it goes not in and not out anymore, and is completely stuck.) Normally I have to press and hold the button B to extend the speedbrake and hold LSTRG + B to retract, but this does not work anymore. Sorry I have never done this before - how do I make a track replay? Do you mean a video and upload it on YouTube? Yes I have a game recorder installed -
Hi ace pilots, I wanted to tell that the F-18 Hornet speed brake has a bug. When the speed brake on the Hornet is extended, it can no longer be retracted. I have tried every button config (OFF, Retract/OFF, and retract bound to STRG+B or to various of my HOTAS buttons) but the speed brake does not respond anymore after releasing, and stays fully or half extended. Please fix this bug because I need the speed brake at all landings. I wish you a wonderful christmas time, kind regards JetCat

Wishlist for the next helicopter after AH64D
JetCat replied to dr.barber's topic in DCS Core Wish List
The V-22 Osprey in the same superb quality as the Hind. The Osprey is the most interesting, sophisticated and advanced VTOL machine out there, and the fastest. -
The Hind is truly an interesting machine. Since today I am filming my flights and landings to have a better overview what happened. When being in a too fast vertical descent (Vortex Ring state in great height caused by lowering the pitch lever and begin to sink too fast) and adding too much torque after having dropped like a stone for half a minute, the engines are overloaded while the main rotor is getting slower and slower, and the engines will flame out. Also the Hind should not be taken off, hoovered, and flown with full collective, but with half or 3/4 - otherwise one looses tail rotor authority especially in hot areas. The engines loose 10% torque when being exposed to temperatures over 10°C (for every +10°C added to 10°C there will be 10-12% loss of torque power), that´s why the Hind can be flown in Syria only with light load and with not much fuel in the tank. Now I know why I constantly had tail rotor authority losses after VTOL: Because the huge five-bladed rotor has so much torque that the tail rotor cannot compensate in 100% collective, especially in hot areas with limited engine power. But it flies flawless with 60 to 80% collective. My experience with the JetRanger III and the Robin R22 are based on a simpleton and very arcady flight model because there was never any study-level helicopter not for Flight Sim 2004 and also not for Flight Sim X. Just pull the collective pitch full up 100% and fly for hours was the only challenge and the only thing to "learn". That´s why I had many strange experiences flying a REAL simulated heli for the first time instead of some simple one which simulates no failures no overstresses and absolute zero engine rotor and airframe damages at all.

This mod here is better, ideal for people who have no clue about and no interest in that mission editor like me https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3317856/ It just adds the option of having the actual paint job with or without IR supressor in the paint livery list....

The Hind is a superb helicopter and with patience and smoothness and taking precautions against vortex rings very good to fly - but I personally am getting very annoyed by this tail rotor authority loss bug and these constantly moving-on-their-own to max left or right rudders (one YouTuber solved that problem with the faulty rudders by constantly doing trim resets every five seconds - but this only sometimes works and most of the time the heli just keeps yawing in circles). Every second flight the Hind starts yawing in circles after VTOL take-off and just keeps turning in circles even with counter-rudder to the max. This is truly annoying and makes it almost not flyable and I am sure the real Hind is not doing this (because otherwise it would be uncontrollable) - this constant tail rotor authority loss and rudderpedals wandering to max right or max left on their own after one minute of flying and still the helicopter keeps yawing in circles MUST be a bug. But otherwise an outstanding beautyful and well-behaved helicopter, very enjoyable but these wandering off rudder pedals and tail rotor no longer responding and no longer counter-acting the main rotor torque should be patched.

Excellent video, thanks for posting!

Wow thanks for this video! I am really getting super excited now! Look at this marvellous machine - and how new, clean, and well-maintained they are (I hope there will be a brandnew cockpit version to choose from available in the sim.) The MFD screens are very bright and easy readable even during daytime, and have a beautyful violet protection layer on top of the glass I have never before seen on any MFD in any cockpit. What is the purpose of this reddish-violet layer on the glass of the MFD? Scratch protection, glass hardening? While the Mi-24 Hind has more classic seventies analogue technology, the Apache looks and feels like a cockpit from the year 2006 - 2021. I can´t wait to take the pilot´s seat now!
-
Ah a classic Airwolf video having an afterburner on a heli. The Hind would be jealous because she is getting a rotor blade stall on the right side at only 350km/h. Looks like they used the old eighties trick of rotating the film roll 1/3x faster or even in double speed in certain scenes to simulate "super giga ultra hyper speeeeeeeeeed!!!!!!" of certain overpowered "super-machines" not only in all of the Knight Rider seasons, but in Airwolf too. By the way: I want a zombie outbreak combat scenario for the helicopters. Please add placeable zombie characters like the Metal Gear Phantom Pain "puppets" into the mission editor. When having Umbrella Corps liveries and Phantom Pain liveries of course there should also be zombies.

Based on the Hind experience: As long as one is not trying to make a hoover VTOL landing with all the wobbling and tail-rotor-activities and the vortex-ring state always lurking when trying to make the slightest VTOL descent..................... But instead landing the helicopter like it was a small PPL propeller airplane coming in to a runway with 40-60 knots, flaring, touching down with 30-50 knots and braking it to a halt with the wheels on the runway, it will be manageable to control. The landings will be the biggest problem if the vortex ring state is simulated, which means crash and death awaits as soon as even the smallest descent rate while hoovering happens. If the Apache has no vortex ring state simulated well flying and landing this heli will be absolutely easy and without any problems at all. But there is a 14 day trial version so we will see how it behaves and flies.

Is there some kind of demo or try-out day for helicopters?
JetCat replied to JetCat's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Yes it is still very very hard to fly under certain circumstances because of this vortex ring state, and tends to become highly unstable and no longer reacting to rudder and just keep turning in circles as if the tail rotor was damaged when becoming slower or trying to hoover. Some things are easy on the Hind like taxiing hoovering in ground-effect after start and vertikal (or rolling) take-offs. But bringing the Hind to speed after a VTOL (because sometimes it just keeps spinning and spinning in circles even if I give maximum right rudder!) and slowing it down from higher speeds and landing it without getting in a vortex state or even lose the main rotor RPM is very hard. I hope that a flight dynamics patch will stop the strange spinning in circles behaviour sometimes after taking-off as if tail rotor authority was lost completely. I wonder why the Hind is doing this? And yes VR is the best of the best, nothing can beat the superb sitting inside a cockpit feeling in VR -
Good evening jet fighter aces, I have noticed that the cockpit illumination of the Tomcat is no longer working the way it was the last time I have flown her at night. The white and red flood light is no longer working, the red light bulbs mounted under the cockpit cover light up when switching red floodlight on - but the cockpit stays fully dark except gauge illumination (see screenshots.) Plus the cockpit is fully dark at night from the outside view, no HUD no instrument lighting - only the position formation and anti collision lights are visible when looking at the Tomcat at night with the outside camera view., while the cockpit is absolute black. There should be at least a slight red glow coming from the cockpit at night for realism during night flights and while enjoying the superb graphics of the Tomcat in the evening and night time from outside views... Please fix this the next time you update the Tomcat, thanks
