  1. TBH, if ED were to incorporate any other flyables into a new sim, I think it's time for a change of scenery. We've had Russian and American fighters for years now in modern jet combat sims. What about something for the Europeans? Mirage? Jaguar? Tornado? Harrier?
  2. That looks really impressive. Thanks for the link.
  3. RAF junior rank badges (when worn on the sleeve cuff) are made up of half- and quarter-inch stripes. When worn on the shoulder the stripes (although obviously smaller) keep the same relationship to each other size-wise. The original files had the Pilot Officer rank as a half-inch stripe and the Flying Officer as a half-inch stripe with a quarter inch stripe above it. The correct rank badges would be a single quarter-inch stripe for the Pilot Officer and a single half-inch stripe for the Flying Officer. From Flight Lieutenant upwards they got it spot on. Hope that made sense. I can't think of an easier way to explain it. Like I said to B_R_D when I sent them to him, it's a minor thing. But my family has links with the RAF going right back to it's formation in 1918 (my Grandfather was a pilot in WW1 and was on active duty in France when the RFC and RNAS were amalgamated into the RAF), so I'm a bit of an RAF nut and it irritated the hell out of me. If there's anyone else want's them, I'd be more than happy to pass them on.
  4. Thank you guys. It seems that the tray tools are indeed the problem. The Catalyst driver AI seems to be a part of it as well (would this be related to the shaders option Dronas mentioned?) Looks like I did my normal trick of diving in the deep end and overlooking the obvious. Many thanks to everyone whose helped me with this. BTW: Dronas, no need to apologise for your English.......It's a lot better than my Russian! ;)
  5. I've checked all the drivers and DirectX functions etc, but I'll double check them Mutang, thanks. The skin files are (IIRC) the stock files for the third default skin which were recoloured and extra insignia added. I thought it could be the files themselves at first, but after reinstalling them (and then reinstalling LOMAC and FC as well the problem remained. AFAIK I'm the only one in our squad having these problems, which makes me think it's more likely a fault with my PC than with the skin itself. Especially since when the problem occurs the ground textures diappear as well. The strange thing is LOMAC works absolutely 100% fine if I don't use the skin.
  6. Anyone help me out with this. Our squad uses custom skins and I've started getting the following. Offline it's a major irritation, but when it happens while I'm online it'll crash the server for some reason. Mission will start fine, decent FPS. After a while Lock On will hang for a couple of seconds and then some (or all) the textures disappear. At the same time FPS will drop to (literally) 2 or 3. Our custom skins are installed in the TempTextures folder BTW. The fault only occurs when using our squad skin, all the default ones work fine. But it's not the skin files themselves since I've reinstalled them twice (and they've worked fine for quite a while before this started happening so it's not a corrupt download). Here's a couple of screenshots showing the problem System specs: P4 2.4gig CPU 1024MB PC2700 DDR RAM ATI 9800Pro (Omega version of Cat 5.6 drivers...I've tried the 5.7's as well) AC97 On board sound Anyone got any ideas about this?
  7. That's strange. I've tried that before and never was able to get it to work. Only way I've ever been able to record missions as an RAF pilot was by using an edited MEinit file that had the F-15 listed as a flyable for the RAF. I'll have to give it another try. Thanks for the info. EDIT: BTW. I've edited the RAF rank graphics so that they're correct (the original Pilot Officer and Flying Officer rank badges are incorrect). If you want them, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them on to you.
  8. Also remember that if your pilot's nationality doesn't have the plane you are flying in it's order of battle, your mission won't be recorded in the logbook. For example: If you create a British pilot no mission will record in the log book since none of te flyable aircraft are available to the RAF. For the F-15 you'd need either a US or Israeli pilot. For the MiG-29A you'd need either a Russian, German or Ukrainian pilot etc.
  9. This sounds brilliant. Excellent news for the flight sim community! I wonder if I'll be able to afford a PC good enough to run it??
  10. You need to change the timeout settings in the network config file. Go to Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Config\Network folder. In that folder you'll find a file called "Config." Change the settings for gameTimeout and idleTimeout to 600. That should sort out any MP disconnect problems. Can't do anything to speed up the load times though. At mission start there's a lot of info that the game needs to load.
  11. Having DirectX9 installed and having a card that's compatible with it (ie: capable of using all it's functions) are two different things. A new card is definately the best option for you, I'd suggest you consider another 512MB RAM as well. As far as the best card, I'll leave it to others to adice you there. I'm haven't got enough info to hand on those available to give you anything more than a personal opinion. Since I'm not thinking of upgrading at the moment I haven't been keeping up with the more recent developments.
  12. One way to stop the AI landing anywhere it likes is to set up a GAI flight (of whichever coalition you want the base to belong to) at each base. If you don't want the GAI flight to actually engage in combat, set it's start time hours later than the actual mission start. That way. at least when the AI disappears off to the nearest base, it'll at the very least have to head for one allied with you.
  13. Must have been a navalised version!! :D Seriously though, never heard of that before. If it happens again can you get a screenshot? Also, what bases did it taxi between?
  14. Thanks, Paulie. I'll pass the message on.
  15. BGP.....You are a gentleman and a scholar!! Many thanks mate
  16. I found this pic on a website. Apparently it's a MiG-105. Anyone know anything about this one?
  17. I had the same thing. The problem is with the combo button/ wheel on the rear of the throttle that emulates the mouse wheel/ right mouse button. It's sticking. I returned my controller to Saitek and they repaired it for me. Now everything works 100%. But as it is I still use the profiling software. I don't think you can use the shift modes etc without it ...can you?
  18. Haven't run that mission yet, but I wonder if it could be something like the "invisible" C-130's we used to get with LO-MAC 1.0?
  19. One day I'll win the lottery and thenI'll be able to afford a rig like that as well.... I am not jelous...I am not jelous....I am not Jelous....Sorry just ignore me...I'm hoping that if I say it enough it'll become true!!!! ;)
  20. Sorry it's taken me a while to test Han's suggestions. It seems that it was the Ansiotropic Filter that was causing the problem. Turned off AF and the problem's solved. Just thought I'd post the info incase anyone's having the same problem.
  21. You're going to get your wish Game here in the UK (equivalent of EB in the US) has Mig Alley 2 on it's coming soon list. They've got a release date posted of November 4th. Unfortunately there's no other details at present, but I would imagine that the name is still copyrighted, so I can't see it being anything but a sequel. BTW, MBot, you missed my personal choice out of the poll: If it's got wings I love it!!!
  22. I don't know whether a developer or publisher would be best, but I would suggest making an appointment with a solicitor that deals with copyright matters before doing anything. Ideas are very easy to steal, and ownership is difficult to prove after the fact. Please note: This is just a statement of simple fact and not intended in any way as an insult against any company or individual!!!! (Had to add this...after reading it back I realised I was looking at a liabel suit!!)
  23. My pleasure Red,glad I could help.
  24. If it only asks for an activation when you have a profile loaded, then there's something wrong with your profile. I had a similar thing with my X-52 when I first got it. Firstly I found by cancelling the activation screen and restarting FC I was able to get it working....But the profile still didn't work. Eventually I realised that I'd set up the profile badly and had a setting that was constantly sending out keypresses. I changed the profile to correct the problem and the requests for activation stopped. I suspect that the CP software interprets the constant keypresses as a suspect script trying to run, so it kicks in.
