  1. I've been having this high gamma issue since pretty much the beginning. I'm using the latest version of DCS. I can't figure out how to do a screenshot but the problem is intermittent and shows up as soon as I click "fly." It's definitely not a problem with my gamma setting. I usually go with 1.2, but even if I drop it all the way down it's way too bright. By "way," I mean "you're standing at ground zero right with a hydrogen bomb going off a thousand feet above you." The only solution I've found is to quit the mission and refly it. Sometimes that works, sometimes it takes two or three tries for it to work. I've seen the same thing happen now and then with the 3D views of units when configuring weapons loads, etc.
  2. Hi Northstar, Thanks! I'd seen that but I didn't realize what it was or wasn't doing by clicking it. Man, DCS is so complex - it's amazing but it's also pretty daunting. I can see it taking a long, long time to get anywhere near mastering it.
  3. Hello everyone, I want to create triggers that will activate when any kind of weapon is in the zone - any missile, any bomb. What I want to do is activate the trigger whenever a runway is hit with a bomb or missile, but I don't want to create triggers with a gazillion lines. I'm hoping there's an easier way to do this than I know of. I don't fully understand all the trigger options, although I've been reading through the documentation. I considered LUA scripting but if you knew me you'd know I should stay away from that - I could very well start a real war. So does anyone have a direction they can point me? I'm happy to do the work as long as I can get a general idea of what options to use. Thanks, Dave
  4. DISREGARD I was messing around randomly trying things and I noticed that the year was set to 2016. Then I remembered that SCUDS were a big deal during the Gulf War in 1991, so I switched the year and that gave me the option to add them. I can delete this post if the admins want. ### Hello everyone, I just installed Combined Arms into the latest version of DCS. I see existing available Combined Arms missions but I don't see any way to add units (a SCUD for instance) to my own missions. I watched a video and it seems there should be a "missiles" category in the ground units section, but I don't have that. I haven't tried any other kinds of units. Am I misunderstanding what Combined Arms is supposed to allow me to do? Is it just that I haven't found the right way to do it? Am I experiencing a bug? I did a search here in the forums and ended up with a thousand returns spread over 40 pages, so if the answer is in there and I didn't spot it I apologize. Can anyone help? Dave
  5. First, let me start out by saying I suck at carrier landings. Despite that, I've been getting a little better - I only crash and burn about 50% of the time and I abort about 40% of the time. I bolter about 9% of the time, so that leaves a 1% success rate. Only about 1% of those successful traps are anywhere near being within acceptable parameters. I've cost the imaginary taxpayers a LOT of money. Okay, so an odd behavior I've noticed over the last couple of days is this - when I get to within a quarter mile or so of the ship, maybe even a little closer, the Hornet always pitches down, apparently in an effort to get me into the hangar deck the hard way - through the fantail. It certainly can't be my joystick - not the best in the world - since it has no idea where I am. I seriously doubt it's me that's causing it despite my lack of skill - the behavior is too consistent, and my flying the airplane is very inconsistent. It seems like it can only be blamed on a software bug. Aircraft configuration of any kind wouldn't suddenly cause it to pitch down because of proximity to the ship. I can't imagine it would be the "burble" coming off the island; for one thing it's only started happening recently. So is this a real problem or has the quality of my illicit drugs gone up? (And no, I don't really use drugs, but now might be a good time to start.) Dave Slo-Mo
  6. A couple of somewhat related things. I know a former E-2 pilot who said that for carrier qualifications they'd fly with just the pilot and copilot and with a fairly light fuel load. They'd trap then taxi back to the ramp and do a deck run to get airborne again. Easier than a cat shot. I also know a former Phantom pilot and he one time had a mission to do a zoom climb, just a test of some sort. He and his RIO were outfitted with pressure suits. I can't remember how hight they managed to get. Anyway, he said that on the way down the outer portion of one wing broke off, but with enough roll trim they were able to fly without too much problem.
  7. Hi rob10, I did some test flying (Right Stuff, here I come) and I think I figured out what the problem might be. The joystick I'm using has a tension adjustment and I think over time it loosened to its minimum tension, causing "micro" inputs. I re-tightened it to the maximum and the Hornet rides much more like a Cadillac than before. I guess the loss of tension was gradual and I just didn't notice it. So thanks rob10 and CBStu! Dave
  8. Hi CBStu, I've seen that behavior with BALT and if it's beyond about three degrees of pitch up or down BALT will click off. This problem I'm having seems to happen regardless of it being on autopilot or not. It's almost like the airplane starts to stall out and then corrects the pitch to keep that from happening, but it's happening at airspeeds high enough and at pitches that are all reasonable. Of course stalling out would happen with pitching up, but I see it happening when the airplane is slightly pitched down too. Flaps are on auto, gear is up, so I don't know what the deal is. Weird.
  9. I've been experiencing some pitch instability with the Hornet, and it seems like it might be worse at higher altitudes like 15k and higher. It'll pitch up a little, then a few seconds later it'll pitch down some. Is it something I've set wrong in the aircraft configuration? A problem with my joystick? Thanks, Dave
  10. "it is hard to understand what was your point on this paragraph." You need to work on your grammar.
