Hi all. :icon_wink :icon_jook :icon_weed  I'd be a great beta tester.................yep, sure would, uh-huh, yep. I could provide all kinds of feedback about how every jet I fly isn't working the way I THINK it should. That every missile I fire is porked. Hell, I'd even provide useful feedback about the depleted urainium rounds. I have a load of freinds who could help with the feedback too. They know someone who talked to someone who is related to someone that watched Discovery Wings and they say that it is not modeled right. Yep, I'd be a great beta tester. So what do you say ED? Having me on the team would just speed the process right along. -KILSEK

Interesting Info on Migs vs. AMRAAMs
KILSEK replied to GGTharos's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi all. First off, you're right. I "looked down" on this pilot. You are absolutely right, He is not incompetent. I apologize. After re-reading this, I understand what you are saying now. It is a good read, but leaves much info out. I am still curious about the RWR. The Mig-29 is going against a F-15. It illuminates him, meaning the Eagle sees the Fulcrum but has not fired. The RWR in the Fulcrum shows a spike at whatever. Isn't there be a period of time(say 1-1/2 to 2 minutes) from when the Eagle first finds, tracks, and locks onto you, then fires? In that period of time, the Fulcrum pilot knows he is detected, up to the point where the AMRAAM goes active, wouldn't you try to break the lock thru whatever means, all the while getting yourself into a good position to fire? But if the Eagle is in TWS, he can fire the AMRAAM without lock which cuts down the reaction time and allow the missile to get close without being detected and evaded. This is what you mean by lack of detail. That's the thing with sim's, you really don't get much factual data to use for modelling purposes. As far as wasting the missile. First I read it as though he did not have a lock so yeah, he may be wasting the missile. After re-reading it, he says, he fires on the closest aggressor. So apparently he knows both of their distances and may have a lock. Again, you're right, always fire back. The only thing I do know about the distance of the engagement is that one jet has fired a missile and the other has not. FWIW, I looked at that site you posted and it looks like it sparked quite a spirited conversation there too. -KILSEK -
Interesting Info on Migs vs. AMRAAMs
KILSEK replied to GGTharos's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi all and GGTharos. So what the article says is that the MiG-29 pilots had working RWR's, and Lieutenant Pilot Milorad Milutinovic waited to shoot the first missile for whatever reason, noticed he was locked on to and had a missile coming at him, then he decided to waste a missile, then pull an evasive 5-7-9g maneuver, by then it's too late and he is hit. It sounds to me like a lack of training. Waiting to fire, for what? It is combat airspace, and I would bet he knew there were no others from his side up there. Ignoring the RWR and not trying to evade that right off the bat, where is his tactic? He don't climb, he don't dive, he don't alter his course one bit. he's just going to go toe to toe with his enemy. He doesn't say that he fires of any chaff so either he forgot or he did not have any. That's what I am getting from this. Yep, I agree, Know Your Enemy. -KILSEK BTW, yeah its a slow connection. Do ya think it has anything to do with uploading the patch, huh do ya, huh, huh. ;) -
Hi all and Gazehound. Han says it has to do with the Cirrus Cloud shadows. So maybe disable shadows and the problem would "disappear". I have the day off so I will be playing here shortly. I'll try different shadow settings, check it out and see what's what. I have been using advanced haze after I read awhile back that basic haze has an effect over runway lights that advanced haze fixed. -KILSEK

Turbulence, Jet Wash, & Refueling.
KILSEK replied to KILSEK's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi all and NEODARK. I d/l it and will check it out tonight. FWIW, I have never used the training tracks. I eventually look at the manual, but only after I have tried something over and over again, and failed at it over and over again. :icon_redf I am kinda hard-headed that way. I always like learning hands on. Thanks, -KILSEK -
Hi all and KuostA. I believe I had a simular problem recently also. Goto control panel->accessability options. Are there any checkmarks in any of those 5 tabs? I have unchecked everything there. I was having the problem of my search feature opening if I hit a particular button on my X45. -KILSEK

Hi all. I would like to have them down the line, but not now. What I would like is one more NATO jetfighter. I have 2 Su's and 2 MiG's to choose from right now. I don't care if is from Europe or the U.S.A, I would be :D to get one more NATO jet. -KILSEK

Hi all. For the past two nights I have been practicing refueling, 1-1/2 nights in the 33 and 1/2 of last night in the 15. I have noticed that as I close in on the tankers there becomes more and more turbulence. I have even noticed draft. As I close in at ~10 MPH/whatever airspeed, at distance I am not closing the gap too fast. In fact from ~2 miles out it takes about 8 minutes to get within 1/2 mile. When I start getting within 1/2 mile of her, I start encountering light turbulence, and now I am starting to make more stick corrections. Shortly thereafter, I start noticing draft. Now there are throttle corrections. I am using flaps & airbrake to try to counter all these effects. These effects are great. I have not hooked up yet, but I will. Short of setting up the refueling waypoints, raising/opening the refueling probe/port, and turning on my exterior lights, is all I have to do? If these effects are modelled for the tankers. Aren't they probably modelled for the jets too? I mean if you start getting so close(on the six) to another jet, wouldn't you start noticing turbulence and draft too? Isn't that jetwash? For the folks who fly aerobatic teams, have you noticed this? I suppose it comes down to how much and when it affects you. Anyway those are my thoughts and questions. -KILSEK

Will the patch fix the zoom problem?
KILSEK replied to SuperKungFu's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi all. Did you take any of the slashes // out of the "view cfg"? -KILSEK -
Hi all. It seems that we like to discuss (read:spirited conversation) about what we want in our sim. I would just like to gauge the community's opinion. -KILSEK Damn, I posted the poll at 3pm, it posted my question at 2:30pm. -KILSEK

Hi all. I have read about what it does. My questions is: How does it apply with what we have and will have (1.1, 1.11, 1.2)? I am thinking that this is not for us. Maybe it is for, as it states, training FACS. Kind of like the way Steel Beasts was developing a tank sim, but it is such a good tank sim that the military took notice and said, "Hey, hook us up"! IIRC, isn't "Falcon Killer" being developed by a Spanish firm that trains real fighter pilots? There may be a connection. I would say, again, that ED is on the right track with their product. They may have gotten the attention of the military. -KILSEK
-
Hi all. I agree with 99% of the above statement, all except the end of story. I pretty much said the same thing. Why it is not end of story is because of this. How real do you want your sim? What is the level of realism/playability you want? What is acceptable to you? And as far as modding weap weights, why don't you just check the little box that says "unlimited weaps"? -KILSEK

Can You Convert Single Missions Into Campaign Missions?
KILSEK replied to enigma6584's topic in User Created Missions General
Hi all and enigma6584. Yep, here you go. Follow the README. Take your template mission and the copy it over and over(all the while renaming them Mission 1, Mission 2, etc, etc,) until you have the number of missions you wnat in the campaign. Then highlight them all and use the utility to copy them into a CMP folder that you named your campaign after. Voila, your campaign. -KILSEK -
Hi all and GGTharos. :icon_wink So what are you saying, huh, huh, huh. :icon_wink Yeah I know. No bomb dropping F-15C. On a serious note, thats the thing isn't it? IRL you are right, no military would consider it an option. But in the game it's there, and you have unlimited aircraft in a game. There is a line and it gets blurred alot with what is real and what you would like it to do. It all comes down to playability. I set-up a mission a few nights ago where I took a Su-33 and "LOPED" it so that it could carry all the rockets and bombs it normally does, on all the pylons. I then had 20 hummers move around Sevastopol at 50MPH. It was a great time. I suppose the question everyone should ask themselves is: How real do I want to play? For me the answer is, as long as the AC, WEAPS, vehicles, and equipment are simulated as close as possible, I am happy. After that. having the option (LOPE) to do more increases the overall playability. More options and I can restrict myself, less options and I feel restricted. Anyway, I am glad to be here Sir. -KILSEK

Matt - Tidbits, or Updates on Patch Progress?
KILSEK replied to Dusty Rhodes's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi all. :icon_weed Psssssh!!! What BS!!! Does ED even listen to us? What we want(and I know cuz I've seen a dozen posts about it) is Chrome rocker panels and 24'' Spinners. How long do we have to wait for ED to release Flaming Cliffs Dub Edition? :) -KILSEK -
Hi all and CountryCowfreak. I like it. While I was watching it I kept thinking of the title. Three went through my mind. 1st) The wheels on the car go round and..... :) 2nd) A day at the airshow 3rd) A call to arms You're on to something with the formation flying. I don't think I have seen any LO/FC vids of that. Anyway I liked it. -KILSEK

Hi all. If I was the head guy at ED I would do Europe, Asia, Aussieland, Africa, South America, and of course the U.S.A./North America, pretty much the whole world. Is that going to happen? Eh probably not too soon. So I'll take the next best thing. -Turkey. Is that going to happen? Eh probably not too soon. I am happy with what we have. It looks great and from all the comparisons folks have done with satellite photos, it is pretty damn accurate. It has plenty of room for A2A, and there is many different types of terrain from A2G battles. Using the Merzifon mod, you can also make it a good long range bomber theater. -KILSEK

Never watched and airshow from the comforts of my home. Hi all and Starlight. Dammit. :icon_wink I was just going to check the boards and then get into a marathon session of LO/FC. Thanks BIGTIME for the link, I'll be watching this for awhile. It looks like the Red Arrows are up. Thanks again. -KILSEK

Hi all and ZoomBoy27. Do you mean like this? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=38610606&m=502109745 It edits the MEInit so that all helos can take off from ships. If so, thank Brit_Radar_Dude. He helped with this some time ago. :icon_jook B_R_D. -KILSEK

Hi all. I am using regular radar and was getting familiar with it again when I noticed something. I was flying the 15 and the 33 and had a set a C-17 and a AN-50 as the targets to get use to it. I got the controls mapped, tracked and shot down both. Then I added a 15 for the 33 to kill and a 33 for the 15 to kill. That is when I came across a situation. In the 15 it takes to about 20 NM for the radar to ID the aircraft and if I have the wrong one selected(the AN-50) when I unlock it the 33 is already firing and then I am going evasive and maneuvering for a FOX-2 shot. I loaded it with sorbitsa(cheated) and of course it used it. Since it used it I was able to HOJ and kill the 33. In the 33, it never ID's the 15 but, since the 15 has a internal ECM, I can lock onto the jam and then fire, thereby avoiding wasting time locking onto the C-17. This got me wondering: Do all aircraft that have or can carry an ECM- carry and use an ECM? If so than it seems that it should always be easy to HOJ to find the enemy that is going to attack you and then attack them, of course I do not see this as being the case. How would you folks handle that situation, where you want to kill an armed enemy but not a unarmed enemy? Going against the A.I. it will always fire the first chance it gets, so that leaves visually confirming it out. The other thing is that both are taking off from the same airfield so they are coming in from the same direction and the only thing I can use is the fact that the 15/33 are flying faster than the heavies and since I know this(I set up the mission), I just lock onto the faster/closer aircraft and then attack it. Thanks, -KILSEK
